Well, briefly looking over the part list, it seems that they went all out on this thing. It is nice. I think that you could build one a lot cheaper, by avoiding the dual core, huge amounts of memory, etc.
Didn't we know all along that Google was doing good? After all, it isn't possible for them to do anything bad...
That writer's guild must be crazy for trying to protect their rights!
I have a 6600GT with a fan, and it isn't loud at all. Just put up with it.
You'll never notice the sound difference unless you don't have any other fans in your computer. If you don't have any fans in your computer, you're fried. Water cooling units make noise, unless you have a Zalman reserator.
Let the enthusiasts have their fun...
There is room for growth in the PC market... All the people who have never owned computers will buy them eventually, as prices decline and the software becomes more accessible and user friendly.
But yeah, I agree with the idea that they're definately going to have to branch out to keep growing.
Because Windows is already bundled on the PC they bought at Best Buy.
That is the number one problem, I think. Average people aren't going to install Linux on a machine that already has a fully functional system installed.
But strides are being made in this area. Wal-Mart sells a few models of Linspire based PC's. There are plenty of online retailers, like Sub300 (Or Sub500 for our Canadian friends).
This pre release is out for people who know what they're doing to get a preview of WinFS. When it comes out in full, it will probably be included in Vista from that point on, and they might have Windows Update automatically convert the filesystems for people. Or something.
I wonder if there is a possibility of MS releasing the NTFS specs for the FOSS community once WinFS becomes widely used? That would be great, but seems unlikely.
Aight, thanks for all the replies.:)
I think I remember reading somewhere in the Gentoo documentation that I had to use Grub. I have all the appropriate settings (chainloader, rootnoverify, etc...). I'll search the forums a bit.
I use AMD64 Gentoo, dual booting with Windows XP Pro. Of course, LILO doesn't work with AMD64, so I have to use Grub. The bad part here is that Grub hangs whenever I try to get it to load Windows. I don't think it likes a 32 bit kernel image. So.... I have to go into the BIOS and change primary boot drives everytime I want to switch. I want a bootloader that can do that for me, or at least a way to make Grub do it.
(Of course, I never really boot into Windows...)
To me the whole thing sounds a bit... Dramatized.
It sounds like it came from a movie. It wouldn't surprise me if the truth was exaggerated just a tiny bit.
I'd personally be more interested in reading a comparison of Plasma and LCD. Preferably one that I could stand reading without my attention immediately turning to something else.

Are you calling Lawrence Lessig a cow?? Insensitive clod...
The real question is does it run *on* linux...?
until this is abused? I can think of a number of ways it could be taken advantage of...

OMG! The communists are going to get us!
Better have them writing code for contests than having them writing real malicious code that will actually affect the public...

I'm sure it's running Windows CE...
Then why do the articles refer to it as a filesystem?

I suppose better Google than Microsoft, right...?
Aight, thanks for all the replies. :)

Apparently not: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=mistaked& btnG=Google+Search
Am I the only one who mistaked this for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting?

It isn't down for me...

And we think the Jews and Muslims aren't getting along... Wait till the FSF and OSI duke it out...
