No one needs to catch up. That is silly. What people need is to figure out how to build a basic functioning society that is self-sustaining.

Now, I will not get into the issues as to why some cultures can't provide for themselves (too controversial for me to get into). However, I believe that the best effort would be to get these people on their own foot. Humans have done this for hundreds of thousands of years without laptops and industrial facilities.

It is some sort of perverted and twisted ideal in my mind, to assume that we need to continue to perpetuate and spread a globalist culture of technology worship to people to "save" them.

How exactly is copying akin to stealing? I ask this every time and all I get are these flawed analogies that don't make sense. Copying != Stealing.

The problem with your suggestion is that the media cartels are so powerful that its hard to bypass them. As an artist, you can choose to go with some minor publishing house, but fuck if you're ever going to get your music in the big stores or played on any of the media conglomerates's brodcasting (TV/FM).

Music and any other form of non-tangible easily reproduces media is something that no longer can be monopolized by media houses (be it the opera house, theatre, book publishers, etc). The average person can obtain the media with almost no effort. The interests the RIAA and MPAA represent are dated and quickly becoming obsolete. They are trying to sue their way out of oblivion. Rightly, as you say, they are being ripped off by a changing paradigm. It is their last gasp of free air. Media is something that can be massed consumed and the concept of having to pay for it seems illogical now.

Artists are slowly starting to find new and better ways to reach their fans and make a living off of grateful audiences who, while not willing to be gouged by the RIAA for $15+ CDs, are willing to go the extra mile to see support their favorite artists.

I used to tolerate the rediculous eBay fees. Then they implemented a policy where if you accept PayPal, you have to accept credit cards. Which means you have to have a Premiere Account (or whatever it is called). If someone sent you a payment requesting to pay with a credit card, you were forced to accept it and upgrade your account or face being in violation of their policy.

If you tried to restrict forms of payment in the auction terms, your auctions got pulled.

I cancelled my account and when asked for a reason, told them that this policy is greedy and heavy handed. Their canned reply was that it "protects the community" (from what?).

You can't make much money from eBay these days due to the insane double dipping of fees and the ever-increasing amount of those fees.

The truth is that most people who brag about having some sort of security clearance is that they have a very low-level clearance.

Somehow the idea that someone with high level security clearance posts on Slashdot and brags about it seems silly to me to the point that I will not believe they know anything useful at all.

The real problem is the low quality of the healthy choices. These choices are usually farmed out to the lowest bidder of processed food suppliers, suppliers who don't care about making quality tasty food, just food that meets whatever mandated requirements of nutrition (and I am not sure what those requirements actually are most of the time).

I've been through several different school systems in Texas, as a student, and I've seen how pitiful our school lunches are. They're disgusting! Our parents (assuming you had good parents too) knew how to make wholesome food made out of quality natural ingredients that was not unhealthy or excessively fatty, sugary, and etc.

The most likely reason is that the government has to pay for quite a large number of these lunches to provide free meals, therefore the "standard" lunch is what we see today.
