Maxtor, Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital and all the other storage companies better listen to what Samsung is doing here. Life is good when you are sitting in front of a really fast computer, but it's rather disturbing that the hard drives (and media players i.e. DVD) still operate at milliseconds instead of nanoseconds.

Has anyone thought about why hard drive development is so focused at increasing disk space by using similar technology and nothing beyond that? I mean, come on, this tech has been around for ages and you'd kind of want a solid replacement (read: no moving parts, nanosecond operation times).

Who knows what we'll see next in terms of hard drives AND WHEN?

I believe that poker is getting bigger and bigger for every day that comes. There may be a stagnation as compared to what we have seen before, but if you think about it, more TV shows are coming up about poker.

Look at http://www.pokertvguide.com/ who are dedicated to poker on TV. There are a zillion shows there.

Further on, there's a big bunch of tournaments available every day, and compared to last year, this amount has gone up more than 470 percent, which is quite a lot. Another good example, think it's from the same network, is http://www.pokermajors.com/ who host a load of poker tournaments. Last but not least, let's not forget about all the poker sites that have grown and the new ones that have shown up. PartyPoker may just experience new competition. Perhaps they should offer more rakeback and such? Hey, we see people play Counter-Strike for five years and it's still huge!

  10. The writer misses a few important points on Speculations Intel's Next Generation · · Score: 1, Interesting

The writer of the article does have a point about Intel's next gen chips. It does lay in line with the current fab expansions, BUT (there's always a but), there could of course be other aspects of it. As far as I know, Apple won't struggle to beat the fastest PC:s in the world no more, simply because they never will. Therefore, I doubt that such move would be based purely on better Intel chips. Instead, I would suggest that PPC architecture wasn't pleasing Apple just that much. After all, PPC is unable to keep up with Intel/AMD nowadays and supposedly, Apple could be worried about this. On the other hand, Apple is so well known for surprising the masses. What if old Stevie woke up one day with that big idea in his mind of switching over to x86 architecture, just to make a move on Microsoft? What if they actually expand to non-Apple certified hardware? I wonder if they could make more money on such choice, and really, I doubt that people would stop buying iMacs because of this. That's still a matter of taste, since iMacs come with simplicity and style. PC:s generally don't. Last but not least, COSTS. Apple is expected to announce their own developed iPods. Nowadays, they sell iPods with peripherals from Samsung, Toshiba, etcetera. So what it comes down to is, perhaps this move was purely so that it could make an extra buck or two? I'm pretty sure that Intel would love to make a sweet deal with Apple as it did with Dell. Depple? FINALLY!

"When will they ever learn? When will the ever learn?" Linux is not so much about the money, but about freedom. And freedom has no price - I know what I am speaking about!
Bullocks. Freedom does have a price and is usually very expensive. I assume you didn't serve in the front line in Iraq, but freedom is just a fancy word to me. And as for costs, the only reason my company switched to Linux was for its better security. I am not saying that this model fits into every company, but in this instance, it was in fact more expensive. We also read a story the other day about some Irish(?) police force switching over to Office from Staroffice, claiming much lower costs. Seriously, Linux is good stuff but it's far from that good and in many cases, Windows IS BETTER.
  12. Linux if you got money, Windows if you got more on A New Look at Linux vs. Windows TCO · · Score: -1, Troll

I wouldn't say that any of the two are that cheap. In reality, Windows has a very user-friendly interface and a broad variety of applications. Linux on the other hand, requires individuals with a knowledge about a software which is not quite as common as Windows is.

At work, we have approximately 120 Linux servers and zero running Windows. We did, however, run Windows in the past. What we have come up with is, Windows is more of a first time cost for your company and then it goes on quite okay if you're running up to date software and decent firewalls. Linux, on the other hand, costs a shitload of maintenance and therefore a lot of expenses as well.

I believe that - in the long term - a lot of different types of businesses can benefit from running Windows. Some may not because they don't have the money to fund Windows from the start.

And then we have the security issues.. Man, I wish I was rich and then I'd not have to give a crap.

Hollywood is crap. Seriously, how many good movies do they actually produce? I mean, say that you're uncle Scrooge with one hundred million dollars to waste on a movie, HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY FAIL?

Some movies are really great and innovative, but most stuff is just random crap that you see too often. I remember the good old days when computer graphics enhancement was new to people. I actually enjoyed the some 4-10 minutes of animations. Nowadays they put either near 0 % computer animations or next to 100 and they make the effects so surreal that it's, well, unrealistic.

When Independence Day was released, well, that movie was something new. They copied the alien attack movies with a crapload of super-sized alien ships and basically kicked the living crap out of people. I remember that the effects didn't look unrealistic at all, because they didn't use them way too much. Compare that to Star Wars I and II, where they basically put so much of that crap, it just loses its sense.

It also feels like most movie studios spy on each other like crazy. A dinosaur movie is often followed by another one or more, and same goes with every Pixar movie like a Bug's Life and the one that looked just like it, but with other insects. Or how about the sudden appearance of all the sharks?

And while I'm at it, why didn't they make Terminator 3 good? They had to use all the nonsense bumbo jumbo crap effects in every scene they could find and basically killed the whole feeling. The computer graphics made the robots feel like they were totally indestructable. At least in the old movies, they had flaws, but Arnold was like a big chunk of metal who could penetrate 50 restrooms with the tip of his finger..

"Hey, our statistics show that we got approximately 39% more visitors now! Good job Spock!" As more and more sites include community features, more and more users also log on to the web site they visit. How about measuring this, and then try to get an idea of how many unique IP:s you got, make a poll and then base the poll results on that?
