I wanna answer that with "because they're lazy"... but I don't even think that's the actual reason. Maybe a better answer is "because they're hermits"... because that's the only way you could not have fixed a problem for over 90 days...
I'd have to agree, my perfect PHP book would be one where they just dumped all the PHP documentation into it... and magically let me search it like I can on the website with user comments: PHP Manual
this is changing dramatically with companies like ShoPro grabbing at one of the most popular animes in Japan, Naruto.
B) Fansubs are killing the business
Fansubs IMO help companies pick and choose which animes they want to bring here. You'd be surprised how many people stop fansubbing anime once it becomes licenced. Fansubbers don't get paid to do what they do, they do it so they can show their appreciation for anime they enjoy and share it with others. Once anime comes over here, they've done their job.
C) Not that many people in the US are actually interested in watching movies where the women are portrayed as children with blue hair, guys are always "cool" (in a Japanese-thinking sort of way), everyone's eyes go huge and bug out, saliva is everywhere, all the characters overreact, all monsters have tentacles, and the story lines are shrouded in inexplicable nonsense/lack of backstory?
Check out AnimeNFO for anime that isn't so stereotypical of what you just described. You'd be surprised what you could find there, and the high quality (both animation and storyline) of anime that exists.
Of the 517 games for gamecube, 38 are rated mature and none are rated adult only. Most of the games (not including the 38 that Resident Evil 4 belongs to) are "immature" and fun. So 7% of their games are bloody and more adult-like. But a vast majority of their games are still geared towards children, and those were the ones I was referring to. Sorry if I wasn't clear earlier:).
that's just for the staff costs... now take out their paper expenses, mail, telephone services, and all the other office stuff that comes with it. I've heard that paper costs an arm and a leg in some places, so I wouldn't put it past these people. Some of the top people probably do get paid a lot, but a majority probably wouldn't make more than the average person after all the expenses of running the place.
And here I was thinking that by 2055 when I'm old, I could transfer my brain to a computer continue living as a computer. I guess that'll never happen now, and I'm going to "die" like everyone else. I guess I'll go spend all my savings now:).
It's a shame that so many people think that Nintendo games are too "immature". Ie. they have little gore.
I also believe it's a shame that people correlate "gore" and "fun". I enjoy playing Nintendo games the most because I think they are the most fun to play while there is almost no blood.
They could not use keyboards if they decided to implement headsets for talking... but for a MMOG, that may be a real pain, and even more annoying depending on who is playing the games with you.
Smart for managing to convince those not in the field that it's not at all obvious. Can you imagine how many of these patents would be thrown out if there was ONE guy in the field who approved these things? In any case they're smart for being able to exploit something that seems obvious to us. I guess this is why they're businessmen and we're developers/programmers.
Sorry, I should have been more clear. Think Final Fantasy 2 (2 is the American equivalent of Final Fantasy 4 in Japan) and beyond which I think were pretty good. If not that, compare Chrono Trigger which I still think is one of the best games I've ever played. It's not always true, but there are a lot of old gems from older consoles which you just can't forget. I even think Final Fantasy 1 was pretty good for it's time... it was what practically started this entire big RPG craze.
It may seem stupid from a programmer's point of view. This is technology that several people currently use, and it's someone a half-decent programmer can easily implement.
However, look at it from Amazon's point of view. They're trying to make their business as unique as possible, and if it takes a few of these patents for them to keep their edge over their competitors, why not?
A lot of school's don't teach this side of technology to their students. Sure we learn how to implement ideas, but rarely do we realize that something we've developed can be patented and protected. I'm not defending them or anything, but just giving their point of view. They're smart for doing it, but it's damn annoying that we have to put up with it.
That is true, or they play older games they never got to play as children when they were the most innocent/carefree. As soon as I got the chance, I got a SNES to play all the games I never got to as a kid. I wasted lots of hours catching up, but it was worth it.
Most people I know think the same way. Look at all the newage games compared to the old ones. Compare a new Final Fantasy, for example, to an old one. I think this is why the emulation scene is still going strong, while these next generation consoles are scrambling to come out with the best graphic games. I just believe that the older games had to work a lot to prove their worth with story, while the new ones (not all, but most) can do it with flashy graphics.

... just give me Internet... while moving... can't stand no Internet while... driving car... backwards down... one-way road
Needs to be finished with "... BAM!!!"

There's no such thing as "the force", but I'm still a firm believer in gravity as "a force"... does that count?

Of course it's not reasonable... but that's how the system works.
