    I don't know about your CB radio experiences, but in my area, there were often "CB wars", where people would do nothing but try to squash others conversations, shove pins through the coax cable leading to the antennnas, etc. It was absolute chaos... and that was with about 90 people in a city of 65000.

    First, they volunteered.

    Second, physics is a cold, harsh mistress. There's no "technology" to develop here - spaceflight is dangerous and chaotic, and the people that do it go into it with their eyes wide open.

    It's a pity that she bought into that. Sure, it's interesting to have those gadgets, but modern machines are just the crappiest, weakest construction ever. Sneeze on them, and they fall apart.

    My wife and I have a 1947 Singer. STEEL, baby, 100%. Doesn't reverse, doesn't buttonhole, uses a legbar for control instead of a foot pedal.

    That sucker stitches through leather WITHOUT a leather needle. My wife made a 32 foot long x 17 foot high x 13 foot wide "French Bell" pavillion on it, and it just needed an oiling and lint cleanup.

    Now that's quality!

    Don't make me bring out the Terrible Two (AO & WWIIO).

    Man, you ain't kidding - although you should make it the Terrible Three now, and add Planetside, from what I'm understanding. Massive amounts of defective CDs resulting in 20-30% being unable to install, for starters.

    The amazing thing is that WWIIO is still kicking... well, not amazing to me, because I'm still loving it and playing every night (bastards in Signy last night, I will have my revenge, you will be HE-111 carpet bombed!) but it's still quite surprising to many who figured it would be gone within six months.

    Is it huge? No, but it was always meant to be a niche market game for 'grognards'. Survival is enough. :)
