From the official forums and WoW:TBC FAQ:
Will I need to install from the CD? Why?
It will be necessary to have a Burning Crusade CD and a Burning Crusade authentication key in order to play The Burning Crusade expansion. There is content on the Burning Crusade CD that will need to be installed that was not included in the patches we recently released. Each account (in the event multiple are played by one person) will need its own copy of The Burning Crusade expansion to install the additional content, and be upgraded with the included authentication key.
Whenever I see the EA logo or see "EA" my first thought is: "Mmmmmmm.....Archon." In fact, EA hasn't left me with any other memories since....jeez....1983.
One thing about the primitive methods you bring up is that the ability to transfer the info is tedious and slow, and therefore not done often. However, a lot of the information on old computers from 1966 would have been transfered over and over as technology changed and got better.
If it is anything like the XP Activation I don't think there is a big problem. You won't have to buy a new license if you upgrade your MB twice.
I have done so with XP, and while the internet activation fails, I call the 800 number. I explain that I upgraded. The girl with the hard to understand accent asks how many PCs is this copy of windows currently installed on. I say, "One," and she gives me the code.
I am assuming it will be similar for Vista.
Of the ~10,000 mp3s and the like I have on my computer, I have only bought 3 songs online. The rest were burned from CDs or picked up through friends, limewire, whatever.
Shortly after buying those 3 songs, I had a HD crash. I hadn't yet backed those songs up. No prob. The iTunes music store should have a record of my purchase and I should have no problem re-downloading those songs that I purchased a license to, right? WRONG. You lose them, they are gone. You have to buy them again if you want to download them.
This was a year or so ago. Don't know if it is different now. The only songs I download from iTunes are the 2 weekly free ones....if I like them.
I use it only for unimportant things, like fictional lore. I have enjoyed reading Warcraft lore, Wheel of Time lore, etc. I would never right a term paper using "facts" from there, though.
I'm pretty sure the typo was "downgrade" It should read "upgrade"
We robots have been here for a while. PAK CHOOIE UNF
If they only knew that the Z Machine could do more than run their text adventure games they might still be in business.
When I was 12, the Boy Scouts taught me to triangulate my position with a map and a compass. Oh, and something to draw the lines with.
My late dog, Rover (may he rest in peace), had his head explode when my sister put on a Mariah Carey CD.
Using light? I've had a lot of professors that seemed to be able to shut down brains using sound. Generally their own voice was sufficient.
They are selling for $6000 to the Army. They pay that much for spoons, etc. We could probably buy it for $20.
