I work for a semiconductor company. I for one have a great time referring to "Silicone" in meetings. The funny thing is that no one has ever corrected me.
"You've got room to move when you can see a bigger picture," Stocks said. "When you have (multiple) people playing on a small TV screen, you can't tell what's going on."
This is true. Only since getting my projector has 4 player split screen gaming become practical. Nobody bitches when every player gets 50" of screen area.
Well, the Windows NT kernel was originally written targetting an Intel i860 RISC chip. It has been ported to Alpha (by Microsoft), PowerPC (CHRP), MIPS, x86, IA64, and now AMD64. Obviously not in the league of *nix ports, but that isn't the point. Microsoft obviously hires and retains many highly intelligent people (and then shackles them to the company line). Whether they have the expertise in house to write RISC code is a debate only to the ignorant.
Sony is encouraging folks to use Linux on the PS2 because they want to break into the lucrative productivity PC market (their PCs don't count to them because they give some of that money to Microsoft). Microsoft wants the EXACT opposite scenario. Make no mistake, however: neither one is a benevolent ruler. Both are huge, faceless corporations that would just as soon eat you as treat you fairly. Product loyalty to either one is like the worm picking the prettiest bird.
I did read it. Something is wrong with the computer. You cobbled it together from garbage, reading down. I would venture a guess that you could have problems with any distro on it too.
None of that is an issue for me, especially given that we are both apparently proletariat. My issue was that you knew the computer was garbage and STILL spouted stereotypical FUD that makes our community look stoopid. Stability, of course, is an inherent trait on an open system in which you can customize running processes to the hilt, but debasing the competition in such a silly way just makes you easy to ignore.
That said, I wish you luck in your job search and admire your desire to learn other systems.
You shouldn't be administering any server without the proper knowledge. Any system which crashes regularly has something wrong with it which is your problem to fix. Windows, BSD, Linux, or Palm: misconfiguation == doom.
I didn't mean that to be impugning your abilities, but consider it.
The usual is in fact not downscaled (at least from my sources). Do you think that you can accurately portray a 19.8 mbit stream with a 2? The source is already compressed. If you beat that 5:1 (as with ripped DVD), you are still at 8 GB file size. If you have a television nice enough to view native HD content, then you have a nice enough TV to see the difference between a high bitrate and low bitrate source.
Besides, if you downscale HD content, it is no longer (H)igh (D)efinition, is it? Just get the standard resolution material and cease the discussion if that is the case.
They will need more bitrate to hold the extra data that comes with the extra definition. And you need about 6.5 GB or more for a 2 hour HD XVID. I have one 4.1 GB, and it is compressed as hell (looks terrible).
Also, slavery was legal and constitutional at our nation's inception. It was not, however, moral. So people who knew it illegal and helped slaves escape were criminals and heros.
Modding my XBOX allowed me to clean out my cluttered entertainment center. Took out ALL of my older consoles and replaced 'em with the box. Very nice. I still have 4 jammed in there, but I still buy my games.
On an aside, buy Ninja Gaiden A.S.A.P. Best (and hardest) game I have played in a long time despite the shitty camera.
Damnable Microso+keyboard4.
In summation: meetings are boring.
Yes, Ales, I'll take poorly formatted messages for a thousand.
Well put. It is idealogues who are incapable of changing their positions that got us in this position in the first place.
You need to quit sucking the cock of the GOP. To say that Kerry wouldn't do anything is just crap, akin to saying Bush == Hitler.

Isn't that how it always goes in any society?
Me too. I haven't moderated in at least 4 years. I don't know why.
Actually quarter screen displays work quite well at 100". Still a bit distracting, but not so bad. :)

Is that 4 hex or decimal?
Sorry. I just had a coworker ask me if a value of 1 was 1 binary or 1 hex. I don't yet regret killing him.
Man, that is too harsh rereading it. I need to unplug.

I concur. I wasn't aware we were arguing the same opinion, and were on topic. ^_^

Plus the SH4 has a 16 bit instruction set. Mull that over a while...
Rather than turn your PC into a console, just buy an XBOX.
Peanut butter and catsup.
Chocolate and sweet pickles.
Microsoft and OSS.
Intelligence and slashdot.
etc.
Bravo. And I saw it here today.

I didn't get WGN on my Dish Networks contract. My kids dig on Pokemon, so I called them. Adding the single channel was $1.95. No big deal.
The "natural environment" in line at the dmv is a majestic thing to behold. You, sir, have missed this point.
My point exactly. Thank you.
