    Since when is BP included with the likes of Apple and Intel?

    is that worth $5000? don't think so.
    (here in oklahoma, where the teachers are paid close to the lowest in the country, $5000 is a major chunk of a teachers yearly income).

    but why is google doing this?
    (what are their secret motives?)

    i rtfa, and all i found was: "Under the terms of the deal, the basic wireless internet access would be free, but Google could charge users fees for premium services."

    so why would google spend so much money to provide this with possibly/probably little return?

    Have you ever really tried to get cell phone service?
    Don't they use your SSN to check your credit rating?
    I doubt a fake SSN will get you very far...

    MS including a useful tool for free along with their operating system would immediately get the attention of the justice department.
    they would be forced to split it up.

    The parent has got to modded offtopic... LaTeX is not limited to Linux.
    LaTeX is NOT a reason to switch.
    I've been using LaTeX on Windows for years, and I love it.
    The TeXLive system works great on Windows, I have all the tools I need - windvi, pdflatex, ghostscript, bibtex, etc.

    yeah, so the NES was da bomb, everything from the perfect rectangular controllers to the sexy graphics.
    But, the connector for the cartridges?
    the engineer that designed that should be shot and killed.
    you know how it went... blow on the cartridge, shove it into the NES, push down, hit power, nope, didn't work.
    so you try a different method... be very gentle, slowly insert the cartridge, slower push down, hit power, still nothing.
    every person had a different technique.
    some said to put the cartridge in with the power already on.
    but when it did work... hell yeah.

    Great... but why don't they also decrease the price of entry?
    - they could easily sell the older models at a decrease price.
    I would love to try a Mac, but they still don't have any try-me prices.
    (yes, I know there's the mac mini, but from what I've read, I don't consider it to be fully representative of what apple and OSX can offer.)

    sorry, but i got to say: duh.
    none of the major computer manufacturers are going to go out of their way to help you install a product they haven't approved.
    they're all under some sort of contract with MS.
    this has been discussed numerous times here before.
    this is just all a part of the linux experience.... you gotta do it yourself.
    you can't rely on HP or dell or even the compusa tech people.

    so in your opinion, is 4 more false positives worth the increase in true positives?

    this is one thing i'm struggling with, is how to compare the results of 2 filters on the same corpus.
    we know FP's are substantially worse than any spam that gets through, but how much worse?

    but in the days of terrorism and backpack-sized nuclear bombs,
    how vital is research in speakers to protect submarines?
    I don't see submarines as a major player in future battles.
    I'd much rather see money spent training secret agents in anti-terrorism techniques.

    I'm sure this will be moddded offtopic, but...

    Why isn't there a Google section on the navigation bar on the left?
    If there's an infrequently updated Apache section,
    surely Google deserves one as well.
    It seems like 50% off all stories lately are Google related.

    (it is an MS product afterall).

    it's worked fine for me,

    I've been using it for awhile, it works pretty well.

    who in their right mind would give their cell number to google....

    they'll use their Google Earth technology to locate my cell phone,
    use their Google Images search technology to find out who I am,
    then they'll Google ME,
    they'll use Google Maps to find directions to me,
    then they'll do experiments on me in Google Labs,
    then, then, ....
    profit?
