I know this thread is getting old but... I find useful information here on Slashdot. I often think of the scope of knowledge here. How many subjects, theories, hypothesis, practices... It just goes on and on. But I only treat Slashdot as a resource, because unfortunately, most people on slashdot ARE assholes. I'm not pointing fingers because I can't. I don't want to. In the real world, just as here, people don't want their 'lines of thought' tinkered with. And while there might be an implication of broad tolerance, there is not. How many people on here are still racist! It's hilarious! Well, as I spin off into incoherence, just a well thought notion before I end this, 'unplugging ego's should be everyone's first priority.'
Completely agree! Not only that, but look how people are even trained to just accept the Government's will? You can't even ask questions any more. I went to the bank to get a checking account they wanted all kinds of extra information to which I complained. She said, "Grow up, everyone should put up with a little more effort for the extra security." What security? I didn't ask for it, I don't need it. I'm not scared of dark skinned foreigners. I'm not scared of bombs in planes. Hah, OMG I gottuh stop now. I am scared of moderators giving piss poor scores for entirely accurate contexts, though. I liken slashdot to that scene in 'the guide' of the thought swatters.
Regardless of what their agenda is, the exposure of ANY truth is beneficial. The world today, and I mean the whole world.. needs transparency. The 'Information Age' may be a seductive term that implies openness but face it information is manipulated much more on the net. We need to get rid of the controllers. They have only their own best interests at heart.

the 12f629 has a bigger brother. 12f675. For 8 pins these things are awesome little computers, and can do quite a bit. It's funny how much you can get out of one when even Microchip's website says you should 'go bigger'.
I love Microchip products, although I want to try some other vendors. The thing is, Microchip products are so well documented, I actually taught myself to program microcontrollers just reading their documentation. Ah, I could go on and on. I have about 30 of em sitting up stairs for my next engine computer... Ah..
Very, very negative people. And your peers are constantly jibing you. Any differences in opinion are made fun of. People at work are 50 50. Some think your really smart, and understand business and tech would be nowhere without computers. But then there are the others, who think your like the CEO, and getting paid for nothing (future IT professionals).
But the worst thing, as an IT pro, is that you mostly work with Windows, and that's always a bummer.
of course the arguments could go on forever, but while most people whine about RIAA and the government tapping lines and such, it might be thoughtful to remember that making a connection with another computer and having someone look at its content is invasive, and therefore none of your business. I think it would be more accurate to say, someone wanting privacy running around clothed and having someone rip their clothes off. Now that sounds better. And to make it return to the context of this thread; Running around clothed but on a street full of blood thirsty rapists. Now, that sounds more like the real internet.
Unless your planning on accessing your data from one location only, I'd suggest you forget it. I've been to different locations around the country and found that some bigger hotel chains as well as some so called 'hot spots' will actually firewall FTP. It's not unreasonable to believe ISP's are doing the same thing. I cannot access my ftp services from where I work. So, I'd be thinking of some other setup.
How many of you were waiting for the release? There will be many more people happy to still be secure in knowing they can use GL the way they have been.
