  1. Bull on Industry Fallout from GTA IV Delay · · Score: 1

If anything, the delay of GTA4 is for the best.

This holiday market is already flooded with tons of new releases. Right now I have to make decisions on what games I want to buy. And with Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band costing way above the average of a regular game it makes my choices harder and fewer.

Most of the individuals I've talked to who own either a PS3 or 360 are relieved that GTA4 was delayed.

  2. Re:*sigh* on The Pirate Bay About To Relaunch Suprnova.org · · Score: 5, Insightful

Man I agree totally with you. This is hurting the little guy worse then its hurting the corporate level. I hate reading the countless comments praising them as heroes or saints at Pirate Bay.

Imagine the little guy putting countless hours and his heart and soul into developing a piece of software and offering it at a reasonable price. Then he hopes onto Pirate Bay and searches for it, and then he sees it being distributed by hundreds of people. Now some would feel happy that their software is being used. Unfortunately, that man is looking to make an income off of the software he sells. That man is now devastated and theres nothing he can do about it.

Pirate Bay is horrible. They know what their doing over there. I don't care if they operate in a country that by their law says they can do what they do. I don't care if they think their sticking it to the man. Those two excuses are getting old. And the worst part is how arrogant Pirate Bay is about all this.

Now most of you wont care of what I said. Thats fine. But I personally know someone who is devastated that his software is being distributed for free and theres not a god damn thing he can do about it. And I bet theres people on Slashdot that are seeing the same thing.

On a lighter note, your uninstall tool is amazing A+++

So your saying instead of releasing a video of Viva Pinata, they should have released a demo of Viva Pinata for $2.50 instead? Maybe then it would of sold more units then it actually did?

Seriously, if this is true then their just abusing the market and the gamers. I already commented on the exclusive title garbage today and now they might charge for demos. Give me a break.

  5. You Know on Sony Announces New Exclusive Rockstar Title · · Score: 3, Interesting

This current generation is just awful. All the three big companies have been doing is either bragging about their exclusives or promising new and better features down the road.

I want to see the results of this. I'm tired of waiting for all these promises. I'm tired of being disappointed. I want it to be delivered not stated and put off till god knows when.

Sony stated it the best a while ago. Your investing in potential. As much as I hate them, they admitted to it. For the first time a console company in the industry admitted that your buying potential in a console.

All its been is this. Microsoft and Sony are bickering over who has more or better exclusive titles. And Nintendo keeps promising us online game play and their real flagship titles this fall.

I own a 360, I only play Guitar Hero 2, its the only game that screams "come back and play me". I also own a Wii, a complete disappointment, once I finished Zelda there was nothing left. Nintendo leaving out online multiplayer right off the back showed me that they are still behind. There was no excuse for that not to be there at launch. As for the PS3, I cant justify the steep price right now, blu-ray or not I want a gaming console not a blu-ray player.

I will say this though. For the first time in a while I was floored by a single game this generation. This has only happened a few times, Doom, Mario 64, Half-Life, Starcraft, and now Gears of War. As for Guitar Hero 2, the only game that has made me go back and play it again like this is Starcraft.

Oh by the way funny story about Batavia High School parking. Not only did we have to pay I think 75$ at the time to park(its probably 100-125$ now). They refused to expand the parking lot since they ran out of spaces. So what did BHS students do? In mass we started parking illegally all around the school. At first they started ticketing us but they realized the mob had spoken and for once the students won.

  7. Graduate on School District To Parents — Buy Office 2007 · · Score: 1

As a 2003 graduate of Batavia High School(and current resident) I will say right now that not only is the school system in Batavia ass backwards but the town itself has many issues. Batavia is a town where no one wants to make a call on anything. The least of the problems right now is making sure every kid has a copy of Office 2007 at home. Maybe they should fix the over crowding issue at Batavia High School? Field house maybe? or that auditorium instead of a cafe-torium?

  8. Nintendo on Where the Wii Fits In · · Score: 3, Interesting

The problem with Nintendo was that after SNES they held the same position in development. The n64 was an amazing system but compare it to the play station, it wasn't moving forward in "NEW" technology and im talking the cdrom. The same thing happened with the game cube also just wasn't up to par to what the consumer was looking for.

These days were looking for a game console that can do more then just play games. Nintendo blew that opportunity the last generation. This generation the new consoles go online, can browse the web, download games, listen to music, but thats all been done. Nintendo on the other hand is bringing something to the table that no one else has and thats actually trying to make you feel like your part of the game.

Will it work out for Nintendo in the end? I don't know, I own a Wii and I haven't played it in weeks. I own a 360 and I play that almost everyday. If anything Nintendo is holding to the past with its slow delivery. Online play should have worked out of the box on the first day, the lack of launch titles other then Zelda just reminded me of the n64 and game cube era again, and their online system is pretty lame right now.

As for Nintendo neglecting their roots, they never will neglect their roots but they also know that hanging on to their roots will sink their ship back into third once again. And from my last check they are about to take the crown back shortly. So I guess their doing something right.

What I found awesome about this how situation is how Sony presented it to us.

On Monday they announced the price cut of the console. Gamers were excited.

On Wednesday they showed off whats to come to the console. Gamers were amazed.

By Thursday, early reports were coming in that the price drop was limited.

At this point we were all fooled by Sony once again. They showed us all their new products and I will admit some of which look really cool. Then they tried to slip this under the radar without anyone noticing. That would of worked ten years ago without much notice but its not that easy today

Whats worst of all though, when their done selling the 60gig model, all you have is a 80gig model which is actually more crippled then then the launch model which had the emotion engine for backward compatibility.

I think Microsoft did an excellent job of showcasing what the new e3 is about. They presented themselves like they would to shareholders in a company. They talked about the current market and how they are standing up to the competition. (And when they showed the numbers they showed Nintendo right behind them and didnt hide it) They showed off their exclusive titles, new services to xbox live, and of course they showed us game play of new titles.

This is the new E3, no more crowded booths, no more distractions with booth babes, crazy music, and all that jazz. This is about showing off what you got against the competition.

  18. Friends on The Psychology of Facebook Examined · · Score: 5, Interesting

Facebook also digs away at the insecurities in people. "I have one friend" probably makes some people feel a bit insecure and Billy no-mates. In the deeply insecure, this may be amplified by the lie-awake-at-night worry that your peers can see your profile on Facebook, and while they may have 50, 100, 200 friends they will mockingly see that you have a pathetically small number, confirming your worst fears about the low opinion they have probably held of you over all those years etc. The individual who has less friends is more likely to be secure with themselves, since you know they actually try to create some sort of friendship bond. Ive had facebook since 2005 when my university was added to the system. So far Ive realized that the individual who adds everyone as a friend, even when the two people have only said "Hi" once to each other, is usually the person who is insecure and just fucking crazy.
  19. Re:Xbox division profitable when? on Microsoft Readies Cheaper 360 · · Score: 1

When does Microsoft now expect their Xbox division to become profitable?

When it comes to the console being profitable it really starts to go at the end of its life(Unless your Nintendo and your using older technology to offset the costs with the Wii). I mean Sony is a perfect example, even though their losing alot on each PS3 that is sold the PS2 sold like crazy this past Christmas and its nearing the end of its life.

As for the division being profitable, I think a huge hurdle for the industry as whole is that the industry has changed in the game development area. Fifteen years ago you could develop/produce a game with a team of three people with minimal costs. Now a big name title will easily have fifteen people working on it, if not more, take several years to put together and cost millions.
