  1. Re:Please correct me if I'm wrong on Stem Cell Bill Passes in Australia · · Score: 1

Correct, the ban is only for federally funded stem cell research. Problem with that is 90% of research is, in some way, federally funded. Universities for example. If the school gets any money from the government they can't use any of that for stem cell research. And it's not as simple as some might think to separate the funds. How do you pay professors? That photocopier in the common area? If any federal funds were used to purchase it, you can't even use it to make a photocopy. The alternative is to setup a separate company. Who do you think will benefit from the discoveries to be made? The public, or pharmaceutical companies? Personally, I'm surprised I haven't heard any conspiracy theories about pharmaceutical companies supporting the ban to stifle competition from other sectors.

That's true for just about anyone who is involved in legislation that can stop spam. Except for their home email account, they are probably ignorant of what the real world is like.

I understood it as an annoyance of "A-list" celebs doing voice work where they sound like themselves but play the part of a character. There's an art to doing voice work and just because you can act and convey emotion with your voice does not make you a good voice actor. Some can, but not many. In my own opinion, if you can identify the voice actor before you see the credits, they failed. Take a movie like Ice Age. Ray Romano as Manfred? I enjoyed it, but I kept expecting to see his brother Robert (Brad Garrett) show up as some giraffe like animal. John Leguizamo as Sid however, was excellent. Then look at Billy West. Philip J. Fry/Dr. John Zoidberg/Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth/Captain Zapp Brannigan. You can watch a scene from Futurama with all four characters in it, and unless you knew Billy West did all four voices you wouldn't be able to tell. /On that note, my least favorite Futurama voice is Leela. I like Katey Sagal, but everytime I hear her voice I think "Married With Children"

Don't quote me on this, but I seem to recall that in some areas it's technically illegal to even buy a computer with no OS installed (on the assumption that if you aren't buying one you must be a pirate)

In the past, I would have just downloaded a copy of XP, hacked it, and figured everything was fine since she had that hologram sticker on the case. What do I do now? Tell her to go out and buy a second copy of XP? (PS- She insists she never received the CD and the university won't make her a copy since they consider all copying to be piracy)
