    What? I never said "go ahead and snoop, but just not on me". I meant, "We just don't want it snooping ". We don't need the government to protect our information. We just don't want the government snooping. I don't have a fundamental misunderstanding about my privacy and the technology involved, I just want the government not spying on its citizens. Not spying is not the same as protecting from spying.

    What does coding marathons have to do with a degree?
    I never programmed before university, and I'm on my way to a CS degree. I don't like hacking, but I don't feel like getting this degree will be very hard. CS is about so much more than being a code monkey.
    I did play a lot of games though..

    Voting is not compulsory here in Sweden. Still, of the people allowed to vote, 80% voted in the election yesterday. This is considered low and will hopefully change for the better.
    Hopefully the Pirate Party got a place in parliament.

    Piracy is not what the party is about, it's a name they picked to be noticable.
    The consumer rights party would be a stupid name, as it would infer some capitalist values and the party does not take a stance in questions like that.

    The party is here to counter the police state we are turning into with Bodström giving the lobbying organisations whatever they want, and to put a stop to the silliness of patents and eternal copyright.

    And this is one of the main reasons I'm voting for the Pirate Party this election.
    People have mistaken their politics a lot, thinking it's just about kids wanting to download free stuff. It's starting to change now though, they are getting a lot of attention in media and people willing to listen can understand what it's all about.

    You don't need to tell people about all the killing and all those rockets. I guess it can be hard to find reliable numbers, but I would guess that a lot more arab civilians have died than Israeli civilians.
    Israel is still oppressing the palestinian people because THEY THINK THEIR FUCKING GOD GAVE THE LAND TO THEM! We need to eradicate religion as soon as possible, this is sickening. It's sickening that you got modded insightful, it's sickening that the israelis just mow through palestinian settlements with tanks, it's sickening the way the world is not handling this. It cannot be exressed in words how much i loathe religion as I write this.
    Yes, maybe the UN should be defaced, but because of the vote to partition Palestine in 1947.
    Why should Hizbollah not be allowed to gear up for war when Israel has an army and intend to destroy them?

    Nvidia does not have good Linux support.

    I never programmed anything on a mac, but I was at an Apple workshop this spring and the Apple guy was talking about Xcode.
    Apparently gcc wasn't very good. Developers were upset when they compiled their projects in Xcode rather than from Code Warrior for the first time. Compiling things took like fifty times longer. Granted, Apple worked on this and gcc4 is faster.
    Now this could all be bullshit, I dunno, I haven't seen any of this referenced other than being told by this Apple guy. But it would be pretty bold to say something like that and not be able to back it up were someone to ask you about it. Anyways, just saying companies are competetive, and maybe not all gnu projects are more capable than proprietary alternatives.

    So you benchmark the performance of a computer by the size of its harddrive?
    You have yet to see any specifics on the processor in the PS3?
    You seem to like the idea of comparing clock frequency, so show me where to get a 12.8 Ghz processor with 28 SPEs. You can't just multiply every number you find on the specs for a computer to get a system four times more powerful. How would you even measure the "powerfulness"? No, I don't see what you mean by getting a system far more powerful for the same price.

    But your post was about having to spend 40 hours killing things to progress, and then about how the crafting made FFXI the worst designed game.
    I know the term casual player is spoony, but if you don't want to spend all your time playing then I'd say you are a casual player.

    So give us a url to a shopping cart on some webshop showing us the parts for a $1000 computer _four times_ more powerful than a PS3.
    I'd very much like to get one of those.
    For all I care, you can buy a Virtual Boy for christmas. It's about the games, I've spent a heck of a lot more than $1000 on games only for my PS2, and the console cost me $400. If I can get a PS3 for $600, I still have $800 to spend on games.

    Are the people at Nintendo really better? Remember the price fixing?
    Corporations will always be corporations, that doesn't mean the developers at sony computer entertainment or microsoft games are asses..

    But you don't have to be a crafter for the story to progress in FFXI. Things like crafting are not for the casual players that only want to kill things. I happen to think the crafting in FFXI is awesome, in how many other games are there crafted items that only like ten people on any given server has? The availability of ingredients and the "difficulty" of crafting ensures that some recipies succeed very rarely.
    Casual players that want to see the storyline of a game should not be playing mmos. Pick another game, one that you enjoy playing. People need to stop whining about how games are implemented and start playing games they like instead of trying to change the games they play. Just because you don't like spending hours in game doing pointless things doesn't mean you have to ruin the game for everyone else.

    What makes that priceless domination? Why would a game like that be more worthy than a frantic fps? Do you really not think twitch games require skill?
    If you think fps games require actual physical skill then you need to get some excercise, because moving a mouse about is not exhausting.
    You can't say that fps games are for stupid people just because YOU don't have the necessary skill.
