  1. Doesn't the sale have to be approved first? on SCO Preps Appeals Against Novell and IBM · · Score: 5, Informative

Doesn't the bankruptcy trustee have to approve the sale first? The article sounds like this is already a done deal.. Dang, I need to start reading Groklaw again.

No, I'm not happy that I had to send it back, it meant that there were several weeks that I was without it. And yes, I got it near to launch.

And I agree that they may not necessarily care about you or me, but it seems that they are proud enough of their product that they want it to work well for people and are willing to spend a billion dollars to make it a good product.

And you've never had to return any electronic thing to the store when it didn't work when you got it home???

  6. Caught between a Brick and Red Rings of Death on Xbox Division Posts Loss of $1.9 Billion · · Score: 2, Insightful

Microsoft is in a tough spot with this and they did what they had to do to save the X-box brand. They had two choices, 1) save money and not do anything about the red rings of death and lose the advantage they have over the PS3 (an actual installed base) or 2) put out the billion dollars. I'm glad they did spend the money, to me it sounds like they do actually care about their product. And yes, I'm a 360 owner, and yes, I've had to had mine shipped back TWICE, both for free.

  7. No official word yet on Human Head Offices Destroyed, Company Bands Together · · Score: 1

I don't think there is an official word yet, but I believe I heard the fire started in a storage area for another tenant in the building. It's sad that the place burned, it was a renovated roundhouse next to the railyards here.

  10. Why save them until week 2? on Hirai Expects One Million PS3s By End of Year · · Score: 3, Interesting

I don't understand what benefit is gained by releasing a game the week after launch day. At that point, is that one week really going to make a difference in game quality? And if it would, why not then wait a month and get the game perfect?

  11. Too expensive for rental places to stock on Sony Hints At Higher Priced Games · · Score: 2, Interesting

I've stopped at a couple of video rental places looking to rent 360 games. Both places (a Movie Gallery and a mom & pop shop) have told me that they won't stock 360 games because the cost for them is too high. Now granted, I haven't done an exhaustive search and I'm not near a major metropolitan area, but it's not a good sign with the usual 360 $60 price point. I wonder if the PS3 games will be stocked at $70-$80...

  13. What the 360 does on A PS3 Hands-On Report? · · Score: 1

To clarify for the 360, Xbox live arcade games downloaded to the hard drive are available to all profiles on that machine. Some games are marked as restricted, such as Gauntlet, where if the game is downloaded to a memory card (which is a valid location to download to), that user must log into Xbox Live each time they play to verify the game. So you can take the game to another Xbox, but you'd need to sign in on each one you played it on.
