You neglect to think about how shittily made the PS2 is. Many people such as myself have 4 PS2s. Of which, 3 are flatly dead (nothing else can be asked of the lasers even with tweaking) and the 4th one just runs games off the HD. Sony certainly does get allot more PS2s sold when the hardware is so shitty you end up needing to replace it frequently.
You have to remember that Nintendo has had allot of practice in this. The only reason the Nintendo suceeded really was because Nintendo came right out about problems with the NES intially. For those who don't know: The original NES in Japan had faulty soundchips. What did Nintendo do? Replaced every console without question and took a huge financial hit of course. If not for that the console would have been a non-starter for the dead console industry videogames would probably be PC & Arcade centric still. I could go for better Arcades in the US however >_
Last I checked a Mac does that far more effectively with the Doc. Even can make icons & text larger as needed rather nicely. Not to mention if they decide to dig around and I dunno...get to know their computer more they won't be breaking anything. With a Linux box they are guaranteed to never explore one bit and are far more likely to be calling about the most asinine, "web" stuff. Just because they are old doesn't mean they are 2 year olds.
GC games require the GC controller as far as I know. Virtual Console games however all work with the Classic controller plus the GC controller and depending on the game the Wiimote can be used (mainly NES and some Genesis games). Back to Zelda!
Major advances are more often than not made through simple changes to the accepted "norm." What usually drags such things on is that those that have a vested interest in one form of advancement paying off they will not risk another way. As such it usually ends up requiring fresh blood in the mix. Another problem there is often times the new blood has set ways impressed on them by the mentors and as such regurgitate the same, wrong, answers till someone often times risking tanking their career (see invitro fertilization) comes along with something like this. I'm not saying this is "the" way, but at least someone is looking into new techniques.
Ummm...Sony doesn't get the full $50 from the sale. They get maybe $10-$15 off of each game. Last gen they were getting about $6 off each game. It takes a whooooole lot more than 6 games for them to break even.
Gawd...please...shut, the, fuck, up. I have a raging hard-on for Japan too, but there are limits. Your gaming habits are not typical of other gamers outside of Japan. Damn fanboys...the scourge of the universe...
Sorry, but allot of what drives console purchases is Japan games nitwit. Japanese developers develop for Japan gamers and then sell to everyone else. No Western game will sell more consoles than a Final Fantasy exclusive as much as I hate to admit it.
Oh carriers will allow it on their networks. They have to. If someone puts a Cingular SIM into an iPhone I'll bet you anything it'll work. Carriers can refuse to sell it to consumers all they want, but it's not like Apple doesn't have their own distribution channels like other phone manufacturers. Simply put, Apple's phone will be a bit more out of the gate than other phones (just like iPods vs other MP3 players), people will buy it anyways, phone carriers will either see the money exchanging hands they are rejecting, and stock holders will either pressure them to relent or corporate shuffling will occur. Mobile-phone companies are greedy little fucks, but they will do anything for a buck.
I know the phone doesn't fit in with the small phone crowd that screams for more features & better interface, but Treo's (outside of the 700w) are hands down the best interface you'll get your hands on. You don't even need to be so worried about losing your phone if you sync enough to keep data on the phone and your PC. New revision out? Get the new one and the data will come off your PC. No stupid assed copying contacts from the SIM card that only allows one phone # per record. It's a hell of allot better option than anyone else's current offerings.
Only way the iPhone will be taking the place of my Treo is if they have it able to sync with iCal and Addressbook at the very least with my Mac. I'd love to see it happen, but I really don't see it working out.
It probably has something to do with the fact that Wii isn't going to be that hard to get ahold of. Anyone interested in it will be able to get one without much hassle. Whereas the PS3 is just being rushed to market (I can't wait to see the problems arrise because of that). Sony couldn't even ship 100k to Japan (80k). Sounds like they'll loose 20% of the US units at least if thats any indicator.
Preorders for the Wii were done at all GS on 10/13. Theres likely no way in hell you'll be able to get a Wii from a GS if you don't have a reserve. Only reason I knew was because GS sent me an email 2 days beforehand since I've ordered things online before. Was the most surreal thing to have to line up to get a reserve. I'm #3 at my GS so I'm happy.
And the day I can't get a preorder done is the day I just wait for a console to become readily available. Those stores get my business because I'm generally pretty sure I'll get what I reserved (#3 for the Wii). I call those places about preorders the day I hear the name of the console being announced. Those are for the hard of the hardcore gamers that follow consoles years before they are released. Not the dorm monkies that'll camp out in front of a Best Buy for week freezing their ass off because they were too dense to get a reserve.
Huh? I dunno what E3 you could have gone to, but everyone was over at the Nintendo booth. The most people near the Sony booth was the massive line that went next to the Sony booth to the other side of the hall for the Nintendo booth. Sony's showing at E3 was abysmal. Both with their "Riiiddddggggggggeeeee Raaaacccccccceerrrrrr" & "Flip the gian crab over for massive damage" demos and the games in general at E3. All Sony has had going for them since E3 is their hype machine.
Huh? What dreamland are you living in? The grand total of PS1 games that don't work on a PS2 is less than 10. I remember Sony had a full list on their site years ago, but they change things around so much I can't locate it now.
One other factor some don't look at because most don't do it is the copy protection. At a glance I saw Devil May Cry's freezing they reported to be strangely similar to problem as if the game was copied for the PS2 and a swap disk was used. Some games use non-standard copy protection abilities which can bring the whole thing to a screeching halt.
Actually, The Matrix, The Mummy, and other fairly decent blockbuster special effects movies that made the format change make sense came out just as DVD was attempting to go mainstream, and did more for the format than any console did. I wouldn't touch DVD until The Matrix came out. Which surprise, surprise came out just before the PS2. Anyone who purchases a PS2 for DVD playback was a fool and still is. The laser on those are so damn fragile to begin with, not to mention how shitty the DVD playback is on a PS2 has always been. Damn system can't even display black correctly.
Blue Ray has no such movies to pull it's ass out of the fire. Just the same movies available on DVD that really don't need BR (a decent upsampler to 720p/1080i does the job), players that cost too much and a console thats being rushed to market and they can't get good numbers of. God knows they have to have something out this year or they have absolutely no chance to even capture a quarter of the market.
That method is pretty worthless to me. I check how easy it is to get ahold of people when I go to buy stuff from them and when I see a form to fill out I just don't bother. With the company or the form. Email can be tracked far more readily than a website form. It is preferable I guess however to email addresses that are images.
I'll take greed & exploitation. You take it every day you walk into a store. They pay far less than you for something and you take it like a man at full price. Get used to it. Stupid people will be taken advantage of. Your mainly mad because you didn't think of it first. Hell I'm mad I didn't just do it.
They said the exact same thing about the PS2. When they said that, they were saying it's developed lifetime would be that. Hell Dreamcast had it's last game come out a year ago and it was dead long before that? Of course the drooling fanboys of the world took it as it'll be 10 years before anyone releases a new console. They craft their words very carefully so when you come back at them in 5 years they just point to their old words and say, "read it again stupid." Guaranteed, MS or Nintendo will put out another console 5-7 years from now and Sony will "me too" it.

Already is a single word, and has been for a long time. Depending on where your from most will say Mobile or Cell.
O RLY? is 4chan.org slang thats making it's rounds. I love it when I see people associating themselves with b-tards that came up with the meme.
You mean like how everyone decried every early game on the DS a gimmick? History is at the door...it's here to repeat itself.

Hey guess what AC dipshit! Sony did too, but they did it even better 150-200k! So go STFU!

STFU 1337est asshole. Some of us can speak the language, understood the commercials, and still find it funny.
