If your workers are a-holes, chauvinists or otherwise would do this -- it sounds like you need a new crew. There are KAJILLIONS of good-natured, smart, talented, hard-working men and women that are more than capable. If I were in your shoes, I would fire anyone that I would even suspect before the fact that would be have even a remote chance of a problem with this. This is 2012, not 1962.
Or, Goto a print shop (or work for one, like me!). Cut the books with a big Guillotine clamp cutter (Super clean edges better than the original cut), then throw it through a modern copier with a RADF (Reversing Automatic Document Feeder) that automagically duplex scans in order straight to PDF. this takes about 90 seconds of human intervention if the book isn't too big (You'll probably have to put the book in the feeder in several lifts). I've done this for a class that had a HUGE hardback that we only used a couple chapters from (and I bought a funky used book for much cheaper).
Also, if you want the book back in it's semi-original state, just re-bind it. Rough-cut edges may work better for long-term, but padding the books works good enough for the 2 times you'll actually pull out the original from the library. PLUS, you can put cool custom spines on your books (barcoded, for sure).

I have an old laptop that I have spilled a half of a stout onto my wife's dell laptop (bad idea all around). The computer still works (almost) but the keyboard is all messed up (and thus I cannot log in, as it constantly types characters).
What is the best way to fix/clean this? Should I fight fire with fire and use some alcohol (methanol? ethanol? isopropanol? denatured? proof?)? -Z
I have a 1992 Honda Civic VX. It was rated 45/55mpg at the time of purchase. The worst it actually gets is 38. That's in the winter, driver over mountain passes with lots of acceleration, with over 200K miles on the car. The best it got was about 60 (just over 635 miles with 10.5 gallons). This is a 15 year old car, with 15 year old technology. It would smash the crap out of these smart cars, and its probably faster, too. My parents drove one (we have 2) on their anniversary to Mt. Rainier, and some large boulders fell on it (an one rolled underneath). Neither one of them got a scratch. The civic is stronger, faster, bigger, bets better gas mileage, has double-wishbone suspension, and doesn't look stupid. The original price was about 22.5K after tax and licensing and all that in Feb. 1992 dollars. I don't see ANY advantages to this smart car over my civic, except for the parallel parking thing (which I don't parallel park much anyway). I especially don't see all the hype with this car.
It is good, however, that small cars are back in fashion. Hopefully this will put pressure on the US market to include great high-mpg cars that are already sold in the EU (the GM/Opel Astra diesel hybrid comes to mind; I think it gets about 110mpg).
I found this list of numbers from paypal sucks.
http://www.paypalsucks.com/PayPalPhoneNumbers.shtm l
I think it would be possible to/. the phone systems! It would certainly be terrible if everyone in the company recieved 1000 messages in their voicemail overnight!
Call away! I've already left 5 messages!
P.S. I think that paypal can "see" what number you are calling from. So unless you are not a PayPal member, use a calling card, payphone or block your ID in some other fashion!

No kidding. It should also be able to load Vista and Play Duke Nukem Forever. Doing my dishes and laundry would also be a nice feature. At this level, It should also scoop the cat litter boxes! The screen size sucks, too. Puny 12.1"!

An SGI Tezro? Nah, those things are too cheap for my tastes (Only US$20K). I found 6 in the dumpster outside my apartment last week. Personally, for my 8 y.o. destructive boys, I would get them the Tulip laptop, shown here. And at over $300K a piece (a bargin if you ask me), I think I'll buy 2. Perfect for those eager 3rd graders!
My brother at college taught his Japanese roommate how to say "Real weird rear wheel drive" 3 times fast without much of an accent or lisp. Normally his "engrish" is exactly that. I guess it can be done!!!

"Their more general components have been found in early and current (Mac mini) Apple computers and numerous other electronic devices." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD I don't think they're saying that AMD PROCESSORS are in the Mac Mini, but rather other components made by AMD.
This puts Intel and Apple on opposite sides of the fence! Does this mean that the x86 Apple will be HD? or will Intel make a box that will contain BD? Maybe Apple will have support for HD, but not have it stock in their systems. Ohh well. I was hoping BD would eventually "win," this looks more distant now.
Uhhh, its actually quite amazing how radioactive you can be and still "pass inspection." I had a cat who had I-131 treatment for hyperthyroidism, and the radiologist(s?) that treated her kept telling me that if people really knew how much radiation you could have pumped into you (and then immediately go fly on a plane next to a pregnant person, infant, 100 year old, cat, etc...), people would probably freak.
The dosage they give (which would be proportionatly bigger per mass) is the aformentioned "legal limit." Note that excriment from such a radioactive being would set off detectors (and leave you with a large fine here in the US). Just my $.02
Was a HS teacher/coach who was murdered (in the Seattle area). They found the criminal the next day, and then learned that the police had already had him in custody an hour before the shooting. He had warrants for his arrest, but they did not come up on their computers when they had him, due to a name misspelling (his name had an "h" that was entered as an "n" iirc). So they let him go, and then he killed a tennis coach.
Also, I feel sorry for anyone who spells something wrong in this thread!!
That AC post was me. That's what you get for posting at 1:30 am. Is this like the like drunk texting? Probably. "Mr. Z"

Rogue Ales, Bridgeport Brewing, Hair of the Dog, Rock Bottom Brewery, Widmer Brothers, Redhook... http://www.portlandbeer.org/
There are DOZENS of microbrews in the NW. And most of them are fantastic!

I find it MORE interesting that the RIAA recently sued almost 650 "John Doe"s.
RIAA Brings New Round Of Lawsuits Against 751 Online Music Thieves"
And I quote: "In addition to the "John Doe" litigations, the major music companies filed lawsuits against 105 named defendants."
