    "There are a lot more of those people, and they only get paid marginally less than programmers. The programmers are in a very very tough job market, so mostly only good ones get jobs programming anywhere (though, there are notable exceptions, of course), and they're overqualified for networking."

    Umm, I'm sorry but I'm going to say that out of all the programmers I know (about 30) only 5 or 6 of them would be capable of doing networking jobs....

    Programming != Networking

    Cheers

    Because this is a civil case, even if the RIAA wins she doesn't have to pay. They court system does not enforce the rulign. IANAL, but my father has had to deal with a couple cases where a person extortet money from his company. He filed the case, went to court, and won. SO he has the judgement, but will never see a dime from it. So.... the judge can say, ok you owe RIAA X for damages. Then look at RIAA and say send her a bill. I'm sure it can screw up your credit and the like, but certainly won't take money right out of your pocket. Anyone else have any other usuful info on this line of thought?? Cheers

    But where were these people when the TV came out?? I know dozens of people that go home after work and watch sitcoms, movies, reality TV, etc. Like zombies they wait until it's time to sleep, then do the same routine. With the internet at least you are learning / interacting with something vs being fed information like an old tape drive. Sadly anything can become an addiction, but at least the internet is one that is fairly cheap and doesn't make you a mindless zombie... That is assuming you don't read too much /. ;-) Cheers

    that there was such a huge pr0n problem. Give me a break. I spend hours on the internet at work, and never see anything that resembles a porn site! (I work for the city and your fired on the spot for viewing porn at work, no questions asked) This whole mess smells like a bunch of tech "BUISNESS" men who want to setup a system to make these providers a shitload of money. Thats it end of story.

    The truly scary part of this whole mess is that if they implement a system like this how long is it until you have to pay for other "feature" channels? Want to view information on autos? an extra x.xx/mo... access sites to do secure online transactions? an extra x.xx/mo Of course they won't do it all at once so noone makes too big a fuss. (Remember if you put a frog in luke warm water and slowly heat it up it will sit here and cook)

    The really sad part about all this is that the goons on capitol hill only care about money, so they will prolly pass the law before I get done writing this post...

    ..I'd like to see the good that has come from video games and other such things. People get insperation from media, games, and people surroundign them. Hell if it wasn't for Doom, I wouldn't have learned near as much as I did about networking while I was in high school. I've played countless hours of violent games, and haven't killed or harmed anyone. As a matter of fact when I had a bad (as a kid) I could go home and play some of those games to rid myself of the aggression. I wish studies wern't so lopsided. I'm sure that people in all kinds of sports and other professiona have enjoyed the benefit of better hand eye coordination, and reaction time due to playing video games when they were young. IMHO because of the percentage here (ie 4.5 million users, 1 has died) this kid would still have done himself in, albet for a different reason. Who know maybe I'm wrong and we all need to live in a Brady Bunch world....

    Get a life. I love it that anytime a person does something out of the "norm" it has to be fixed. If a person wants to spend their ENTIRE life in front of a computer playing games who are you to say they can't?! People like you have the same mentality as those idiots in the middle east!!! Anytime someone suggests breaking and entering, vandalism, and oppression of one's right to make a choice is a detriment to society. So by your statement you would rather live in society where YOUR stuff can be smashed because you use it too much or in a fashion that "normal" soceity doesn't accept. The thing that I find truely tragic about this is that your own family would even consider something like this. Family is supposed to support and allow one another to live the life that person wants to live, not live the life THEY believe they should be living. (ALthough a LOT of families these days do try to run one anothers lives)

    Now that I got that off my chest. People who have addictive personalities often are aware of it (I'm one of them). AND they can/will quit when they are ready. If they don't, then they aren't ready and may never want to. A heroin addict gets help because they WANT TO. Remember the old saying, "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink." That sums it up right there.

    Cheers
