When will politicians stop using the "think of the children" method to remove rights and liberties from the taxpayers hand... oh yeah, when it stops working...
Here is a little excerpt, something to help out the newcomers. Mein deutsche Grammatik ist nich gut, trägt so mit mir...
In 2001, Larry Sanger led the free online encyclopedia Wikipedia out of the cradle.
The conferece "Wizards of OS" in Berlin introduced a competing project: The Citizendium. This project aims to be more reliable and correct than the larger Wikipedia example. ...
[something...something... blah blah find something important...]
Larry Sanger calls Wikipedia a prototype and says "I am still a large fan of Wikipedia, however from a conscience point one must have the courage to start a new project."
Lets look at the wider picture of things. Some might argue this bit more extremist and suffice to say that government should manage vital resources like the such. The other side will call this communism.
Essentially, with democracy + free market + bill of rights, these rights are only guaranteed if you have lots of money.
Why go and confuse the poor kids? Just teach 'em C/C++. BASIC? Lets just teach 'em all Yiddish and tell them they have to learn Farsi when they turn 10...
Watch carefully, maybe we'll get another lesson in newspeak out of these quotes. I hear the words "democracy" and "freedom" are due to be removed from the dictionary next year...
I'm going to step back and argue from the opposing side of this issue (from my opinin, as I support the ISS).
What is the purpose of the ISS?
1. No major scientific gains have come from this project except from the few things we have learned about biology in space (while here I aside that this alone is valuable information and will be useful over the next few decades).
2. There is no economic value of such a object at current time (aside: I agree, but see my last aside; science doesn't always have immediate economic uses: anyone think Gregor Mendel would have thought he was pioneering a multi-billion dollar industry with those peas?).
...we can get the ADA to recognize "allergy to bad web design" as a disability we can start scaring all the web designers who think [NameOfColor] text on a [NameOfColor] background looks good...
I must agree. The current trend looks as if any chances of a third party forming would be a combination of conservative Democrats and liberal Republicans; however in today's political world in the U.S. I still see this as highly unlikely.
Eh, your example would also prevent 94.7% of all/. users as well from using the service in question. I'd say instead of cultural, maybe something relevant to the general audience of the service in question. Have 'em translate leet for/.
However when not logging in remotely, try using a Japanese (as in with kanji and kana) password on an English community. No one will guess it (manually at least, usually fewer characters unfortunately). I'd give an example but wait;/. doesn't support shift-JIS or ISO-2022-JP.
A solution to the keyboard problem would be "virtual" keyboards (i.e. how I can type in Japanese, German (ÄÖÜ) and Russian (In Soviet Russia, you don't type in/.,/. types in you... it ate my Cyrillic...just like my Japanese) with my US English QWERTY keyboard). On Windows these can easily be implemented via the language toolbar.
The real problem here is that while the police and FAA officials are retrieving iPods toilets; they could have been diverted from a real plot, where the iPod case was a ploy to divert attention or even just a coincidence.
A planet isn't a broad enough definition in my mind. While the size of a rock in space does pertain to its ability to contain Earth-like life it probably isn't too related to the actual ability to have any life. Suppose we do encounter other life out there who originate on a moon. More than likely they'll think of that moon as their planet.
On the other hand, imagine (just imagine, don't argue) that some other life developed on a gas giant (which shouldn't be impossible in theory, assuming the proper chemicals are present together in the atmosphere, not that they would necessarily need to be the same as the ones we know as organic chemicals...). And of course being the one single-viewed lifeforms all known life seems to be now, they think other forms of life would probably come from gas giants. Therefore, over looking Earth-like planets referring to them as dwarf rocks or something of the type...
it'll be like Puerto Rico. Always called a country/planet but only listed as a commonwealth/minor planet on official documents. This will be a lot more clear 500 years from now when a whole country worth of people can live for prolonged periods of time inside colony ships.
Whether you intended that to be taken lightly or not; you seem to totally avoid H. erectus (even if you don't believe Java man or Peking man there is also Turkana/Nariokotome boy and H. heidelbergensis. While they may have been less "ape" and more "man", rather cogent evidence exists pointing to their gradual development to present mankind.
Maybe some other notorious monsters of the net will help us get rid of them as well.
Too bad about the people losing their jobs, though, don't get me wrong.
The police departments are just like any other political organization or gorvernment department. If you don't keep an eye on them they'll start to become corrupt...

Wow, when did you go to school? I learned sqrt(-1) = i in the 10th grade... However, point taken.

Good points, exactly how I would have argued 2 if I had had the time to put down my own opinions.

Wow, its amazing how much credit people give scientists these days; from being heretics to being infallible superbeings...

I agree with some additional reasons...

Anyhow that's my two bits.

hmm... that's not the only BS I smell hear here.
So what's the Southeastern Conference sports have to do with one? (I just couldn't resist...)
