IANAL, but as I understand it, you are given more leeway when your speach involves a public figure. If you print something untrue and defamatory about John Doe, he can sue you. But if you publish something untrue about a politician (or any public figure), he has to prove malicious intent. There was a libel case sometime in the past couple of years where it had to be decided if a company executive was a public figure or not. It was decided that he was not, so he could sue the publication.

I had the opposite reaction. At first, I was suprised that he would be involved in one of those sleazy search pages. You know, the ones where you type popularwebsite.com instead of popularwebsite.net and you find several useful links to gambling, porn, and viagra. If I had come across that page on my own, I would've written it off as just another one of those moron traps. Upon further inspection, it doesn't seem to link to any porn or gambling, but their advertisers certainly do. I still can't figure out what it's purpose is. So, Jimmy was right to correct that error in his bio, but I can also understand the original editor's mistake in classifying it as a porn site.

And guess what, the McDonalds in my small US town will also bring your food to your table if it's not ready right away. I've seen this at a few other fast food joints too. This means nothing other than that particular store's manager cares about running the place and the kids who work there aren't too retarded.

High concentrations of oxygen won't combust, it's the lower-middle concentrations (especially mixed with certain other chemicals) you have to watch for.

I believe you're confusing oxygen with a fuel. Oxygen won't combust at all. But putting a solid or liquid fuel in contact with pure oxygen and an ignition source is a recipe for disaster. It's true that if the oxygen concentration were to reach such a high level that all other flammable gasses present were below their LFL the mixture wouldn't burn, but that wouldn't make the situation safe because a more concentrated fuel source could be introduced and you'd have a huge fireball on your hands.

I assume you're referring to mercury. Mercury is found in all fluorescent light bulbs, and it is legal for consumers to dispose of fluorescent bulbs in the garbage. A broken fluorescent bulb should be taken seriously and thoroughly cleaned up immediately, but you don't exactly have to call in a hazmat team. As for the "mercury vapor" mentioned in the article, I don't know what he's talking about. Mercury has a very low vapor pressure at room temperature. Seigenthaler is such a stupid whiney bitch. The article didn't actually say he was known to have been involved in the assassinations, it just said that for a certain period, he was suspected of involvement. Chances are, that is factually correct, since everybody and their sister has been suspected in the Kennedy assasinations by someone. Anyone that would use such a vague reference with no sources for anything is a moron. You don't see the Whitehouse throwing a hissyfit everytime some dork replaces the content of the G.W. First, the Chinese government sees all religious groups in their country as a threat to the government and, by extension, to the people. Are they right in supressing all religious expression? Second, the professor's comments were very coarsely worded and referred to "fundies" and "their big fat faces". Not all religious fundamentalists are trying to destroy the educational system. Comments such as his could offend Christians even if they were opposed to the recent educational reforms. It would seem the majority of his department agrees with me since they asked him to step down.
