and in the areas that arnt poor, theyd be able to afford the software.
Yeah clearly an insightful comment.
This post and this thread is moronic. If you are poor you are not going to have the funds to even begin getting computer equipment of course software prices are irrelevant. If you arnt then why should you be let off the cost.
and as a lot of people seem to have skipped over. MS are actually training people there so that they can actually get some cash. So yeah clearly MS are stupid.
'Note: I still USE Firefox on all my machines but it's because I don't mind wasting time patching it every few weeks when another vulnerability comes out.'
Favourable comment regardless fo previous fact.
'Don't get me wrong, I love the features of Firefox but from a security standpoint I realize I'm taking a risk by using it.'
People who graded this as a flame are burying there heads in the sand. Firefox has become more popular it has therefore come under more attack and yes it has been found not to be particularly secure. Theres a simple reason why. No Web Browser non of them witout exception are secure nor will they probably ever be.
Take a step back from your MS bashing two seconds to realise that IE has actually been working hard on sealing its bugs up non stop since its conception. MS wasnt leaving bugs in for a laugh, and the people working on this arnt rubbish programmers or incompetant. The problem is simply overwhelming.
The idea that Firefox, which hasnt had years of being tested against a vast army of crackers, and has only even been a particular target for spyware and such relatively recently, would be more secure is ludicrous.
Now whether the speed and how they handle the security flaws is good enough to counteract the greater numbers of bugs is another argument and not one Id want to speculate on.
Vast, vast, vast cost in not only money but in human life to find out man can survive, with some vomiting, in Zero gravity.
Yeah why on Earth would they ban that.
Off topic but Lost In Translation was such pretentious rubbish.
The thing is rated in the top 250 made a massive amount of profit and was raved about by nearly every critic and snob in the world. (Though non of them could actually come up with a reason why... They were satisfied by just spewing long words rather than explaining why they were warrented.)
Ahh but it would be hypocritical for me to do the same as they have so just a few reasons why its trash.
The two characters that you have to relate to are
a) a rich girl with a loving husband who she doesnt like because hes an idiot. (And based on Sophia Copolla's own relationship and indeed quite a few parallels between this and her lifestyle... see comment on pretentious) She doesnt do anything accept wallow in her easy and comfortable life. (Oh yeah im already feeling the pain.)
b) a wealthy actor having a mid life crises who is quite unpleasant to everyone. (No not a complaint about racism. Im sick to death of people leaping on comments about this character being unpleasant with crap like 'Oh but hes not racist at all!' He was a dick! he didnt need to be racist for that.) Once again he doesnt particularly do much accept wallow in his riches. (If it wasnt played by Bill Murray it would have far worse.) He has an affair and that is a bit of a spoiler I admit because there was absolutely no reason no explanation nor any meaning too it. It appeared thrown in there just so the two insipid characters could talk about themselves some more and sophia wouldnt have to make the film more of an advert for tokyo. (great city, lovely scenes taken of it but when 90% of your content is of it it starts to wear thin.)
Oh it was quite well shot it takes a good long look at these characters but it suffers so much because the characters are God awful and the situation is impossible to relate to. There are scenes that are indeed quite powerful, when Bill Murray is talking to his wife for example. These are few and far between.
As I say this wasnt a total waste of time, I just get all uppity on it cause its fans are so utterly dedicated usually without any reason accept that the emporer really is wearing clothes, hes not naked at all.
(See American Beauty for a film with a similar message done so very much better.)
As for indie games. Things have changed you cant just get going with a book and your speccy and start up a games company by making a character shaped like an egg. (happy days.) That doesnt mean this stuff dies out just means it has to change. Like independant movies the people involved have to get more funding and be more organised in a proper team. Games have become big business and even the amateur market will have to get up to speed with that. (and they are doing. I know people from my old course in Games Design were planning on starting a small games company to create stuff to give them better prospects in the future. They arranged to get space in the Uni labs even after graduation and got organised with a good plan.)
err your joking right? FFVII had an incredible world compelling characters and brilliant system. Its total lack of non linearity made it what it is and even though im not the biggest fan of it I can see why it is hailed as being such a good game.
Its plot was confused messy trash leading sometimes to the out right wierd and ultiamtely to an unsatisfying ending (After an annoyingly long fight with moves that made me want to chew through my controller cause theyd been done 70 billion times and take several days to complete.)
Plot is very much like graphics, if a game is there then a good plot will enhance it to greatness (Max Payne a fairly standard, solid third person engine brilliant stylish story.), but the gameplay _has_ to be their and, no FFVII isnt made by its terrible plot line.
That is really good stuff. As such a good feature im surprised it hasnt been talked about more. Well would be surprised if it wasnt 'dare not say they can actually do something right!' MS.
I have encountered a couple of games (Gun Valkerie in particular cause man what a good game in those brief moments Im not completely out of control.) that desperately need to allow more control over the err control.
My brothers even worse he likes to have both axis reversed in some games. (Depending on what your definition of reversed is left to look left or left to swing the camera thats behind your head left. (The latter is used only by crazy people. e.g. my brother.))
Havent even mentioned basic control setup that would help games such as GTA:SA (Worst white and black button usage ever!)
IT boggles the mind that in games that take years of development and need cutting edge hardware there is often no way of moving one function in the game from button to button on your controller. Making a way of stopping this is definatly a good move I really hope it or an equivalent is included on the rival consoles as well.
My first thoughts went something along the lines of. Dear lord Nintendo what have you done!?! but reading the demo reviews (Which may or may not be biased.) I began to open my mind a little.
The initial image I get of the controller is a bit of a problem though people are already having to be persuaded around to the idea of the controller rather than simply be excited at the prospect of using it. Not the best of starts but then Id need to ask my mum if she thinks it looks reasonable to see if maybe theyll make this market share back up by bringing new gamers in.
Getting over the fact it looks like a not so brilliant remote control I began to wonder just how flexable this is. Mostly in regards to RTS's though if it can return FPS's to the speed and frag fest of Quake then thats awesome too.
RTS's are near impossible to accomplish on a console with current controllers the analog stick is not precise or fast enough to select units from around a screen and issue instructions. Goblin Commander had a good crack at things and was a good bit of fun but it was heavily simplified to make things work. If this new controller is precise enough to work as a pointer on your TV screen well heck it could be just as good as any mouse setup you could have.
Im worried for the image of this thing but thats mostly based in what ive read here and other forums and the views of/. and the geeks at large are often totally out of whack with the general populace. Otherwise I have to admit really wanting a go on this thing.
To add to your analogy, most of the passengers continue to sit down but a few of the more stupid ones wander around one of them has a crack at opening the door and *flumph* sucked out. Wacks in to an engine and that along with the depreasurisation of the plane causes the whole thing to crash.
I believe his point is not that educating people is a bad idea. Its more that the system should be designed to be as fool proof as possible rather than rely on the education of users. Afterall if people were stupid enough to open doors on planes then they would have systems to prevent it, and experience has shown that stupid people on computers are quite willing to do the system equivalent of opening the door.
Fable is just about the only game Peter has made that didnt deliver. (and it was still a damn good play despite that fact.) Even black and white did everything he said it would. It wasnt as fun as it should have of been but it delivered (The average review hit 90% (www.metacritic.com)) and was quite a feat none the less.
How quickly people have turned on one of the greatest games designers. There is now a small army of forum visitors and IRC junkies complaining about how he never delivers.
The Theme park series Magic Carpet Syndicate The Dungeon Keeper series The Populous series Powermonger
All say he can deliver and can deliver big.
Some of the greatest PC games made are in there. Oh and as a side point just about all of them got better as there series progressed.
The X-Box version at least was finished and distributed on usenet. It is a great shame that it wasnt released officially it is well deserving of making money and there are few games as addictive and down right fun as it is. With any luck it will gain a cult following and either be released or another game based in the Red Star universe will come out.
I have completed both Freespace and Prophecy and on reflection I think Prophecy was a better game it had everything freespace had only faster and more interesting weapondary. The story line of both games was similar and pretty much besides the point of flying around killing stuff.
However, Freespace 2 is a different matter. The big lasers those ships fire are for a reason. The whole world around you was revealing a story. At its core its gameplay is no different to the others its the fact that you are now part of a bigger story that makes the game. I wasnt just clocking up kills (While often getting hugely annoyed by my incompetant wingmen.) I am now part of epic events that you can only hope to sway with your part of them.
In short the immersion in the Freespace world defies any space sim made. With the gameplay in this genre secured since X-Wing its this that makes it the greatest space shooter so far made.
As for X-Wing thats an all time classic I wouldnt dare compare it to anything else.
First off how many times do people have to point out $1000+ is an artifically inflated price shown off in a clear piece of flamebait presented as some kind of news here.
Second it has been posted before on other threads about the modern console prices that they _havent_ gone up. When you account for inflation there are ancient Atari consoles that cost over $50 more than even the more expensive MS X-Box.
Long gone are the days of $20 dollar games? Yes very very very long gone indeed the N64 released games at £60 each over here. Previous Nintendo and Sega games often hitting the 30 and 40 quid options. Go back in time far enough to get $20 games on release day and once again your probably looking at things of the same price when adjusted to our modern cash value.
Finally and for every other person who seems to think Nintendo are some how going to sweep the board with there pure breed cheap gaming machine. There predicted pricing is looking to put the REvolution at _more_ than the cheaper X-Box.
At the least its going to be similarly priced and it doesnt come with any more controllers or technology and even has a lack of out of the box DVD ability.
All of the console manufacturers are guilty of expensive consoles and peripherals, if you can really call them that because in reality nothing has changed. (The Expensive X-Box 360 is actually going to be cheaper in some stores in England than its predessesor!)
and in the areas that arnt poor, theyd be able to afford the software.

Its part of his introduction and just pointing out that features will often live or die based on whether MS use them.
It has nothing to do with the search feature specificall the section on 'search' is where that is covered.
