  1. Triple the lock-in on Full Review of the iPhone 2 On Launch Day · · Score: 1

Don't get me wrong I think the iPhone is a great device and very well thought out but the iTunes + Service + On-line + Apple Services lock-in makes me very nervous. You just need one level as we are seeing now to fail and you are stuck with an very expensive brick. When I look at the iPhone the image of a very well made and gold (gilded) cage comes to mind and I really don't want to step into it.

I think both licenses are great and I use them differently depending on what my commitment is to the code over time. If I have a long term interest in a project were I am happy to maintain it for a while I go with either LGPL or GPL. If I have no interest in the code (one of hacks etc) I just put it under the BSD license and let it float away into the ether that is the internet.

I think a Nokia mobile phone and a Nokia N800 network tables (N800 is pretty cheap right now) are a better option. You can tether the N800 to your mobile phone (basically use your mobile as a modem). You will get more functionality than the freerunner and the N800 runs Linux (bigger screen) and is very hackable and stable right now.

I switched over to Linux around SuSE 6.0 days and to be honest I have never looked back. I now use Linux 100% at work and at home after doing a LPIC-101/102 course at my local college. This leads me into another funny story were I now have a whole branch of the company were I work at now running on Linux. The company has a Windows/OSX/Unix technical support contractor and because Linux has been so rock solid for us he didn't even know we had a branch here. This was simply because no one has ever rang him for help (and yes I have been away for weeks at a time).

Im pro-human right just as much as anyone else who enjoys calling their politician dicks but lets inject some reality here. For those Americans talking about a police state go talk to anyone who is visiting the USA and you will see all the weird and bizarre hoops you now have to jump through that makes a visit to China look like a visit to your local coffee shop. Those who come from Europe, ID cards big brother camera all over the place and knee-jerk politicians bringing in "we have the right to anal probe you if you don't return a book on time" laws. Yes China has issues but western nations should be holding their heads in shame as they let their leaders destroy all the freedoms won by those who have risked lives and limbs over the years because it "doesnt effect me".

Regarding the original story, my biggest worry is how much of the information given to gain tickets will be sold by corrupt officials to countries who think freedom means you are free to scream while getting tortured.
