This Digg vs Slashdot imaginary fight is just silly. Do people go to the book store or the magazine stand and complain that the same topics are represented more than once? Enjoy the fact that you have multiple outlets for information that provide diverse sources for opinions instead of just having a single information clearing house. Plus the competition will keep Slashdot and Digg evolving and competitive.

And right on schedule the litany of comments citing freedoms and accomplishments of the past while ignoring the erosion of freedoms and lack of prosperity of the present. The world sees that the USA is becoming a corrupt and unpredictable monopolistic elitist bully and they don't want to just lay back and be rolled over. When the economy US collapses from over dependence on foreign everything and corruption and it becomes too expensive to run those DNS servers that everyone depends on how can you fault the UN countries from trying to have a little insurance?

Most people see the world through very clouded human experience filters that they just can't be shaken from where everything is good vs bad, pretty vs ugly, us vs them etc. Some people just are not capable of grey area and uncertainty. We don't even understand ourselves from a biological or spiritual perspective but somehow we KNOW that there is no life other than what we consider life to be. We expect to effectively communicate with aliens when we can not even communicate with dolphins, monkies or dogs even though they can readily communicate with one another. We have much to learn.

Employers seem to only consider people who can do nearly everything immediately. Skills learned in the IT field are like fruit in a grocery store. You need to keep them fresh on a daily basis and the slightest blemish is a deal breaker. In other fields you can reasonably perfect your craft but IT is all about reinvention and retooling. If you slow down even for a minute your certs, languages and paradigms are obsolete so really this article isn't suprising to find that those old operating systems and machines are relegated to the old junk bin. I woudln't waste my time learning main frame tech trying to get a job from one of those old guys with years of seniority and a scarcity of jobs. IT is just too friggin hard these days.

I don't think any more can be infered about my domestic 3.86 or the overseas 3.0. To assume the overseas ability is greater is over reaching IMO. What I would like to see is a program in college where if you graduate with a very high GPA then your debt is reduced by some portion. Since society benefits by my brain and I've had my brain trained to serve some useful purpose then those benefiting from my efforts should pick up some of the tab. I mean if I have to pay for special ed kids when it means they are slow why not a program for special ed kids that are quicker than most. Scholarships etc are too political. I think that basically if you get an A in a cass then it should be free or reduced by some margin and whomever graduates at the top of the class (me for example) should be comp'd the whole education.
