Even though he is against torture, he doesn't want the CIA limited to the Army manual. That's because the US Army is not in the business of interrogation. That's the CIA's job. If you limit the CIA to the Army's rules, you are eliminating the CIA's ability to do it's job. Unless, of course, you consider getting a name, rank and serial number to be a successful interrogation session. The army has many interrogators, probably more than the CIA and until the Addington and Yoo came along and decided to muddy the waters about what was acceptable behaviour by Americans, Army, FBI and CIA interrogations were well within acceptable human rights standards and the geneva conventions.

Military spending in the USA isn't even the #2 item in the federal budget today, and if the Pentagon were to be demolished, every member of the armed forces discharged, all of the bases closed... or in effect the Department of Defense eliminated from the federal budget, there would be virtually no impact on overall federal spending.

That is completely false. Of the discretionary budget of ~1 trillion. $717 billion goes to military/national security. The Department of Defense gets 481 billion directly with 145 billion allocated separately for the wars in Iraq/Afghanistan. Demolishing the pentagon would have a huge impact on the federal spending and would reduce by at least 480 billion, but it would throw us into a major recession because so many jobs rely in the military industrial complex.

The overall budget is approximately 2.9 trillion but Social Security(608 billion), medicare (386 billion) and medicaid (202 billion) are paid for by separate taxes and are not discretionary spending.

I know it is not cool these days, but my father was self employed with 4 kids and we never had health insurance. If we went to the doctor or hospital, he just paid for it. Usually if you don't have insurance but are willing to pay, hospitals/doctors will work with you on price and payment plans. My brother who works for my dad now has two kids and no health insurance.

They tell you that health insurance will save you from catastrophes, but if you look at the numbers, roughly 70% of people who go bankrupt due to medical bills have health insurance. I believe, 70% is pretty close to the number of people who have health insurance. So, if you have a health catastrophe your probably fucked anyways.

Don't listen to me though, I am in the military. Although I have to say, FULL medical coverage for your entire family is NICE, but the lines can be long and seeing a specialist is a pain.

Agreed. I was hoping that Microsoft with their team of lawyers would be able to defend fair use type copyright law and it could become a precedent. From reading other posts it appears that this sharing thing will only be available with tracks that are purchased from or housed in Zune store. So, if an artist puts their song in the store then they agree to Microsoft's restrictions. (same as itunes) It was foolish and naive of me to think that Microsoft had not vetted this feature with their lawyers first.

However, I think this limitation on which songs you can share will be a real drag considering most of my music is on cds and probably won't be in the Zune store. Hopefully some enterprising individual will be able to put this wireless capability to good use by making it a little bit more free. Then I might pick up a Zune.

Oh yeah the RIAA are fucking bastards.

That is one of my beefs with this thing. The sharing feature facilitates copyright infringement. Ostensibly Microsoft has negotiated some sort of deal with the RIAA that allows Microsoft to let people copy music which is illegal unless specifically allowed by the copyright holder. Contrary to (the RIAA's) popular belief, the RIAA does not hold the rights to or represent everyone who holds the rights to every song ever written performed etcetera. So it seems that this "feature" would facilitate massive copyright infringement. Ive written and played a few songs, where do I sign up for some of this class action.
