    When did Adobe release a Linux port of Photoshop?


    I was at a Photoshop seminar last week here in Memphis. I spoke with the instructor during one of the breaks and asked him if he though there would be a native Linux version of Photoshop. He said as he shook his head up and down in a very expressive affirmative manner that due to certain non-disclosure agreements he had signed he couldn't say what he knew.

    The rumor is "soon".

    Really, "news for nerds" is almost the opposite of "stuff that matters,"

    I always read "News for Nerds. Stuff that matters." as meaning "New stuff that matters to nerds." So I completely understand news about new desktop releases.

    If they start posting news about the latest fashion trends and dating secrets I'll be surprised.

    Come to think of it, nerds could use some dating advice....

    You say that jokingly. And it probably was someone who hates SCO who defaced the site. But with as many dirty tricks, distortionas, and outright lies that SCO has perpetrated on the general public and even in court, I'll withold judgement about who really did it until someone is convicted.

    It's that cry wolf thing.

    Laws do not allow people to do things, laws prevent people from doing things.

    There are no laws preventing commercial space flight. This was an attempt to regulate it and therefore restrict commercial space flight. This bill failing is a good thing for privite space missions. It would have been bad had it passed.

    For years, jury duty has been seen as a nuisance to get out of however possible.


    I think this is an urban legend. I don't know anyone who had been called for jury duty who looked at it that way. Maybe the people I know are an anomaly, but I doubt it.

    Are these going to be more 4 episode seasons? I really like these shows. I'd really like to see them give us more shows.

    And they need to demote the O'Neil character or something to get him back in the field. His attitude is what made the old episodes.

    The pumping does nothing to create pressure. Instead, it reduces the amount of pressure that has to build up before an earthquake hits.
    I was thinking the same thing when I read that. Seems like over all a Good Thing[tm]. However, from the FA:
    That event, combined with two significant tremors in 1999, led government officials to reduce the amount of brine injected by a third.
    Perhaps reducing the the amount pumped in increased the likelyhood of bigger quakes. It seems like lubricating the fault line would be the thing to do.

    All Google has to do is run some unusual queries through MSN, check their logs, find the IP addresses and block them.

    But wouldn't it be much more fun if Google just detected MS IP addresses and returned bogus information to requests coming from them? Just imagine 75% of MS searches returning tubgirl or lemonparty.

    I have strong recommendations for Joker.

    I will throw in my two cents in favor of Joker also. I won't rehash what others have said about them, but only add that I have been using Joker for about three years without any problems. I've been very happy with them.

    Or the interview was done while the bill was still alive.

    The Democrats and Republicans constantly say one thing and do another. The draft died this time. After the election the political pressures will be different.

    There is no ban on stem cell research. It is just not federally funded any more. You may be of the opinion that the government should fund it, but that is a different issue.

  21. Does anyone else miss... on Window Maker 0.90.0 Released At Long Last · · Score: 3, Insightful

    This is a little off topic I suppose, but it got me thinking about when I first started using Linux. It was hard to choose which desktop I wanted to use every time I logged in. Sure Gnome and KDE have made vast improvements over the years, and both are excellent desktops at this point, but I kinda miss that choice.

    Maybe it's just my perception, and not reality, but it seems like all the other desktops have stagnated. I have been excited about the new Enlightenment for a long time, but it still seems to be a long way from completion.

    I don't mean to put down any of the desktops or demean any of the developers. I just miss the old days when the desktop wars had at least 1/2 dozen serious contenders.... *sigh*

    It's maddening that there are people who think neutral scientific observations are furthering some kind of political agenda. That's not to say that the idea of "science" hasn't been misused in the past, but I don't believe that's the case w/ global warming.

    It's maddening that some people blindly accept junk science as "neutral scientific observations".

    Squid are observed farther north = neutral observation

    Squid farther north bacause of CO2 and global warming = junk science

    And when exactly is it you think politicians stopped trying to misrepresent science to further their political agendas?

    And in what state do you think he could have captured a plurality of the vote? I'm not bashing your point -- I'm just wondering. Even if he absolutely crushed Bush or Kerry -- what state could he get a plurality in?


    It's extremely unlikely that he could get over 50% of the vote in any state. His exposure has been below most people's radar.

    Had he been allowed in the debates, his chances would have been much better.

    At least that 15% mark might have been possible.
