No, the cool thing is to support something that makes sense.
iTunes is close to making a lot of sense. They let you purchase one song at a time, or an entire albumn, your choice. And you can download it. And you can burn the mp3s/AAC files to a cd if you want.. LEGALLY!
Many of us aren't against the RIAA nearly as much as we're against paying $17 for a cd that has been on the market for over 10 years, and only has 12 songs on it. On iTunes I can download that same albumn for under $12. Or I can pick and choose the songs from it for less than that.
Com'on now.. this isn't about 'Down with the man', this is about getting something for fair market value. And as 14 million dollars (a tad less actually, because its $0.99 per track) goes to show, MANY people think $0.99 a track is fair market value.
MS never released that product to consumers.. I know quite a few people would love to have seen that product. Its rumored that it contained multi-tasking.
I love nostalga. People forget details and make some up as well.
Just for the sake of filling in the gaps of your statements, let me offer this:
As an Atlantan that recently had IFITL, I never got these 3Mb or 4Mb downloads that you are talking about. Yes, the IFITL was consistantly faster than normal copper ADSL, but not twice the speed.
IFITL uses PPPoE, which means any network card and PPPoE client can connect to the network. Very nice. Now that I'm back in a house with copper lines, I miss my IFITL.
If any Bellsouth customers want to learn more check on google for "bellsouth dsl" or search for "bellsouth IFITL". Lots of good information available.
Don't all these "overflow checkers" kill the speed of C(++) apps? I'd like to see some comparisons between the two distributions.
Speed and security are two completely different objectives. If you are going to use something like Trusted Debian, its because the security is much more important than the speed. I mean, what good does speed do you after your web site is hacked?
Some of us are doing more than complaining and giving up. Personally, I haven't written any letters, but I have been voting with my dollar over the last two years. You read that correctly, I haven't bought a new CD in over two years. Its been over a year since I've purchased a used CD.
The quiet fight might not be the quickest, but it is the most effective in the long run.
Read this article on Monte Cook's website. You may want to search for the word "disadvantage".
Negative effects DO NOT always lower the caster level, nor the value of the item. Keep in mind that NWN tries (I don't own the game, so I know that it tries.. I just don't know how accurate it is) to be compatable with Wizards of the Coasts' 3rd Edition D&D rules.
I'm sure Blizzard will be quick to point out that WarCraft II didn't have battle.net support until WELL after Starcraft came out (recall the WCII B.net edition?).
But as an avid purchaser of Blizzard games, I'm sure you already knew that.
Would the Feinstein you speak of be the same Diane Feinstein that Jello Biafra speaks of in his spoken word tracks?

IIRC from the Distributed.net talk, the DNS breakage happened well over a year ago (perhaps more years than that). Its not a recent thing.
I would imagine Duncan dealt with it at d.net (before he left), and possibly again with his own project COSM.
My two cents, feel free to correct me.
So tell me, how much money do you make when someone buys a book with your referal number?
That is just about the wrongest thing I have ever seen in 5 years of reading slashdot, and that is SAYING SOMETHING!!!
You've never accidentally clicked on a goatse.cx link in those last 5 years?! Luck bastard.
You suck. You suck purely because you didn't tell me where I can order one of those t-shirts at! :-)
Do tell. Do tell!
You pirated MS-DOS 4? Dang.

Feel free to do some research before crying foul play.
Source code is provided in that 18 meg zip file.
They ALSO will send you a CDROM with the source for a small fee.

Your answer lies in the faq.
We do. Its called QuakeCon. Its held every year in Texas, and hosted by id software.

Gaim has MSN support. I'm able to chat just fine between myself and a friend (running Windows XP).

And that, everyone, is a good troll. Only problem is that the other poster was too smart to fall for it :-)
There is always next time.
Ya'know, I almost fell for this troll.
Instead, I'll say this : Your analogies are utter crap.
Just to nitpick..
