You are saying you've been impacted by a tax with a $2,000,000 deductible? I certainly hope you aren't expecting anyone to feel sorry for you that you have that much money and have to pay taxes on it. I'd feel sorry for you. But then I guess someone's got to fund the war in Iraq and it definitely isn't the poor.
Likewise there is nothing forcing the US movie and music industry to sell in markets that don't follow the rules. Um, yes there is, the biggest thing possible - $$$$$.
If MS doesn't want an Office for Apple, big deal. It's within their right to drop support for an OS that's losing them money, especially if it would drum up business for their OS. That's just good business sense.
I concur, for the desktop at least. I used to run Redhat on my desktop until version 9 support ended. After that I gave Ubuntu a try and haven't looked back. I still prefer Redhat-style administration on my servers, which run either RH ES, Fedora or CentOS.
If I could pay more for cable that doesn't have advertisements, you better believe I would order it right away. If this were an option that could be ordered, nobody would be able to afford it. Who do you think pays for the content on TV and cable?
Brilliant, too bad you can't by a decent VHS player to view them on. And I don't want a dual VHS-DVD player either - unless it was a DVD recorder and I could copy stuff to DVD. Hmmm... Time to do some research.
If they ever produce an OS that everyday people could use without a huge learning curve and partner with software developers to ensure all applications on the Windows platform are available on their platform. Wait, this sounds a lot like what Linux needs to take over on the desktop OS front. I guess the answer is obvious then, no, they could not take the place of Microsoft.
No manual entry for tmpwatch Give google a try. In any case, most installs of Linux (or at least the ones I've used - CentOS, RedHat, Fedora) have a cron job for tmpwatch enabled. Ubuntu unfortunately only cleans/tmp after a reboot.
Wasn't a 30 second ad during the superbowl $1 mil? $2 mil for almost a weeks worth of prime time exposure definitely is a steal! But what's going to happen to the guys who got arrested for the whole incident? What kind of future will they have? Or were they just collateral damage?
The most common OS in the world is still Windows, the most popular is Linux. Windows knocked out Apple over a decade ago, they only have Linux to contend with in the OS market now.
"Dumbasses", Good thing they didn't come across a Loonie or Toonie!
This bill should be thrown out quicker than a used tampon.
When did the US think it WAS the technology king?? In the 60s and 70s perhaps?
Stone tablets are the only way to go. The big man had the write idea putting the 10 commandments on them.
Not sure what she drove but apparently the Honda Insight can do 1500 miles.
Slap me silly and mod me flamebait but the replies to this article can be used as samples as to how nerdy half the subscribers on Slashdot really are.
We don't make the same mistakes the US does. We learn from them, laugh, and move on.

Damn marketers and their commercials! They led some of us to believe that Ikea was swedish for common sense.
That doesn't make any ikea! (Note: Ikea is swedish for 'common sense')
And then along came YUM, which eliminated RPM dependency hell. Greatest update/software manager since Redhat's up2date.
