  1. Answer is in the post if you look carefully. on OS Independent Games? · · Score: 3, Insightful

You answer it yourself in the post.

Basically, you mention only one reason why bootable CD games are a good thing; because it means "no Microsoft or Direct X".

Firstly, that's so not a comercial reason to do anything.

Secondly, look at Quake 3 for an example of how you can easily make a game that doesn't care about Microsoft (OpenGL, a Linux and a Mac client) without all the pain of making a console boot disk.

And of course it all comes back to the answer to the core quesiton of "why run linux on anything", which , apart from "becaus eoit is cool" is also" because you can then relatively easily port mountains of existing FOSS onto your device.

I myself find Palm + Palm Keyboard an excellent combination, although possibly you might want a larger screen if you were using it all the time, hence my suggestion of the Psions.

Yes, another good strategy - if you have both tanks and plenty of snipers in the hills overlooking their base it's hard for them to get back.

When putting 4 people on a Manta (!) don't forget that the tanks are very vulnerable if they don't have both crew.

What else...another task for the raptor is getting the redeemer. Also don't forget the HB and Manta above the middle node - a good trick with these is to approach teh enemy base from the side and drive up to the ramparts overlooking their reactor - half the time the enemy don't realise you are there and even when they do you're hard to flush out.

No, I mean humans. Lots of people don't grasp the main tactic you should use on startup:

One person takes the Raptor and harasses the enemy as they try to cap their nodes.

One person takes the Manta to node#1 and caps it, then moves to node #3 and waits for the tank.

Three people take the Hellbender to node #2 and cap it. Two switch to the tank and procede to node #3. The other either takes the HB back to node #2 or takes the node 3 manta to the oppositions node 3 in the hope that it is undefended and that they can take it.

Anyone else moves out on foot to the other nodes to try and pick up some other transport.
