Same here. I work for a smaller municipality and after several weeks of testing Vista we decided it's in our best interests to continue using XP. Quite simply it's faster, has fewer hardware issues, and most importantly doesn't require training.
Gears are used for torque multiplication.... They still certainly have merit on an electric vehicle, especially a truck that at times could be pulling a load equal to it's own weight.
I could have hacked something together that would have been less painful for both teacher and students in a day or less... coding while drunk, while smoking crack, while a herd of midget pygmy women had their way with me, while watching Red Dwarf reruns, while being beaten ruthlessly by a psycho ex-girlfriend with a cat of nine tails, and while hanging upside down with a rope tied to my testicles... simultaneously...
All I can say is wow, what school did you go to?! Let me guess, it's somehow tied to the North Korean military?
While you make a good statement I have a few counter points..
1) You do contradict yourself at one point... Which has to deal with guns not being primarily for defense and they should be banned. A person who is willing to do something nefarious will be able to acquire a gun anyway, and it's rather difficult to stop a person with a gun if you don't have one yourself. That and you don't actually have to kill someone per say simple disable them. Most people with a bullet or two in the leg have the wind taken out of their sails so to speak.
2) Guns enable a person who is physically incapable of defending their life from someone stronger, faster, etc. A person can rather easily kill with their hands or a multitude of other weapons such as knives. To site an example if a person broke into my home with a knife (lets say to kill quietly) I could easily defend myself with a gun.
3) As for people being emotionally unstable I'll entirely agree, but you can cause just as much damage (IMO) with a 6,000lb+ vehicle as you could with a pistol and a few magazines.
4) Deep woods camping. I don't know about you but I wouldn't go several miles into the back country without a gun to ward off a hostile animal.
As a side note, I don't hunt and have never killed any animal or person to date (thankfully). But if I needed to do so to protect my life or the lives of family / friends I certainly would.
I'm sorry, but I've worked with a LOT of Mac users over the years. While there certainly are some seasoned computer geeks in that camp that is the exception sir, not the rule. I agree with the rest of your post, just no the implication that most Mac users are rather computer savvy.
Now I'll accept that it might not be ethical for a bar to continue serving someone who is wasted, at least without checking to see if they're driving, but unethical != illegal.
Right there... that hits the nail on the head as to one of the oldest and biggest problems with our government. The idea to legislate ethics. Not only is it dangerous it's also often most harmful to those who are the most ethical.
Bottom line... society needs to take deep breath, say it's going to be OK, and allow people to be responsible for their own actions. Yes, that was a period at the end of that last sentence.
I think it could reasonably be argued that most of the contestants expected the people running a contest, or another public event, would have done this kind of research and so would have ignored doing it for themselves
This is exactly why the direction US society is headed is troublesome. People have become so reliant on having things done for them, when they aren't bad things happen. To make matters worse our legal system will back that up. So what you have are people that feel very comfortable about being lazy and ignorant because they can sue someone else for their lack of effort. It's not hard to take responsibility for one's life and actions... and if we all did it that way we could likely throw out half of the law suits that get started every year. Just my 2 copper.
Yes but the question becomes... is that more efficient even after the extra losses from energy conversion (mechanical to electrical and back again)?? And you have to look at the increased complexity of the entire system and the added maintenance for it. All to often when you boil all the numbers down you wind up with a rather close match. Not to say that research should stop, and people shouldn't try new things... just that all angles must be looked at to see how truly viable something like this would be.
Um... I think your hatred has blinded you from the point that was being made by the parent poster. I'll boil it down for you. It's bullshit to help someone through whatever charity only to turn around and replace that money through a method that hurts the person you've just helped. For example:
1) Little billy's school can't buy books for all the students so X foundation chips in.
2) The books that were bought were actually contaminated with [insert negative here]
3) After a few years of most of the kids who have been "helped" now have [insert medical condition]
Bottom line is if your going to help do it in a manner that doesn't detract at the same time.
To make a superfluid you must cool helium down to a couple of a degrees above absolute zero - not one to try at home
that is what is in the article.... I just cut ant paste it myself... Me thinks you need a better material for your glasses my friend:)
Apparently you can bathe with toasters in your dimension. It must be nice when you want some toast during your bath
Actually you can do that... It would appear sir that you are the superstitious one. I have done several experiments PERSONALLY when I was younger after reading a college book about electricity. See if you understand the theory that old belief doesn't make sense.
And yes, I'm sure I'll be modded down for saying that because it would prompt people to test other beliefs and we can't have long held tradition challenged now can we.
Let the flames begin!
Look at the world we live in (at least int he USA)... It's all distraction and gratification based. People don't care about their rights, what we're doing in other country's or any of that non sense. They want they're TV, microwave dinner, and Playboy magazine. Until something comes along that steps on those "rights" the average joe isn't going to do anything about it. I mean who wants to miss an episode of to go vote or protest??
Holy crap, batman - someone completely missed the point of a boycott. Note: you boycott a company if you decide that you are not going to buy their products regardless of their intrinsic merit. So yes, you boycott a company even if they release the best rear-projection TV ever, or if it comes with the kitchen sink and does your laundry, too. Finally - can I point out that you just placed watching TV on a nice TV set above having principles and following through with them?
He's obviously a US citizen, in the US we care more about TV than morals and principles. Sheesh, where have you been?
Fines like this come right out of profits and cash, they hurt a lot, especially in an industry that is struggling to turn a profit (because of bad business decisions, piracy, or government mind control rays, whatever)
Umm, sorry my friend... but SONY isn't going to "feel" this. Much like an elephant doesn't feel a few dozen skin cells fall off it's leg. To a company their size that just means some lab doesn't get a couple upgrades till next year.
I'll tell you a little secret: if you know the kernel version number and target architecture, you can build a module on another, totally different machine. Wow! 2007 technology man!
Yea it's a good thing uname is a command no-one has ever heard of! oh shit... oops... sorry guys.
Either that or fill it with an inert gas such as nitrogen. Since it's going to be welded shut that shouldn't be a problem.
Same here. I work for a smaller municipality and after several weeks of testing Vista we decided it's in our best interests to continue using XP. Quite simply it's faster, has fewer hardware issues, and most importantly doesn't require training.
Why would you want to drink beer from a CAN??
Jesus, don't people learn anything in HIGH school these days?"
There fixed that for ya.

Just my 2 cents.
It's the BIOS they're talking about... so yes, it's 2 meg
orthorhombic
After reading that I pictured a roomba dentist...

You know... I was thinking that sounds like a good idea, but then I thought of what someone would see if they looked through my memories:
/cheers
1) Go to work
2) Strive to not kill users and/or co-workers
3) Go home and drink beer
4) Pr0n
5) Sleep
Then again... it might make a nice self help video with a title to the effect of, "You have so much to live for"
Microsoft is the Empire. Apple is the Rebels. We are the Ewoks.
But.... I always wanted to be a wookie....*sniff*

What was that awful "computer" movie he was just in?
It was called "Firewall"

I have an excuse... I haven't owned a TV for over 3 years now :P

As a German I completely agree. You have to be able to build servers one handed since the other is busy holding the beer!
