For as much as I like the concept of "Enterprise" I think the wrong people are producing it. The stories aren't as strong as "Deep Space Nine" and there is no much of the jiggle factor (T'Pol needs to wear less revealing costumes) like "Voyager" had.

I have to refute one of SCO's claims (see "5 Reasons..."). I talked to the tech at Safeco Field, and they are no longer using Micros 8700 on SCO OpenServer 5. They have switch to Micros 9700 on Windows 2000.
The blame for this can be shared between SCO and Micros: SCO never made a better offer to Micros for staying with them, and Micros fell to the dark side (went to Microsoft) through some internal mechanations...

Is the Earth getting warmer? Yes. Is it because of pollution? Most likely not. Reason: around 635 (give or take a hundred years) Krakatoa exploded and put a significant amount of dust and gas into the atmosphere causing what is known as the "Little Ice Age." (I also suspect the erruption of Mammoth in California c. 1100 also added to this affect). That little ice age is coming to an end and the results are warmer world tempatures.

I had asked the boss where the source code would go for the software, and he said that it would be sold off (by whom I don't know), along with all the other assets, so the backers were assured to get back some of their investment.
I worked for another company that was on the receiving end of such assets liquidation sales or auctions (some being done by the IRS) and would guess that source code could be tranfered from one company to another that way.
1) Buy shiney new system from Dell (or whom ever) 2) Transfer all software licenses to SCO (you will be using Linux and other freeware after all...) 3) Let SCO fight Microsoft for refund

This means that the people who own the telemarketing firms cannot be barred from trying to make a profit; however it does not guarantee they will make a profit. There is a difference.

If they wanted to prove a point, they would use actors who are really starving, but then they are getting paid to be in the commerecials so they can eat... Or, the studios could stop taking in so much money for themselves and pay more to the extras and bit players.
I would suggest a Federal version of the GPL that keeps the code available to the public but keeps big corporations from selling it back to the Fed. And add a clause for classified material so it could be used freely by anyone with the appropriate security clearence. Add another clause to make the code (that which does not require a security clearence) available to our allies (UK, Germany, Japan, etc) at a discount to protect their taxpayers...
It could be called the Federal GNU Public License (FGPL).
I've been reading many of the comments posted here, and most of what I see are people complaining about what StarOffice/OpenOffice lacks, and how bad this or that is. I just have one question: how long did it take Microsoft to get MS Office to the point where it is now? With most OSS projects, the developers are playing catch-up and getting close to the level of the competition in less time than the competition.
Oh yes, and just to make this post on topic: I intend to buy this book because I want a reference on StarOffice/OpenOffice. I've been looking for a reference on OpenOffice and didn't know that it was a free version of StarOffice...
