Oh well, it's not like YouTube is going down...and even if it did everyone knows that something would come up to replace it...probably a site with less regard for copyright law
You made an interesting point about something would come up to replace it. Seven years ago the RIAA went after Napster and took it down. Now back then broadband hadn't penetrated the market like it had today but Napster was being used by everyone. After it went down kazaa, morpheus, winmx, and a ton more came into play with less care into copyright law. Seven years later we have a bigger market penetration of broadband and the users are moving over to video because they can now view it faster then they did seven years ago. If youtube were to go down, there will be another website to come back up with less care of copyright law. I know of a few already where I can see clips of Dailyshow, Colbert Report, Soccer, and TV shows.

Now im not here to just bring in the RIAA but it seems like history is repeating itself but instead of a music media its now a video media under fire.

I love Digg, I love Slashdot, I love Reddit. But you're right, today they lost alot of credibility. I've had my own blog on the front of Digg, I wrote it simply because I enjoy being on Digg. Unfortunately, over the past few months we started to notice that certain stories were being pulled from the front page or not even allowed on the front page. We complained and commented on the accounts but nothing ever came about it. Today though, Digg couldn't get away with what they did and their paying for the mistake right now. 6. Games, Movies, Music, Web browsing , etc... on The PSP - Sony's Missed Opportunity · · Score: 2, Interesting

The PSP is a perfect example of a company cramming as many features into one product, marketing all these features, and then not following through. UMD failed because it was proprietary format that could only play on the PSP and most of the games that came out for the first year were ports of PS1 and PS2 games. As for a mp3 player the damn thing is too big, and I cant say much for the web browsing feature since I don't do web browsing on the go. As for trying to move onto the online downloading market with the PSP, their just beating a dead horse.

  7. Re:New gamers not digging the lackluster VC... on Mixed News for Nintendo, Microsoft · · Score: 2, Insightful

The prices are unjustified on the Virtual Console. NES games should be a dollar, if they were a dollar I wouldn't mind dropping 10$ easily in one sitting for ten games. But the current price tag of 5$ is just ridiculous, the game is already finished. Its either emulated or modified to run on the Wii, which more then likely takes little to no time to do. Yet I sit here looking at Super Mario Brothers for the price of 5$, and the majority of us already purchased the game in our life time (if not several times). I feel like I'm getting screwed by buying games on the Virtual Console.

  9. Re:Why don't they get it? on Jon Stewart, Lorne Michaels Come Out In Favour of YouTube · · Score: 3, Interesting

They never will get it till its too late. The RIAA knew what was coming but instead of embracing the technology and switching their tactics over, they stumbled on their feet for too long and now look what has happened, they had to go with iTunes and share the profit/benefits. The problem all comes down to the profit/benefits. None of these companies want to deal with youtube because someone in the company realizes they can do it themselves and retain full profit/benefits without using youtube. Unfortunately, they will create their own system that is bulky, slow, and full of advertisements, DRM'd to hell, which in the end will just push the consumer away. Comedy Central did this with their "Mother Load", and its complete garbage compared to youtube.

No, we need to teach students how to recognize good sources and bad sources, how to research, and what citation means. Failure to do so will just create yet another generation of research-i-tards that can't find information to save their life. Exactly, as a current college student I have realized that Wikipedia, although an excellent starting point, is not necessarily an unreliable source but not a credible source. As for turning a paper in with a cited source being Wikipedia, you will not be punished but the professor will note that you should use a better source for information. Personally, if you just scroll to the bottom of a Wikipedia page you can find all the sources of information, and those are where students should be focusing on.

  14. Cheating on Most Impressive Game AI? · · Score: 5, Interesting

Ive noticed that AI is not designed to beat your next move but is designed to cheat you without the player noticing. Command and Conquer and Gears of War are two games that have two well hidden cheats. Command and Conquer is twelve years old almost, the enemy AI was programmed to always have full resources as long as one harvester made it back. Therefor what would take you five harvesters would only require them one. Most players would of never noticed this unless their strategy was to cut off enemy resources instead of an full out assault. Gears of War was praised for having AI that used the environment to their advantage which helped cover a little cheat they had. The AI had a weird tendency to know exactly where you were as long as your cross hair covered them or came close to them. For example if you were to pop your head out and just happen to have your cross hair on an enemy turret that was always firing at a covered friend, it would immediately start firing at you, this would also goes for the regular grunts/guards. This is very noticeable on "Insane", since that mode requires you to use cover 90% of the time and better tactics then rush in and shoot everything that moves. AI is not designed to outsmart/out think/or consider your next move, in my opinion most AI is designed to defeat you by using small cheats in the programming that give it an unfair advantage and hopefully designed so that you wont be able to notice it.

Whoops, my post exlains why the profit has dropped dramastically. As for album sales in total dropping which is the same concept, lets say you sell 1 million CD singles, and 1 million full albums thats 2 million albums sold. Now eliminate the CD single and your down to 1 million albums sold which drops total albums sold by 50%.

  18. Singles on Record Labels Struggle With the Album's Demise · · Score: 5, Insightful

The reason why sales are down on albums is cause they were always inflated in the past. They used to sell CD singles at full price (lets say $10), the album that would follow later in time (also priced at $10) with a total sale of $20. Now you can buy the single for a $1 and if you want the full CD for $10, with a difference of $9, thats where alot of the profit has been lost. Those are just made up numbers but it gets the point across.

God forbid Nintendo would want to make FUN games, instead of exclusively games that take 5 years of development Exactly, the Wii was designed to be simple and easy to develop for, so developers wouldn't have to reserve years of development time towards brand new hardware. Nintendo understands that a third party company doesn't have the resources to do this, this is why the Wii is easy to develop for and uses older hardware.
