    it depends on which of the 3 links you're referring to - however, given the wording of your comment, i feel in no way inclined to respond so it really doesn't make a difference.

    I've been using this for some time now and like it a lot. Typically, the major problem with these applications is texture management - something that isn't an issue in the 2D world - and this one seems to do it very well on my ancient GeForce256. Once Longhorn comes out (:)) then this kind of thing will become more prevalent, if for no other reason than much of what you need to do it is built into the OS - video here. The other approach is not to make a desktop replacement, but create a while new platform.

    didn't altavista have something like this a long time ago? after you completed an image search, there was a button that said "show me more images like this" - and i seem to remember that "like" meant visually alike rather than keyword alike - i always wanted them to extend it so your initial search could start with a url to an existing image somewhere.

    coincidently i was looking at this monster yesterday - it's got a 3.4GHz processor, 2GB RAM, 256MG graphics card and a 60GB hard disk... external floppy drive though :) - almost $4K - ouch!

    from my point of view as a first time builder and competitor, we're clearly not creating robots on the bleeding edge (well, i'm not anyways) but there is much more too it than ripping a radio controlled toy to pieces and dropping everything in a metal box - we've all spent a long time designing constructing the frame & body, designing and building the electronics and trying to make things as robost as possible to withstand combat.

    i joined a local course for robot building and the timing worked out perfectly for the robolympics so we entered it in the 12lb combat class - it's going to get creamed in the first round - i started a blog that documented the build progress but i'm too scared to post it here - i only have a small bandwidth quota :) - here is a picture though - that's a stool underneath - it's actually very flat for scooping under other bots and can spin rapidly - still going to be decimated in the first 30 seconds though.

    that rings a bell with me too - maybe user numbers started at 100000 - i vaguely remember looking up profiles based on the number and no one seemed to exist before this value - the sad thing was someone scammed it off of him later and he contacted me for help - i no longer had access to the email account that i used to register so i was unable to help.

    i ebay'd off my ICQ number (1028XX) a few years ago for a joke and someone paid me $40 for it - i believe the numbers started at 100000 so it was quite an early one.

    If you want raw power as well as luggability, big hulking laptops like this aren't your only choice. The current generation of ultra small form factor pcs from Shuttle et al can fit this much power into a tiny case that comes with a cool carry bag. Add in a really nice 17" 12x10 lightweight lcd monitor and you're set with a lot more dosh left in your pocket - you can even splash on a dell 2001fp 16x12 lcd for $750 and still be way under budget. You pay a large premium to pack it all into a "portable" space and then it's difficult to upgrade.

    i'm not sure what you comment means - i was merely pointing out the fact that the same amount of cash as the list price for a prada shirt would get you a pretty nice pc - seems like a lot of money for a shirt to me..

    Doesn't this notion of a kludge apply to all of physics at any point in time though? Someone creates a theory for something which is backed up by current knowledge and experimental evidence. That's all it is though - at some point later when some new piece of knowledge appears, things can change dramatically and a whole new theory is born.

    I've always wanted someone who was really good at physics to create a book that explained common phenomena like gravity, electricity or light in radical new ways but was able to back it up and cover all the angles with solid theory.

    I take your point but (as I understand it) there is a big difference between how one relates to people of a different ethnicity, faith, creed etc. in the USA and how it works in India under the caste system - in some cases, regardless of how you feel personally, interaction outside of your own caste is strictly prohibited for instance.

    From friends and colleagues I know a little bit about the caste system in India - both in terms of it's positive and negative discrimination so I wondered what sort of effect if any does this have on your work? For instance, a lot of software is developed in teams - are there sensitive issues to resolve if different members of the team are from different castes ?

    one of the reasons i continue to use ie at home are the 3rd party toolbars that i've grown accustomed to and now would find it annoying to do without.

    for instance, yahoo companion makes it easy to search, easy to access different parts of yahoo and most importantly for me, allows me easy access to an online list of bookmarks that follow me wherever i go.

    i use netbsd at work and other than some minor gripes - load time ;-) and poor text rendering, i've grown to quite like firebird - especially tabs - an element sorely missing from regular ie.

    being employed has it's own set of issues as a software developer too - forgive me if this makes me sound like a spoilt brat but i have a well paid job in the software industry but not really doing what i like - i have about half a dozen "home" projects on the go with no time left in the evenings to take them to completion and it constantly gnaws away at me.. i guess, if i really had the cohonas i'd resign and take things full time but a san francisco bay area mortgage makes that mostly unfeasible.

    there is a company "80%/20%" policy that allows you to spend one day a week -i.e. 20% - on "your own" projects - reaching the next level in gta III counts but if you can demonstrate that it's something that might one day benefit google then you're set - it's a very forward thinking approach.

    The submission guidelines seem to contradict themselves or am i missing something?
    The relevant paragraph starts "The final design must be submitted as a scalable vector
    format EPS (Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia Freehand or similar), therefore no halftone
    (photographic or bitmap)" but then goes on to say "All designs shall be submitted for
    judging in electronic form as JPEG or PNG.". The original JPEG format (which I'm sure
    they mean) doesn't support vectors and PNG isn't the most obvious choice for a vector format.
