Well its about time the Conservatives got on the right side of this. The Liberals are whores to the American media companies. The Conservatives SHOULD have been rational about this but they got in bed with the same people who will TURN ON THEM EVERY ELECTION. The Media companies are ultimately Liberal stooges. Still, it remains to be seen if this is simply lip service or if this is something else.
Isn't one of the drawbacks of an ATSC digital signal that it's difficult to maintain a lock on it while you're in motion? They're advertising it as something to do once you arrive in your destination, so its not like people haven't been warned about the realities of the situation
I've always leaned conservative and with this issue I disagree. Protecting the liberal movie and entertainment industry goes against everything I stand for.
Or you could build your own into a necklace with GPS and a cheap GSM/3G chip that sends the current GPS location to a website or email address of your preference. You'd probably only need the cheapest data plan. Of course if she goes out of range of any cell towers, you're out of luck. And how would you recharge it? If it runs out of power, thats harsh. Unless its solar powered. But what if the sun goes nova? Too many variables.
All the same, I was tempted to buy a 1000HE, but of course, it only comes with XP as far as I can tell. I might end up going with one of the new dells instead.
Even the director's wand at an orchestra is a form of remote. But not very advanced in itself.
Ah, Music, A magic beyond all we do here at Hogwarts!
Seriously though, I've long considered the idea of a so called "magic wand" as being the penultimate input device for a holographic mobile computer. second only to simple gestures in air.
although in the meantime I'd be happy with embedded high definition video screens in normal looking glasses attached to the cell phone in my pocket perhaps with 3G/wifi.
What with their ridiculous SL series and their lack of Linux support (and flagrant linux dismissal) since IBM spun them off, I say goodbye to you. I shall miss the trackpoint, but as you are trying to phase it out anyways, c'est la vie.
Why is there no major Linux vendor, anyways? Aside from repackaging Windows machines with Linux? Why can't somebody do for Linux what Apple does for OSX?
I do stipulate restrictions on how my money (and it is *my money*, i designed it myself) is used: it cannot be transferred to another country, nor transferred electronically, it is forbidden to reproduce likenesses of it, I offer no guarantee that it will continue to function, I reserve the right to cancel it at any time without notice, etc.
so, essentially indistinguishable from the American dollar, which could become worthless at any moment.
You see, when I buy something, I like to own it. If I buy a car, I like to know that the car won't be taken away from me just because I lend it to a friend. If I cannot own something or there are stipulations, then I will not buy it. If there is no alternative than "piracy", I will obtain it. Simple as that. Why am I not buying Blu-Ray discs? I cannot be sure they will be playable for all time on my Linux computer. If I download a pirated mkv high def movie, I know that it will always be supported.
In conclusion, this won't stop illegal downloading. The only thing that can stop illegal downloading is treating your customers with respect and offering something of value, not the latest in a long line of DIVX/DRM garbage.
Then again, maybe the rest of the world isn't like me. Maybe most people in the world are stupid enough to pay for something they won't actually own.
oh I'm not a member of the democratic party or supporter of Obama, I saw this coming, especially when he selected Biden as his vice president, but all the same, his youthful volunteers did not, and will not like this.
If this was an april fools day joke, they did a good job of making it subtle. This sort of thing is par for the course for the Quebec government. Mostly with these laws and media ownership/controls Quebec sovereigntists want to create a closed society where people don't feel an affinity with the country of Canada. Which is working over time, as Quebeckers more and more make that claim. I've heard many soverigntist youth make that statement. "Oh I don't feel Canadian I feel I am a Quebecois" or whatever. Well of course you do. Your mind belongs to your society in that way. They're certainly entitled to feel that way, but its intellectually dishonest I believe to manage a society this way, especially when society as a whole is becoming more global, Plus, its all words. The first Canadians were essentially Quebeckers. Quebeckers not associating themselves as Canadians just because of the existence of the rest of Canada is like Canadians not calling themselves North Americans, because American's "ruined the term". And also, theres really no point in trying to stave it off. I mean, Japan today isn't the same as Japan 100 years ago, but they're still a unique culture. Ah well, the best thing for Canada would be if they really did separate. Then we could actually stop giving them money, and appeasing them at every turn. Plus we could get rid of "official bilinguism" which doesn't really accomplish anything but keep qualified individuals from getting jobs. You need to speak English and French to get a government job, but in Quebec English is shunned. It's the hypocrisy of political correctness really. It really is a shame as most Canadians, myself included, generally like Quebec and are happy for them to speak french and be part of the social fabric. But when they bitch and moan over and over, it's just ridiculous.
Most important to me is that it minimizes the amount of stuff I have to carry. Also most ebook readers have pretty bad batteries (even AA or AAA from what I've seen) wheras the average netbook battery powering an e-ink scren would let you read for a long long time.
Second, it might cost $300 more, but thats still a good deal for an e-book reader.
I don't want the e-ink screen to replace the lcd screen, I want the e-ink screen to be built in to the lid.
I DO NOT want to open up the netbook to read a book. I want the lid closed and for the device to be rectangular and book shaped.
And I sure has hell am never buying a DRM-ed piece of crap like the kindle. No way.
While they claim (and reports indicate) Windows 7 will be faster than Vista, I wouldn't put it past Microsoft to shoot themselves in the foot as soon as it's released.
And I don't think its the success of Netbooks that is making Microsoft focus on speed on netbooks. It's the fear of Linux/Android taking over where Windows Vista cannot work that is making them focus on speed for Windows 7. Amusingly enough, if Arm based netbooks take off, Not only is Microsoft screwed, but intel too.
Then again, Via Nano based netbooks are also starting to be rolled out, and they are comparable to the atom chipset. We'll see.
Nobody has made a netbook where when the lid is closed you have an e-ink screen for dual use as an ebook reader. This is totally pissing me off. I'm not the only person in the world who wants this or has thought of this.
What good is a regulatory body if they don't actually regulate the actions that need regulating?
Disgusting.
And they want MORE power to regulate the internet in Canada? I don't think so. I would hope the conservatives in power, who are usually the type to want to deregulate industry, eliminate the (now proven) useless CRTC bureaucracy, but clearly that sort of action is only meant for banks and big polluters. I mean, heaven help us if we look at things from the consumers point of view for once.

Man am I glad I never got on this bandwagon.
I've always leaned conservative and with this issue I disagree. Protecting the liberal movie and entertainment industry goes against everything I stand for.

Man, this'll get me through those tough Canadian winters when clubbing baby seals isn't in season. It'll probably help improve my accuracy too!

Is being elected by the people to bring change, and instead offering more of the same old hollywood criminals exactly what they want.
