I think that it's a good idea, but users won't be switching soon. The only thing that might encourage users to switch to the power providers is if they can provide a way better plan, or they just want the convenience of paying it off on their power bill.
I completely concur. I hate regularly getting 30mbit/s (approx 3.8mb/s) transfer rates, and unlimited downloads (28gb in 17 days, no end in sight here), with no excess charges. The only thing I could possibly complain about is that the connection is asyncronous, I have a 128kbit/s upload, but since I have a web/ftp/mail/mysql server over in Texas, I'm not going without anything important.
Living in the best country in the world, I'm glad to see Telstra privatised and demonopolised. This means that if they provide me with shitty service, they've got to either win me back, or lose me to a better plan from Optus or TPG or something else. Although I'm quite happy with my cable plan, which is roughly 30mbit/s and unlimited download (dloaded 28gb this month)
I've found I rule. As does my copy of Microsoft Visual Studio.NET 2003 Enterprise Architect. Bye bye Kate and XFree and G++, you all suck. Hello XP and decent software.
It's not a bad idea on behalf of Microsoft, and they're taking a lot more of a proactive approach to security than the goddamn open source community. Windows has only racked up around 750 exploits in the National Vunerability Database (covered recently on/.), whereas Linux has a shocking 1000+ exploits, mostly of moderate to high severity, yet we still get shit from the open source community about flaws in Windows. STFU and go use Kate and G++, I've got VS.NET 2003 Enterprise Architect and an MSDN subscription.
Stupid linux n00bs, you suck. Nobody cares about open source, for these reasons:
1) It sucks
2) It sucks
3) It's bullshit*
4) See 1
*I was down in Canberra recently (in time for LinuxConf), and after running around insulting me for using Windows, some moronic Linux user put his money ($0) where his mouth was, and decided to show me how 'stable' and 'secure' Debian was. Not only did it crash 9 times in the 7 days he tried to show it to me (and *all* 9 times you couldn't restart X, reload X, go to console then restart X etc, these were major lockup reboot crashes), Firefox wouldn't start 3/4 of the time, and in the end the network went down via a security flaw in Apache. Damn right they're switching to Microsoft, they own.
Watch the backlash here.
Macs suck. Who would actually write code for them?
And in conclusion:
"Recent study shows Mac users are often more educated than Pc users"
that's because any idiot can use a PC
but it takes an art degree to use a mac:D
These figures are hellishly exaggerated. I've downloaded Firefox 12 times already. Through in the Opera-cache claim and you end up with Firefox Usage = Bullshit.

No doubt the /. eds are fans of open source. Never see cockups like this on the MS site, unless they're updating it.

I can afford an MSDN Subscription. I have IE7 beta. Do you linux n00bs have it?
I rule. I have IE7 beta, because I can afford MSDN. Linux n00bs can't. Ha.
I rule.
I was born in Australia, you tard.
South Africa sucks. I'm glad I live in the best country in the world -> Australia. I get 30mbit/s cable for $60/month. No limits. Suck it America.
He's right, I hate Linux. I use XPSP2, IE7 and VS.NET 2003, and nothing the OSS community can produce comes close.
It's funny because I download at 32mbit/s
But i've probably already been posted ahead of. :(.
