For the love of god tell me how! (or at least give me some URLs for more information) I'm moving to the top of a mountian (well actually a foothill) that is 11 miles from the nearest CO. No DSL, no Cable Internet, etc. My Verizon PCMCIA card works....at less than 56K. DirectTV internet works as well, but both are VERY high latency and I think that running SSH over such connections is banned under international treaty (or it should be). I'be been looking at old 900Mhz wireless network gear, combined with high gain antennas and max allowed output to see if I can get a connection to somewhere with actual broadband.
I've also looked at the lower 700Mhz licensed band, but that seems to be pretty expensive for a SOHO setup.
Some URLs or search terms for Google would be helpful.
Cell phone companies require a contract to get the cheap phone AND to get the cheap rates. Verizon let me add a previously owned phone to my existing Verizon account, then extended my contract by 2 years and will charge me $250 per phone (even the 2nd hand one) to cancel before the end of my contract term. They didn't bother to make this clear at the time I added the 2nd phone.
As far as I can tell the only way to avoid this is to go with pre-pay service and put up with the higher rates.
In fact NO carrier that I have talked to would allow me to add a phone that I have purchased without at least requireing a 1-year contract.
If your costs go up, it's not price gouging to pass that increase on to the customer. It's only illegal when your costs do NOT go up and you jack up the prices.
we also had the option of asking the platoon medics for stimulants. I don't remember what the name of the drug was, but one little white pill kept you up and alert for about two days. You did crash pretty hard after that.
I think it's called Crystal Meth. Well, I'm sure they don't call it that....
"GHB is considerably less harmful to you than many patented drugs (including some over the counter drugs), but was made illegal in the US and the EU. As you have natural GHB in your brain, being attached to your head can now count as possession."
My problem with GHB is that the EFFECTIVE dose is not all that much lower than the dose that KILLS you (when compared to many other drugs). This means that it's easy to overdose. When was the last time you heard of someone overdosing on weed? For weed the effective dose is much, much, much smaller than the dose that will kill you. This is a good thing.
Then again, so many of us want the kind of "cradle-to-grave" care our government has evolved into providing.
What govt are you talking about? Not the USA govt. In fact the LACK of "cradle to grave" care is one of the major problems in the USA. We have no socialiazed health care. People can only get 7 years of welfare in their entire life. Social Security is not enough to live on. I can go on and on.
Maybe you meant "cradle to grave" care for corporations?
Seriously, CDMA is the most widely used mobile phone technology in North America. It's used by at least four major carriers I've heard of (Sprint, Verizon, Alltel, and Virgin Mobile), and probably a bunch of smaller ones I haven't. You can transfer phones between carriers in many cases - I'm not sure about the others, but Verizon doesn't lock the phones they sell or lock other carriers' phones from being activated on their network.
Try it sometime. I have been able to activate a used Verizon phone on my Verizon "Family Share" plan with Verizon, but they STILL required a 1-year or 2-year contract with a $250 cancelation fee. Every carrier I've talked to will refuse to give you decent rates without a contract.
In fact, I spoke with Cingular Wireless a few weeks ago. I asked them: "If I have a Cingular Prepaid service [you buy the phone] and want to switch to monthly service will I still have to sign a 1-year contract?" and the answer was "Yes!".
This one has not been in effect (for all practical things) for a VERY long time.
The feds just pass federal laws that obviously are not permitted because of the 10th amendment, but nobody does anything about it.
I suspect that's because the feds have more money and more guns and everyone else.
Of course VB6 applications are not going to stop working. I seem to recall stories here on Slashdot about some MS licence agreement that allows Microsoft to "disable the software remotely". I think it caused an uproar because it directly conflicted with HIPPA. Does the VB6 license have any similar provision?
I guess my point is that I know VB6 applications won't stop working, but does the license for VB6 grant Microsoft the LEGAL right to do so, if they went all "take over the world" crazy?
Madison River Communications Corp is a CLEC in the south east USA. One of my customers had them for a while before switching to another CLEC for some reason. They provide phone service as well as internet service. I think their target market is businesses, rather than consumers
What happens when it rains?

I'm more interested in their study of how/if this new drug helps ADHD people. It even mentions it in TFA
What income do they think the homeless people have? Do they consider that when figureing out "average" or "median" income?
It's called a Picocell and they are EXPENSIVE. They also require a landline to the carrier and that's EXTPENSIVE too.
My point is anyone that thinks the USA govt takes care of a person "from cradel to grave" is an idiot.
Then again, so many of us want the kind of "cradle-to-grave" care our government has evolved into providing.

Vonage and many others would disagree with "nothing except Skype works behind NAT"
If these tasks were EASY people would have already done them -- no bounty required.
If it looks pretty and doesn't crash then it's "great".
For one thing they will see fewer fnords.
I HATE it when that happens.

It took 20 years for cell phones to work with 911. Why would VoIP take any less time?
Most icons look to me like some psychopath's attempt at drawing a toaster.

Not all USAians have terrible taste in beer.
These are clone cards, not official Digium cards. Rumor has it that they have problems with echo when used in a VoIP netup.
