Apple LOVE closed systems, DRM and total control, the only thing that surprises me is the reaction. The lock down is SOP for Apple you know this when you buy into it (same as microsoft, in truth apple are much worse but MS is more visable).
I think that at the very least Apple need to issues solid guidelines for what they will accept and what they wont. Its bang out of order to let devs spend the time and effort creating an app that they have no idea will be accepted. Id prefer the appstore be a bit more open but it aint goin to happen (this is Apple, see above). at the very least you should know ur app is going to be accepted BEFORE you start to write it, thats the real problem here.
My mum was telling me about something like this that happened in ireland a few months (maybe a year) ago. A recycling company in the south was literally driving the crap to the north and dumping it in landfills.
While i agree its not what they want i never visit wiki for factual information, i like the fact i can find out how some obscure tv series ended after the network kills it halfway thru its run etc etc
I ran Vista for quite a while and to be honest apart from a few initial headaches i havent had a single issue either. Also ive put my earlier probs with it down to piss poor drivers at launch. I do find it slower than XP but not massivly and on the flip side there a few things it does nicely that XP really doesent like.
My major issue at the moment is with XP. After reinstalling XP (for a comparision) im having nothing but trouble with video and audio. Now im not saying vista has buggered my system but i do find it amusing that my problems with XP all appeared after Vista was removed. (oh and i have no video or audio issues while running vista.)
Oh and on a total tangent does anyone have any idea why i have to do a repair to the wireless connection every single time XP or Vista boots?
I remember seeing the technical demos and concept animations and thinking that looks cool but they'll never be able to make a playable game out of it. Downloaded the demo and i was right it doesent really work, however with that said its MUCH MUCH better than i was expecting. Its far from perfect and has many irritations (poor targeting, immobile while forcing etc etc) but its a good laugh and i will probably pick it up when it comes out.
(I actually like the lightsaber combos more than the force use but it is highly amusing seeing stormtroopers grab on to each other and anything else they can as they go flying through the air).
This is purly off hand, but i drive a 2001 Golf but one of my friends has a prius. We have both come to the conclusion that a hybrid is only sensible if you live/drive in town. I live out in leafy surrey and given the runs we do i get the same MPG as he does (44MPG ish). Now obviously this is different in town where my fuel economy goes down and his goes up. I guess the point im desperatly fumbling to make is that these hybrids can be worse than a normal ICE if they are (i wont say missold) sold to people that will see no benifit from switching.
Its not just the DRM IMHO, yesterday i went out at lunchtime with the sole purpose of buying a pc game. I spent nearly an hour in between 3 game shops before leaving empty handed. There was virtually no difference between the console shelf and the pc shelf. There are very very few real pc games made these days (outside of RTS) their either console ports or were developed alongside the console version (which is the primary version and as such dictates the games design).
You say this the result of a lack of community, its just a shame that the last 2 british goverments all but declared war on the concept. Theres a reason most people dont care, they have been conditioned not to. Violent crime is rising BUT YOUR the real criminal, double park to deliver first aid and you get a ticket, have a word with some unruly kids and you'll find police on your door within mins. Its automated law enforcement so i for one am not surprised when people start ignoring laws (and unwritten rules) unless they are in an automated enforcement area. (the law in this country has become like boo from super mario, if its not observed then it doesent exsist).
oh and for your example of flytipping, yes i agree its a foul act but we never had a problem in my area till the council closed all the local dumps (and if they left open they were suddenly for commercial waste only)
Is that in this industry at least (im sure it goes on elsewhere) regards a Micropayment as a 'MULTIpayment', theres nothing micro about 6-8 quid sterling and when you've done that a couple of times it really adds up.
For a Second there i read that as creating gold farmer bounties. Ruthlessly slay all gold farmers you come across and Square-Enix will reward you with loot hehe hell i might have signed up.

Offtopic but here in the uk ive started to see more and more signs in shops to the effect of "all major cards accepted.....We dont not accept American Express".
i live in the suburbs and we have a big 24 hour tesco 5 mins down the road, it has always baffled me as apart from the saturday madness theres never anyone in there (well relativly speaking). When GTA4 came out i wasent going to bother with it right away, that is till i went down to tesco at midnight to get some milk and other things. They had loads of copies of GTA and including myself there were 2 people so i thought why not, less than 10 mins later i was at home playing rockstars latest and greatest. It wasent till the next day when some of my friends who had camped out at various game stores came round to mine. They were all amazed that i had a copy and were asking me who i knew in what shop, when i told em how i got it they were sick (the local Game got 7 copies in for the midnight launch). After that i started paying attention to my games purchases and came to a realisation: the last place you want to buy new games from are shops that specialise in games.
When i was younger these shops were a lifeline, today i find them not only useless but pretty obstructive (no pre-order, no you didnt bundle, no your not signed up to our bullshit club etc etc). I have to wonder why they have chosen to alienate themselves like this, its almost as if they want to be irrelevant.
but how many of us cried when Aeris (/Aerith) was killed half-way through the story
I wouldent go that far but i couldent belive they actually killed a main characther half way through, and the shock stayed with me for a while. its just a pity we dont see more of that type of storytelling rather than the 1 man army everyone lives happily ever after crap that makes up most games.
I couldent agree with you more, i also find you lose the badass element too. For example the earlier Final Fantasys had areas that as you said you would be hammered (even if you were a decent level), i used to get my party all the way to lv999 before end game purely so i could be the destroyer. I put the effort in to level up and find trinkets and such but with auto scaling theres no point getting that strong.
Ahh many a good battle with kefka, in fact if you'll excuse me i may have to dig out my snes.
Last night i was watching Terminator 2 on tv and started to think about how horrific T3 was. In fact i remembered that the only line in the whole T3 that had my intrest is when Arnie tells Kate that he terminates John Connor (helped by the emotional attachment John has to the unit). It got me thinking though id love to see a terminator 4 with that line as its basis, Done in cgi but not the kiddie style that has become standard, give it a a darker more unique style and the big one....make it for ADULTS. Now i know there is no way in hell any studio would green light that idea but i for one would love to see it. Being CGI you could use Arnies likeness reasonable easily and better than that you could really go to town with the Terminators, Hunter killers etc. We got glimpses of that future war in the 3 films (mainly T2) but an animated/CGI representation of that could be awesome.
I dont download anymore. years ago i used to do it coz i could, recently i have realised that it has become like stamp collecting for me. Hard drives full of warez that have never even been looked at, it had become a habit nothing more. Just something else i'd do when i sat at a computer. The day i stop was when i realised 80% of my 'collection' had never been looked at.
Ive had to argue this but im pretty sure you can film/photograph anything you like "from" public property/private property with permission. I have a letter of apology from my local police station after they tried to hassle me over taking pictures of the police station a few years ago. The meat of the google situation will be WHERE the shots were taken from, not that they were taken.

Id kill for a racing game with proper depth perception

nope its petrol it averages 42-44MPG (uk). its a run o the mill 1.6 golf MK4. I live out in the burbs so not much start and stop.
NO we use the SAME FUEL and he does better than me in town, everywhere else my golf outdoes the prius
The only other possible alternative is that Sir Molyneux has gained just a shred of humility.
Now thats a real fable

Karmic Change even

Have no idea why but its definatly a trend.
too true, also i would assume google uses a wee bit more power than most companys
I couldent care less about flash and java, more media support would have been nice.
(I have an iphone, what it does well it does very well, what it does badly it does very badly. Typical Apple and typical mobile in my opinion).
Oh and the ads ARE misleading.

In the last 5 to 10 years the conversion has usually gone something like:
$1 = £1 = 1 Euro
Nice and simple just the way they like it.
