You stupid tit.... French unemployment is absolutly irrelevant! And what the hell do you mean by centralised funding? As far as I know, all funding for space flight comes from a centralised source.... a bank.
Come on dude... don't let your side down with crap posts.
And therein lies the problem with a Country that fails to fulfill its obligations to World politics, serisouly thinks it is more important than every other Country and currently has an administration that is trying to disengage with everyone else.
Regardless, if the UN decide to maintain its own root DNS servers, the net will fragment and ultimately the largest fragment will win. I think it likely that the majority of the World will use the UN servers - particularly the EU & China, which fragment do you think will win?
The EU isn't trying to standardise immigration, currency and language within its borders. Who told you that?
The computer industry isn't anchored in the US, who told you that? Come on mate, read a bit, get out more and understand what it is you are talking about.
Er.... You built what became the internet. And the only reason you now pay for the relevant servers is because you will not relinquish control to the UN! So to say you pay for it and use that as a reason for keeping it is insane. The UN will have control one day, perhaps after we're gone, but or course it will happen
Your sentiment is probably honourable but your post is odd
The US didn't hang the Taiwanese out to dry - why would you think that the US has any effect on Chinese politics?
All Countries should be trading with China if they wish to be active memebers of a global economy. I happen to think that unfettered capitalism is wrong, but that is what the World is now stuck with - at least for a few decades. I assume you wish to disengage with China as they have a dubious civil rights record. So to do many trading partners of the US - Israel, the UK (where I live), Russia, India, many African states - the list is vast. I am of the opinion that the best way to change a Country (if it is our right to change it anyway) is to engage with them. Shutting out a Country economically will simply exacerbate poverty and entrench bad government.
Communism does not equal 'not free'. Again I have to make assumtions - but I assume you call China 'not free' for its governments insistence on controlling most of the media? If so - that is not linked to Communism. The US and UK governments control the media, to the point of shutting down media outlets in some cases. And I don't think you wish to imply that the US is a country with any communist ideals at all.
Fact is, Chinese politics is not the concern of any of us unless we are Chinese or UN diplomats.
Communism and Socialism are different and related only by the fact they are ideologies. So which is it.... communist or socialist?
And why do you assume that socialists think profit is bad?
Your a daft prick! Clearly, gas guzzling consumerism DOES have a lot to do with natural disasters. Accelerate the rate of climate change (for better or worse) and World weather becomes more volatile. Increased volatility == reduced predictablity, reduced predictability = more chance people will die (wait a minute - wasn't this predicted, people warned to leave, and they didn't? thats US common sense for ya!)
BTW, are you one of those big fat yanks from Southern America who only fuck women in the ass cos it reminds you of boys?
Is this tech news? I don't think so. Besides, giving a forum to most of the people that have commented on here doesn't seem like a good idea! I mean... Aid = Communist!! What planet are you on? Communism = a bad word? Eh? Does the average American know what communism is? Are they able to distiguish between the principles of communism, the principles of socialism and the practice of either? And as for all the bullshit US politics - it has sod all to do with politics left or right (not that there is a significant distinction between the two in US politics right now). It seems like some of the population of the US is drifting further and further away from sense! Come on.... leave politics out of
Come on dude, cheer up. IT's not a competition (or at least it shouldn't be). Why can't we all be pleased that HUMANKIND is developing new technology? Does it matter which Country the engineers happen to be in?
Don't believe everything you read in the tabloids.
I serve with the British Army, and when it comes down to it, we get what we need, and what we do get is damn good.
Add my vote for Python. It's free, full featured enough to teach all but the most complex aspects of programming, it has a syntax that everyone - even non programmers - can understand, it is cross platform, has good documentation, did I mention it's free?
Its ideal
Did you have to publish this?
Given that the average member of the slashdot crowd appears to have very little knowledge of most things beyond the borders of the US, let alone Russia - this seems like an invitation to talk bulls**t. Like the mafia stuff - I mean, come on... who here has a clue about the links between Russian mafia and spamming. Its all guesswork.
There's nothing wrong with guesswork - but most of the clowns here pass it off as fact.
AND.... It is nothing special to live in a country where Non-profit organisations and volunteers are 'Allowed' to exist. For God's sake man.... most of the World is like that. The US is not the only free Country in the World. It isn't even one of the 'most free'
Give it a bloody rest. Patriotism does not preclude disliking what your Country is doing. It doesn't mean 'finding the good in every situation, regarldess of how stupid the situation is'. This has ABSOLUTLY NOTHING TO DO WITH PATRIOTISM.
Do you know how 'AMERICAN PATRIOTISM' comes accross in the wider world. Just give it a rest.
Are you mad!!?? I wouldn't dare let private enterprise anywhere near scientifically important space travel. Let them take up rich patrons if they wish - its their choice, but seriously - how often does the introduction of 'market forces' actually improve services?
Sure, business is the right way to produce most goods - there can be true competition in that, and it often doesn't matter when that competition inevitably leads to a reduction in product quality for the sake of profit, but services (in this case, space flight) are different.
There won't be true competition - meaning they can charge what they like, and they will always have to make a profit, which only comes from cost saving measures.
Er...What?
One is an expatriot when NOT in ones Country of birth. When I lived in Tehran I was a member of the expatriot community - I lived in an area populated prdominantly with expatriots from around the World.
Now I no longer live in Iran - I'm back in my Country of birth - I'm not an expatriot. I'm a FORMER EXPATRIOT
Sheesh... you guys really don't know the English language!
Genetically engineered soliders? I think not.

You silly prick. Mililtary might has nothing to do with it. What do you want to do - invade Europe? Not a chance.

I'm confused.... politics aside, is he implying that if your computer uses Windows then you DO have the right to listen to a CD that you purchased?
Communism and Socialism are different and related only by the fact they are ideologies. So which is it.... communist or socialist? And why do you assume that socialists think profit is bad?
Surely you mean you COULDN'T care less?
Your a daft prick!

How do you know that this is just a 'new, slightly improved' concorde? Do you work on it or something?
So...? The rest of the World is 'ready for this'. Sheesh
Don't believe everything you read in the tabloids. I serve with the British Army, and when it comes down to it, we get what we need, and what we do get is damn good.
How about her kids communicate with her? Hey - they could even do it in person - a wild idea I know. Sheesh

Thats a ridiculous example - how much do you think commercial shipping costs?
And where do you think the design for commercial shipping came from?
And how much do you think commercial shipping comapnies would charge the government?
Didn't your mum ever tell you to think before you open your mouth?

What a load of bollocks. I assume you're out of work at the moment... right?
