Wikipedia doesn't really tell me much: "The normal ligands for this receptor, RANTES, macrophage inflammatory protein (MIP)-1-beta and MIP-1-alpha, are able to suppress HIV-1 infection in vitro" Ooooooook...
I don't care about it, just a weird bunch of links a friend gave me, I've read the last one. It seemed interesting, so I gave slashdot those links.
What do you say about not sleeping / eating being a reason for immunodeficiency? Just being up 15 hours I can feel my body breaking down.
The only reason I just gave links (which I got from another place) is because not having something good enough written. I've got this, a shitty re-writing from the last link (which is insanely long).
People that have HIV are said to eventually get AIDS, and there was made a treatment for this: AZT. This treatment is the same to cure cancer: the way this works is by killing all cell production in the body, so the cancer breaks down (because it's just a part of your body, cells growing wrong) hopefully before you do. This is essentially what AIDS does, and the AZT treatment is much more intense than for cancer patients.
HIV doesn't really do anything, it's a "retrovirus".
"The retrovirus basically seems to be a squatter virus, it doesn't want to kill anybody in the house, it just wants to move in" *
When you found viruses before, was when you looked for a disease, so that's why it took so long to find HIV.
There's 25 diseases that's been in existance for a long time, which are all clumped into as AIDS.
HIV kills far less cells than what are re-created all the time by the body - 0.1% in a day - during the same time the body has regenerated 30%. Hepatitis kills 100%, flu 30%.
For other diseases, if they can spread by (in most ways), it's basically 50% divided between genders, for AIDS it's 80% males, 20% females. Which he says corresponds to the same percentage as heavy drug users.
It's said HIV takes 10 years to "start working". It's not that for any disease. Either when a doctor doesn't know stuff about a disease, they either say it's "slow to start working" or "kills the immune system", HIV is said to be both. In the interview, he explains the "10 year period" as the amount of time of heavy drug abuse which would be needed to tottally fuck up your body.
"Virtually all heterosexuals with AIDS are long-term cocaine and heroin users. And orally consumed drugs, which includes to some degree cocaine, but mainly the ones that are used by the gays as aphrodisiacs, or to facilitate anal intercourse, like the nitrite inhalants, ethyl-chloride inhalants, Quaaludes, PCP, LSD, Ecstasy, and all of the combinations of things that they're using"
If you're on heavy drugs, then you don't feel the need to sleep or eat - and this is the highest reason for immune deficiency (AIDS) in the world.
If they didn't want to squash their competitors, they'd obviously offer it for a prize, but drones like you only see it as google being nice and thinking about the costumer - just like big MS brother making everything simple with bundling a webbrowser / IM / spreadsheet... all for free.
OT+++ WARNING WARNING:
You know what, I'd love to pay for things like this. I'd love for a search that allows beyond the first 1000 results. I'd love unicode support.
I'd love filtering out blogs/forums (can be done by looking for usual things like, oh - "forum" "blog" "reply") and then being able to search these specifically, say on slashdot - by discussion, poster, score, moderation-title, sub-discussion, title, friend/foe - and I've noticed many times when I search on something (often when I save the post but not the address) google doesn't it have it indexed.
I'd love to search by date. I remember a mention: searching on a word getting popularized by a movie, and even with filtering out (using the lucious 10 word limit) it was still drenched in movie related hits.
I'd love a version which has lesser functuality than normal, but with no hidden spyware (aka data mining) - the first hit turning into crap like this http://www.google.com/url?sa=t& ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A//security.kol la.de/&ei=XsD_Qr_LCI3ywQHY38jhBA is starting to annoy me. Slashdot: Surving by killing stuff
"Lol! You're telling me you have to destroy life to survive? Greenpeace aha - your the absurd animal killings for vanity - furs and makeup just lost all credibility!" *goes back to eating his varied omnivorous bacon sandwich*
I remember a carmack plan file, where he said in each new generation of games, you have to spend more and more time on development, while it will still only be played for the same time....Which must of been before Q3 got the A.
Not everything has to be specified though, the neXtbox has been touted as doing a lot of procedural stuff. Which is basically that all textures are just mathematical formula. This also makes textures 3d, so you could for example chop off some polys of something, and it would still look right.
"[...] Tom Betts is one of the most exciting and versatile artists [...]"
Sure... the vids are nasty and choppy - hard to explain it beyond that. Like some shit coming on your windscreen every 5 secs on a really bumpy road.
It's... not clearing the framebuffer? The only effect I see really. And then using blendingmode: screen/colourdodge, or maybe q3 does it by default. I've done some cool pics (you know, that game had a colourscheme) in q2gloom in chasecam mode clipping into things using that error. Found one which wasn't just ugly colours or a mismash of a million things, upper part looks nice - not multisampling though?
Many of the screenys look cool though - in thumbnails. When you blow them up you see it's just blending together frames of ordinary q3 things.
Another nice, although with seeing the vids I can imagine the stutter and crap, kinda off-turning. A lot of these can be done without any performance loss - especially colour schemes, I remember fucking around with the gamma settings and getting really trippy stuff - brightness went from like orange to green to purple. And just upping the saturation (nvidia called it some flashy name) made getting any hit red up your entire screen.
I did some screenys where I stayed at the same spot for 30+ mins, just taking screenshots. Then blending them together (mode: lighten) selectively to make it look like a huge fight.
You should have elaborated on just the last paragraph - copy protection doesn't matter as long as 1 single person can break it, as then it can multiply on the net.
Not a ripoff as much as a money-making scheme, Isohunt recommends it, that it's "spyware free", but damn, what's the -ware for "has ads on the left and 2 buttons with shopping and find a chick to fuck today!"?

80s is a little extreme, I would say before games were 3d / above 320x200. Now companies have figured out they only need 1 word for success - realism.
But let's not conflate improvements in graphics and audio [...]
I've never heard someone talk about a good song in technological qualities, so I'll equate the same to games, and then the only tech improvement in 10+ years would be the surround thing, but I don't think many people have it. *Add a million words about Quake here, such as the "atmosphere" word, because everything fit together, and that sound in later games were the opposite of improvements*
Q1 is still my absolute favorite game. You just can't beat the dark midevil gothic look. Not to mention the realistic sound effects. The sound effects in q2 were a real disappointment, everything sounded tinny and hollow. Fire a rocket and *ker chink*. What kind of sound is that? People knew when you were firing a rocket in q1. [

[...] with improvements in fun, which is, after all, the whole point of games
This algorithm has also been figured out - the majority forget about fun when they have
1) Adrenaline pumping. Improvements in AI? No, just use human opponents instead. Improvements in challenges? No, most people don't play it then - let's stop at "shooting stuff". (A slashdot discussion that google won't find - talking about Descent as the ultimate game - 6 dimensions - 3 strafe and 3 rotate)
2) The collector instinct pumping. Or somesuch, materialism materialism. Ultima Online was to be the ultimate reality-simulator, but people complained that "griefers" destroyed their single player experience, so after awhile it just turned into a single-player resource collection game, with the added quality of not having to brag outside the game, just go to the bank instead.
I can't paint anything realistic, but I can make pretty colours. That aestetics part, although a large portion will only talk about art as in * "omg it looks like a photo!" * if you can write a thousand words about it * being able to brag about the techniques for 1 hour * if there's tits in it, you'll use aestetics "knowledge" to explain its artiness, while it's obviously just about the tits
and Japanese word lengths don't translate properly to English word lengths
I suppose this is because each sign is 1 syllable? It all feels like a butchering when you turn it to english, I'm getting this imagery of large brush-strokes painting... well, yeah. For english it should just be called "poetry".

Adobe would much rather sell you two applications than just one
They changed that with "creative suite" - now you should buy 8 apps. Photoshop CS screams "buy the rest of CS too" - really, genious marketing. Gotta love their (sloppy) lock-in too.
