    The best way to avoid getting shot is to avoid gun-free zones, where nearly all mass-shootings in the past several decades have occurred.

    Another great way to avoid being shot is to choose not to live in a city with strict gun control laws, like Chicago, Baltimore, and others, where only the criminals carry guns and have virtually no fear of stumbling onto an armed citizen.

  2. Ok, let me see if I got this:

    I open a shop (1), designed to organize (2) folks to commit a crime (3), and I install a video camera that records the face and outfit of everyone that enters the store (4) and another that records the outfit of every customer that engages in the crime wore (5).

    The state canâ(TM)t seek a copy of the video tapes of everyone walking into the store and everyone that committed the crime to rstablish who committed the crime? Proof of them entering the store is not proof of a crime, so their mere entry into the store isnâ(TM)t a punishable offense. But the two tapes together establish commission of the crime by the face associated with outfit.

    What are those numbers about?

    (1) the shop, like the website is public
    (2) the website was built to share ideas and coordinate violent protests
    (3) protesting isnâ(TM)t a crime, but violent, property-destructing protests are
    (4) the IP log if the visitors to the website, which may be correlated with the
    (5) user discussions to tie user-ids to IP addresses of those visitors that engaged ina criminal conspiracy to engage in violent protest.

    Google has announced that after 10 years a carbon-neutral company, it will be able to brag running on entirely renewable energy at the end of 2017.

    Why didn't Google wait until they actually were 100% powered by green energy? Now, after pre-announcing a future accomplishment, if/when it does happen it will not be as noteworthy. It's kind like when your friends tell you they are going to have a baby, and you congratulate them - only to find out all they meant was that she was going off contraceptives and they plan on having more purposeful sex in the immediate future...

    I'm guessing that the number goes up sharply on weekends, when public libraries have reduced hours or are closed entirely.

    Shorter hours for the public library is the result of taxpayer choices - if the community wanted the libraries open all weekend, they would simply raise taxes and do it.

    In my neighborhood school, the kids start using Chromebooks in 3rd grade, and they now teach touch typing instead of cursive writing.

    Burying power mains is ungodly expensive compared to above ground, and it takes much longer to install - how much longer should Puerto Ricans wait to get electricity and how much more will they be willing to pay for that electricity?

    I believe the process is the territory petitions Congress, who votes on the statehood request.

    There has never been, AFAIK, a resounding vote in favor of statehood for Puerto Rico by the Puerto Ricanâ(TM)s.

    To what, picture-based coding? When exactly did expressing complex ideas in words become old-fashioned?

    Computer-generated code has been around for a very, very long time - even if you ignore that that is what assemblers and compilers do for the moment, I've seen many tools where a user chooses actions from a menu and code is created. I once worked for a fairly successful company that had an in-house tool that generated VB code based on user inputs.

    they can charge, and then swap.

    You want them to drive Tesla power walls all around the island, charging them up like so many nicad batteries?

    They will have a third of these powerwalls in transit to and from the functioning generators at any given time.

    BTW, How long does it take to charge a powerwalls?

    We should be sending flotillas of ships and boats with supplies (water, food and medical supplies) anywhere along the coast where ships and supply boats can dock, or even using beaches where possible.

    Of course, there are amazingly few places where ships/boats can dock in Puerto Rico post-hurricane - but hey, doesnâ(TM)t it feel good to rail against âthe manâ(TM)...

    No.

    Were the 3,000 containers on the dock awaiting pickup on the dock taken away?

    No.

    Has the mayor of San Juan bothered to attend relief meetings with federal officials?

    No.

    Moved how, exactly?
    On what roads, exactly?
    On the back of what trucks, exactly?
    Charged where, exactly?

    Puerto Rico was broke before the hurricane hit, now Tesla is exploiting their desperation by shipping them âhundredsâ(TM) of expensive battery packs...

    If it was important to the station owners, they wouldn't have messed up the license renewals.

    But WAPA's signal coverage was significantly cut in March 2017 when the FCC refused to renew the license for synchronous AM booster stations at Arecibo, Mayaguez and Aguadilla in March due to procedural issues with the petition for renewal.

    They messed up the paperwork, the gov't merely expected the station to follow the rules...

    This decision limited the coverage, signal strength and signal quality of this station for remote and mountainous parts of Puerto Rico where the need for emergency communications is greatest.

    This so-called "decision" was not, in fact, a decision, it was in fact the the result of failing to follow the legal process of requesting a renewal six months before the hurricane hit the island - nothing more.

    There are great swaths of this country that don't have mass transit infrastructures of any kind, pretending they do won't change that, and since we are talking about California and driving vs. flying, the scope of the discussion is places within driving distance from California.

    The basis of the original comment was that the cost to fly was lower, my argument is that once you land, transportation is a non-trivial problem in many major US cities. Sure, in certain areas the mass transit system is wonderful, but outside a few major metropolitan areas our mass transit system in the US is lacking. Europe is a different matter, but then again, comparing drive time/cost from CA to Denmark versus flying is a pointless argument. Cabs, buses, Ubers, Lyfts, etc are all great, but add to the cost of the flying option.

  25. Splitting 53 pounds of greenhouse gasses across 200 passengers gives you a quarter pound per passenger mile... how does that compare to the greenhouse gasses generated per mile in a 20 mpg automobile?
