Any scripts in/etc/acpi/battery.d will run when the laptop is unplugged. You could create a script in this directory that kills compiz, and also create a script in/etc/acpi/ac.d to start compiz when you plug it in.
I'm concerned about the fact that children aren't mentioned once in this article. You would think that these grownups who are allergic to wi-fi would also mention that their children complain about the effects of wi-fi.
Perhaps the wi-fi has already killed off all of the children?
As a UW student and employee that uses both the Student Tech Fee computers and the Nebula computers, everyday when I walk into a computer lab I am grateful to see a complete lack of Vista machines. Let's just hope it stays that way.
Another thing people that actually produce creative works have to be worried about is if the concept of plagiarism gets washed under, where students who cheat by copying chunks of Wikipedia into their assignments doesn't even cross them as wrong. Or once they get into companies, and think nothing of copying your GPL'd source code into their program, and violate the license blatantly because they don't respect copyright laws.
It has beensaidrepeatedly in this topic, but downloading and enjoying others' works != taking credit and making money off of others' works.
Reminds me of the time in 9th grade that I got a detention for pulling the backspace key off of a keyboard in typing class. This was right after the instructor had said, "we should take the backspace keys off these keyboards so that you guys stop using them and learn to type accurately." I popped it off, proudly showed him what I had accomplished, then I popped it right back on. He gave me a detention for defacing school property.
We already do this - measure the position of the stars in the sky, then measure them about 183 days later. Based on how much the position of the stars change in relation to each other, you can find out how far away a star is. Kinda like when you alternate between having one eye closed then the other. Things that are close appear to move more than things that are far away.
Sounds like a solution to the linux codec problem. Just make the disclaimer really long and full of legalese, much like a EULA, so that nobody actually reads it, and thus nobody will be scared off.
I got Beryl/AIGLX running on my girlfriend's old laptop - that is, a 1.6 GHz Celeron, Old built-in Radeon graphics card (IGP 340m, shared memory) + OSS Radeon drivers, and 512 MB PC2100 RAM. It all runs pretty smooth, too. So, "a hardware upgrade [...] to run the 3D desktop options for Linux" is going to be extremely cheap, if necessary at all.
sure, why not?
yeah, some mods are real idiots.
Positively.
Fraudulent behavior only benefits MTS. Looks like MTS has a motive to not be nice. This motive ought to be removed by holding MTS responsible.
Wait, what type of car do you have again?
He's unbreakable
Fixed that for you!
That may be easy, but it's not always accurate *cough* Hyundai Motor Company

The 'About' dialog in Firefox says 3.0, but try:
$ apt-cache show firefox-3.0 | grep Version
When I run this command, I get the following output:
Version: 3.0~rc1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1
Version: 3.0~b5+nobinonly-0ubuntu3
I assume this means I'm using rc1?

So, tinfoil long johns?
See sig for cause of the problem.
Yes, just as a good Christian should quit their job if they are required to work on Sunday.
Even if you only had a few months left to live?
