  1. Portable TV... why? on TV On Mobiles: Not Yet There? · · Score: 3, Insightful

So I know I'm probably just addding to the other people on here that have already vented that portable TV is a thing of the past, and that the screen is too small, and that there's nothing good on anyway, etc... but obviously the OEMs and Service Providers don't realize this yet... It used to be cool to be able to pick up that TV signal anywhere and watch TV, but not only is it old hat, but why would I want to do that on a Cell Phone of all things? Think about it:
I'm at home, I watch the HDTV in the living room.
I'm in the Home Office, I have a TV tuner (that rarely gets used, but that's beside the point)
I'm on the go, there are DVD players and TV tuners for in car stereos (which have much better sound and typically are like 7" screens)
I'm in the office, there's a TV in the break room (besides, I'm too busy to watch TV at work anyway or I wouldn't have a job)

Why do we need another one? Are people standing around waiting in lines for the train? Is that the only market? I used to surf the net on my phone waiting for my plane when I traveled, but it was usually only for a few minutes to get the news because the screen was too darn small. How many people ride the train/plane/bus to work? I assume it's a decent number, but compare that to the number of people that can afford a phone that enables them to watch TV and how many actualy care to watch TV in the first place and then see how many are in all categories... then realize that we're talking about a small percentage of people here and realize that Cell phone TV = "Nothing to see here, move along"

    Just my $0.02 I guess.

And when is Tivo going HD anyway? That's going to seperate it from the rest... Especially some of the new cable company DVRs that already have HD tuners in them. Honestly that's the main reason why my friends and I haven't picked up a Tivo and I think they're missing out on business that way.

Ever hear of 2 for $20? Best Buy runs that deal all the time, so I could OWN a movie WITH the DVD and case and all for 10 bucks. Heck, even newer more popular movies run $15 bucks tops (unless it's imported/anime and then you just have to look for sales)...

So lets see here. I pay 8-10 bucks to be able to download it. Then I have to also pay for the bandwidth used to download it (sure I pay monthly for cable, but if you only download movies and it costs $20-40 a month, you have to factor it in), then I have to buy some DVD-R/+R media, and if I want to make it fancy a case and atleast a new sharpie everyonce in a while... Not to mention the time spent... looks like a pretty crappy deal to me. I'll just drop 15 bucks and buy the movie and watch it whenever I feel, on which ever DVD player I feel like sticking it in.

    Atleast that's My $0.02.

Theoretically some new textures would be great, I mean, they upgrade the system, they upgrade the resolution, they upgrade the controllers, etc... But honestly, if they upped the textures in 1 & 2, they couldn't put "New Highres Textures" in version 3... (Unless they re-released 1 & 2 for the 360 and charged for the upgrades.) I mean, it doesn't really make sense for them, but it would be nice
But thinking about the effort it may take to do all that could be more than just swapping out some texture files with new ones. They may have to take advantage of specific 360 hardware to actually USE the larger textures and that may make it not worthwhile to them (again, I'm sure 3 will come out and no one will care about 1 & 2 anymore anyway). I mean, I've played FF-7 on my PC, that didn't change the textures or polygon count... but if someone went back and made really high res versions of Super Mario 3, yet kept the same game play, would people buy it? and even if they would, it wouldn't be the same game with its retro goodness.

Definately an interesting article, but it needs more details for accurate comparison. Also, since some are around $400-$1200 I would like a comparison between these units and say an old Pentium I have lying around that runs linux (or windows for comparison) serving files.
