But somewhere along the course of reading the article, I got the impression that he wasn't writing it for professional developers (at least, smart ones), but for people relatively new to programming. You'd be surprised. I work with a number of alleged professional developers (at least, they have degrees and have been doing it for years) that think "// increment X by one" is a useful comment.
However I believe that spamming should not be a crime. In the grand scheme of things... robbing someone is much worse. I struggled with it a bit, but eventually came to think that spamming/is/ robbery. You are stealing time and money. Time because every mass spam mailing results in a million+ people who have to spend a second each deleting that email. Money because of the money that people and companies spend for various spam blocking or intercepting services. It's not simply a matter of punishing someone for inconveniencing people -- it's punishment for actual theft of resources.
Why?
Borders are an artificial invention of the industrial era. Do you always just make up your facts from scratch, or is this a special occasion? Either that, or you are SERIOUSLY misinformed as to the timing and duration of the industrial era...
When will people learn that spying on your children is not a replacement for good parenting? The fact that there's actually a demand for this sort of thing is depressing. It's not a replacement for it, but it is an essential part of it. If you want to look at it without the emotionally-charged words, you could call it "being aware of what your child is doing".
Dell Windows computers come with a program that updates some of the Dell crapware. I've heard this updater has recently starting installing new crapware without user confirmation. Curious if there's anything to substantiate this? I have a dell myself, but the first thing I do is reformat it with the 'clean' OS (and uninstall the extra crap that comes even on that disk).
Look, I love firefox, but I can't really think of anything wrong with regular-ass bookmarks. I have no idea why they need to be in a database of any sort. This seems like a bloat feature to me. 1. database is already in the system (FF2), so there's nothing new being added.
2. code is being removed because much of the old bm management portion is slimmed down as a result of using this new storage mechanism
3. And most important, this doesn't change how bookmarks work for you. You hit Ctrl+D, optionally enter more information, and the site is bookmarked. Given 1 & 2, 3 means that you'll still have your "regular-ass bookmarks"
What's pathetic is that on almost every article lately, I see people replying to a first or early post with something that is completely unrelated simply to get noticed by the mods. And what's more pathetic is that the mods reward them for it.
That goes double, or triple, for Dell laptops. I've never seen so much sh*t installed on them. It started appearing about 2 months ago, and despite contacting various account reps, they have no idea what I'm bitching about. Very few of the programs uninstall cleanly, either. If it started 'appearing' two months ago on a laptop you purchased before then, it very likely has nothing to do with Dell, and quite possibly more to do with the things you're picking up/installing yourself (albeit inadvertently).
Doesn't "bang" imply success, and therefore, not going out?
- RG> For a brief period, I had a Treo 650. Once I got my replacement Blackberry, the Treo went out the window, and I do believe it made a bang as it hit a passing car.
1: We all know how quickly the law works... Talk about a bottleneck.

Don't forget some people are more capable than others, I openly admit I have texted while driving, but I can do it without looking at the cellphone at all. 1. Do you have a sixth sense that allows you to read the reply without looking at the screen? Holding the screen up in front of your face so that you don't "take your eyes off the road" doesn't count. You still stop watching the road -- it's impossible not to as you shift in focus from dozens or more meters down to centimeters then back again.
2. I've observed people who make that exact claim first hand. And you know what? They look at the phone. They don't think they are for some reason, but they do.
Now maybe you really are better than the other people who are absolutely convinced that they're performing their acts of blatant stupidity in complete safety. But you'll have to excuse me if I don't believe it.
It kind of bugs me that these "skeptics" like Randi will go after these two-bit hucksters, but not touch the real frauds selling organized religion to suckers.
Do you really think that the world would be better off without religion? Many people -- those not so enlightened as you clearly are -- need the idea of a religion to give their life meaning. These people are not bad folks, they're doing the best they can to make for themselves and their fellow man to make sure they reach their reward in the afterlife.
There's nothing wrong with atheism either, but you do it a disservice when you spend your time and energy spouting your hatred of religion. Did it ever occur to you that trying to force atheism onto people who are quite happy with their beliefs is as repugnant to them as you would find it if they tried to convert you to their religion?
People have their beliefs for good or ill. Trying to force them to change their beliefs to suit your purposes (whether it be for worship of the god Logic, or worship of God, or just because you're feeling sadistic) is just obnoxious in either case.
here in Russia, you can buy a 5 digit ICQ number for 600 rubles ($20). In that case, shall I post my credit card number here for you to process my request?
OR some other similar service. When are sites going to learn that we CAN protect out privacy if the force us too. You catch more flies with honey... I did use bugmenot until very recently. I came to the realization that it was just silly, at least for me. Revealing the articles I like is a more-than-reasonable price to pay for the news and information on the Times site, which does cost them considerable time and money to maintain.

He's a publicity figure, not normal at all, not supposed to be.
I worked with a scientologist once, wouldn't know anything was wrong till I mentioned Xenu (WOW!)

I actually have both - a comcast dvr and a Windows Media center. The only reason I have the comcast box is for HD - I havent upgraded the MC for that yet.
But thats exacly why I keep it - versatility and upgradability. If i need more space I can add another hard drive. I can add another tuner. I can play mp3s on it. I can do casual web surfing on my couch.
Try doing any of that on the cable co provided box. Honestly, I have no desire to surf or play mp3s from my couch -- or more correctly, when I do, I use my laptop as it's far more comfortable than trying to accomplish something from halfway across the room. Although it would be nice to have a single shared repository for recorded video which I could easily expand, it's not really an option for me unless I can also receive premium & hd content.
(Though for all the times I flip through the premium movie channels and find nothing of interst, I could save myself a lot of money by just disabling them anyway...;)
Even more reason to build a MythTV box.. Because mythtv lets me get all of the premium cable channels, right? And the same amount of HD content that I am paying for now? I can do those things through cable, but last I checked I would be restricted to basic cable and broadcast if I used MythTV...
(I actually hope I am wrong, that would be very cool -- but I kind of doubt it.)
If I want to fast forward through commercials, I'll use my comcast PVR (or even Cox, were I a customer of theirs) to record it and watch it later. So far, I'm seeing no practical argument for switching to MythTV...
Whatever you have, it's catching

Irony is your friend. Heh - and overrated and offtopic, I'm on a roll! Frankly, offtopic is what I would have expected to get in the first place.

It was a joke -- well, the rusting part of it was, anyway

I wonder why it's colored red, too. Is it just to make people feel better, or did all the iron atoms start to rust...

Which is the proper breakdown of your name: "Bad Ass Cat" or "Bad As Scat"?
What an unfortunate waste. Thanks for clarification.
