  1. Disappointed Beta Player on DC Universe Online To Launch January 11th · · Score: 2

I've played 2 characters into the beta, albeit not very far. I've played quite a few MMO's, the most important being City of Heroes and Warcraft. I'll also say that I love DC comics, and I'm a huge fan of Superman and Batman ( as well as others). This game just isn't doing something that distinguishes itself from the pack. They could have chosed a more comic-like interface, instead it feels like an all too familiar MMO. They could have chosen a different combat system or more creative powers, but it feels recycled. Maybe it feels a lot better on the PS3, but this is one game that will most likely never be installed on my PC once it goes live.

Geeks who do not own a set of dice should be a bit more careful with how they throw around the term. D20 is to geek as sword is to knight. But the Power of Faerun book makes for a good read, if you are interested in the forgotten realms campaign setting. Otherwise, not necessarily the best addition to your book library.

  3. Searching bank accounts on Bank Accounts of 5,000 UK Terror Suspects Tracked · · Score: 1

When I worked for a bank a while back, we would scan all active accounts on a monthly basis. Essentially submitting a client list against a database of known suspects. It never searched for suspicious activity, so thats not a common thing. But frequently we had known customers appear on the list, and just waived them. Never really sure why they appeared but we knew they were ok, and just put them on the allow list basically. But it's definitly not a bad idea IMO

I was in attendence this year, it was a blast. You felt out of place if you didn't have a DS however, so friday night I got one from the local bestbuy. That place was a barren wasteland. Empty shelves, depleted stock, I got 1 of the 2 last DS's they had. The Tabletop room at the Red Lion was great, and it definitly benefitted from having it's own location. The smell... was not as bad as I was lead to believe, but not flowers by any means. Lots of free swag, demo's, contests, and raffles. Bawl's was everywhere... til they sold out, but Sno-bawl's was excellent! I took a few pictures, but haven't had a chance to digitize them and upload yet. Next year's bigger location in Seattle should make it an even bigger and more enjoyable event, and I highly recommend that video game inclined persons make it out at least once

  8. LCD's vs CRTs on Computers, Long Hours and Vision Problems? · · Score: 1

As a network admin and a wow player (I spent 25 hours a day on my PC), I've noticed a decent improvement in how many monitor related headaches I get from switching to an LCD. You said you use a laptop, so that's probably a null point. I don't really understand why that is, you'd think I'd get headaches regardless too.
Is there a scientific reason why looking at a monitor would decrease eyesight? I have 20/20 right now, and I really hope it doesn't go down over the years. Honestly I'm more worried about my hands/wrists, carpal and arthritis. I do find that if I break off from the monitor for a while it helps me focus better when I return.

Let's face it, 90% of us would love to get paid by people to sit on games like World of Warcraft and just play. Sure it's 'work', but with work like that, who need's fun?
I for one think it's moderately helpful. I've purchased gold before, because on months where I'm on the road, I can't rationalize my character just sitting around doing nothing.
I do agree however that such practices cause in game price inflation, and some problems with people 'ninja'ing items (ie taking it from right under your nose while you do real player stuff, like kill monsters)
But in disagreement with the Article, I've never been directly harassed by a farmer, but have gotten messages (PMs) from companies trying to sell me gold. I don't see the two as one in the same however, since the actual farmers themselves just do one thing, FARM.

  21. Superman: A sense of dread on Superman V: The Sordid Story · · Score: 1

Thats how I'm going to walk into this movie, with a sense of dread. Comic book movies have been relatively succesful lately (Xmen, X2, Spiderman, Punisher) and this one is touching some sensitive areas. The supermans released in the 70's and 80's were a different breed entirely. He was corny, and awkward, and a boy scout. Current superman images are mixed at best. Comic books show him in a variety of different ways, Smallville shows him as a young man (which I've never watched), and cartoons show him as I personally believe he should be portrayed. I think Superman: TAS and Justice League are the only steps in the right direction for a superhero like superman. People may complain about his invulernability and boy scout attitude, but to me its those 2 things that make some of his moral problems difficult to solve. Watching a movie where this 2 criteria are not considered, would give me a headache. I've been a superman fan for a majority of my life, and I can remember how shocked I was when he died at the hands of doomsday. To me, that would be one of the best movies they could make about him, but unfortunately could also turn into the biggest bust of all (if half of the idiocy took place that was mentioned in OP) I hate to say it, but Superman: TAS didn't last long. Justice league unlimited on cartoon network has a blurry future, and now this movie comes out. This just might be the deciding factor on whether superman has a future with our children, and I hate to leave decisions like that in the hands of the WB.

  22. Did both, moved to WoW on Review: City of Villains · · Score: 1

I played CoH for a long time from its inception. One day I just couldn't take it anymore. It is monotonous, and lacks any real personal interaction besides chatting. I did the beta for CoV, and I didn't even think I was playing a different game. It couldn't hold my interest past the first 5 levels. Which, generally speaking the first 5 levels should be the ones that really pull you into a game. A lot of the villain powers were the same as from city of heroes, though I admit I did like summoning cronies. But my backup power was a bow and arrow. I felt it was the same as CoH with a few different powers, and they basically used purple everywhere instead of blue (how villainous!) I really wanted to like it though, due to my deep seeded superhero infatuation. I stopped playing CoV beta, and I continue to WoW. But I'm praying to the MMORPG gods that DDO wins out

  23. Who benefits? on What's the Point of IT Certifications? · · Score: 1

The trick really is, if you are an employed, you get no benefit from having an employee certified. Maybe they learn something by studying for it, but more than likely they should learn just from doing their job, and you don't need to hand them an addition few hundred dollars to have Microsoft or CompTiA say "Nice job buddy!" It doesnt make them any better at their current job, when in fact all it does it make them more desireable at other positions, at other companies. That being said, if your employer will pay for ceritifications, eat it up. Take them, as much as possible, especially if the testing center isn't far, and they don't care if you pass the first time. My current employer pays for mine, and I feel a little guilty, but it's something to do, and I'm young enough yet where I need this to move on, because the experience I'm getting now is doubly as good if it shows I am still learning, and getting certified on the side.
