I'm well aware of what the United States does to tourists, and I think its sick and utterly reprehensible. The reason that I think its right for me to ignore these laws is that I think its proper to ignore any laws that are patently nuts, and all of these are; in the US, Europe or anywhere else in the world. I don't attempt to change the burdensome immigration policies in the States because I think it amounts to re-arranging deck chairs on the titanic. The system is done for in the long run.
My "do not go here, crazy people" is essentially for countries like Sudan or Chad or Burma at the moment, ie, in some kind of horrible horrible strife.
Please don't mistake me for the stereotypical "ugly american". I don't even/own/ bermuda shorts =) I don't even understand how I came across as the ugly american, although I'm sorry I did. I'm sorry the US government is a bunch of stupid thugs, I think it's chronic and at this point irreversible.
The reason this makes me so sad is that I think the idea of borders/nations/states is a big hallucination and people are becoming more convinced of their "right" to keep people from moving wherever they want for any reason. Put simply, imho, the state or any government are simply mafias, nothing more, nothing less.
I'm sorry if I came across as arrogant, the point I was making was not "oh there go the europeans, I'm so glad I'm from the US!" it was "god dammit...the stupid is spreading...and I was hoping to emigrate to europe..."
I really hope this clears things up. I would apologize for the actions of the psychotic US government, but I stopped thinking of them as being linked to me in any way years ago, so moreso, I'm sorry we're both suffering from the same thugs.
Well if you burn your fingers on vacation then you're obviously trying to hide something from mommy-government. Of course there will be false negatives, arse-loads of them. They will, however, not get corrected because that would require these assclowns admitting they did something wrong. See, doing this with encryption keys, that might make an ounce of sense, but it doesn't help their real goal, which is and always has been control.
hurry up and die already. You're not going to save your aging business model now. You may not realize this, but you actually need your customers to NOT HATE YOU for them to pay for anything. Your strategy seems to be to make them hate you even more. Any idea why this isn't working?
Well thanks for stopping beating around the bush guys. "If we can't monitor everything it will result in terrorism" Well at least they're not mincing words anymore
great...a new war on a poorly defined noun, this will go well.
There's only one thing that can be done against any attacks in this vein, (and I don't trust a governmental analysis at all as a rule), and that is to tighten security on the defensive end. Trying to find and prosecute anybody is going to be a complete waste of time.
Oy...gives the politicians something to scare people with though, most of whom still think the word "hacker" means criminal...
those are all choices. that is different than being a slave.
You are taking something far too literally, even for someone on./ and then thinking that it somehow makes you clever.
All of the things you mentioned are choices, they are not compulsory. I make tradeoffs that I think make sense, such as pleasing my customers so they give me things in return. I enjoy being around my girlfriend, so I put up with things sometimes, I imagine she does the same thing. These are things that I am ok with and that I could stop if I wanted to; without having to be reliant on charity. I have lived in the woods in a cabin I built myself and survived just fine, so please don't presume to tell me that without a job or a business I would live on the charity of the government or others.
I have the insurance that I think makes sense. I enter a deal with them. You don't think I know that the money I pay in pays for others in the process? I think what you're not understanding here is the concept of a contract, explicit or implicit that one can either accept or reject. All of the things you have mentioned, job, business, insurance, girlfriend etc, those are all implicit or explicit contracts that I can enter and exit at will.
When I can't enter or exit these contracts at will, then I am someone's slave.
What this rests on is a difference in how we're defining things and you get so belligerent about it that you're telling me even sarcastically to go kill myself? Big chip you've got on your shoulder there...
put my post in context...read it again...and tell me if you/really/ think I was talking about the things you listed. You are (intentionally?) missing the point. I have a choice to have a job or not I have a choice of whether to be an entrepreneur (I happen to be one) I have some forms of insurance I have a girlfriend.
Think about whether I was talking about any of that.
I will not get one. I will continue leading my regular life. I will avoid airplanes if I must and get to my destination some other way. I will never carry one of these things. Their intent is evil. I would rather be dead than live my life as a slave, even a tiny bit.
Heh.
it's very true that things like various amendments/federal laws are head and shoulders worse than licensing. I think it's moreso that the level of bullshit has just gotten to a point where it all pisses me off equally.
It's very true that we're not alone in this bullshit, I wish we were, at least then others wouldn't have to deal with it.
Heh, I live in a place similar to the UK/Australia. It's just as bad, worse in some ways.
I definitely don't hate Americans. Most Americans I met are some of the most thoughtful interesting people I have ever encountered. I hate that it seems that the fire in their hearts is almost gone, flickering and just about to go out. The founders of the United States would be turning in their graves so much if they could see the current state of the US that they could solve the energy problem.
You mention that at the public level the people of the United States are fighting very hard. I do hope that is true and if so I would join you and help you in this fight.
Heh....let's not discuss the words that came out of my mouth when various laws such as patriot/military commissions act were passed.
Thank you for the response, it was tempering and filled me with hope that people still do care.
This is about as poorly thought through as Germany's "hacker tools" law (and the pending bill in the UK). US Legislators, fuck off. Fuck off and die. Have you checked your approval ratings lately? I wonder if spending your time on bullshit like this is why your approval ratings are so low. Here's a little plan. 1. Impeach bush/cheney and basically most of the executive branch. 2. repeal the PATRIOT act, military commissions act et al 3. stop the NSA spying Where to go from there (ie, increasing social programs, ridding the nation of the IRS) is widely dependent on one's particular views However, at least imho, until 1-3 above are accomplished, no one will see you as anything but a bunch of idiot shmucks. If you're not going to get on 1-3, please hurry up with the fucking off and dying.
If this works there's a good chance that sleep won't become optional, it will become a dream. Computers promised the same thing, paperless office, more productivity, but they brought their own issues. I love computers, don't get me wrong, but the fact remains that the promise of lots more leisure time was an empty promise. Free time will be filled with more work to do. In a world where sleep is optional, some people will be willing to work 20 hours a day or more. Slowly, this will become expected.
This tech is here to stay; trying to change that would just be silly. If, as posters above have said, this isn't really a sleep replacement then it's only a matter of time, the tech will come. Some people will try to call it "unnatural" or "evil", it won't make a difference. The question is, how will you react when it happens and you're asked to come in for an 18 hour workday instead of your normal 8-12 to "stay competitive". Is it that crazy of an idea that maybe people should/relax/ with their freetime instead of adding work?... *sadly goes off and reads a book*
I'd want a heads up display of network activity somewhere. Maybe a big widescreen LCD, 50"? Actually...I'd say I needed two and then use one for movies, those noise cancelling headphones? they also work great as movie headphones =)
That's because the DEA doesn't really care about stopping drugs. They care about getting some guy, even if the is #137 on the totem pole, to justify their extravagant funding (any amount over $0 is extravagant).
the govt wants whatever they're paid to want

Where that thinking breaks down is when the country you're visiting trades that data you gave them for information on its own citizens.

so, I'm just checking here,
is it ok to start shooting the bastards now?
Great...no its on my "Do not go here - Fascism" list
When you add that to my "do not go here, crazy people" list I basically can visit.....Bermuda?
Stupid world...beautiful things barred from me because...
wait a minute...
if I ignore all of these stupid laws.
hell yes

The last sentence says it all.
only having 12 people allowed to do computer forensics for a living is probably more of a bad thing than a good thing...

democracy and republicanism are both broken systems just as much as the current crypto-fascist system
I think you have the way things should be (free elections) confused with the way things are (rigged elections)
How am I supposed to try and keep my irises private if they can be read without my knowledge?!
What am I supposed to do? Get tin-foil-sunglasses?
I think you're confusing how things are supposed to be with how they actually are.
That's because the DEA doesn't really care about stopping drugs. They care about getting some guy, even if the is #137 on the totem pole, to justify their extravagant funding (any amount over $0 is extravagant).

oh wow...that's horrid. You're on the dole whether you want it or not...
The more you tighten your grip, mafiaa, the more potential customers will slip through your fingers.
