There's nothing that justifies the fact you'll give away your health for money. Move to another city, state or country. Don't put yourself any artificial constraint. There are lots of places on earth where you'll get a decent life. Move.
I was going to mod you up, but I wanted to expand on your comment.
The biggest problem with corporations is they can burn you out if its cost effective. Workers are not treated as human beings, they are treated as cattle, if they can make money by working you harder and getting away with it, they will do it.
Thats the problem, people think that corporations will follow the rules, try to make the best working environment they can. Thats not true, the have a responsibility to make money for investors, period. This is why unions where formed for the back breaking and dangerous jobs, to give some sort of safe working environment to the workers.
No forward 40 years, now people are working in an office. Its not back breaking, so the want longer hours, no OT, and if you are lucky your benefits will include the counseling you need when you loose your family due to divorce. Don't think your wife will put up with it..
Seriously, how many hours should a person be working? How many hours for that is commute time? You give up your vacations because you have a deadline? You working longer hours for crunch time? You think that 2 dollar an hour more is worth your family time?
Doesn't make sense you would trade your health for a short term job, because you will burn out.
But, if your 18 or just out of college these jobs look attractive, good pay, good beneifits, and hey, you work for a fortune 500 company... Be careful..
Also, hey, if you do burn out, they have insurance right?
We should ban Salt, Sugar also, we know they are bad for your health. Wait, its your choice to use salt and sugar?
Don't kid yourself, they are trying to use this law as censorship, if they can fine the companies making the games, they think they can stop them from creating these games.
The problem is moot, the games have age labels, its says Muture rating for a reason, if parents buy the game, or Blockbuster rents the game, how and why is the game creator responsible??!
As a Washingtonian, I can tell your our state is majorly fucked up when it comes to personal rights.
When it comes to children, the state would rather you put your kids on drugs than spank. Put them into counseling, and get them a probation officer.
Men's rights are HORRIBLE, if you meet a girl with a kid, you date her for a few months, you could be made to pay child support, even though the kid is not yours.
Then we have State ran liquor stores, where they choose what liquor you can have. They are closed on Sundays, the weekend when you normally do your shopping.
Gay rights is having tough times passing when most of the states believe gays are sinners and shouldn't be allowed near children.
Medical use of marijuana is believed to be morally wrong, so it doesn't pass every time it comes up to vote.
If you have been following the news here, we just had a Police officer under investigation for kissing his girlfriend, while he was in uniform. Her job? A stripper, so it must be something illegal going on. If it was a teacher, nobody would have said anything.
And speaking of Strip clubs, they don't serve food or alcohol, due to zoning laws. WTF?! In Texas, you can go to a nice place, order a big steak, drink a beer, and watch hot women on stage that are of super model quality. Nothing lewd going on, its what mens clubs should be like.
People are even considering splitting up the state into Western and Eastern Washington, so the Seattle side can get some stop having the moral majority pass this RELIGOUS that censor everything we do.
I love my state, I just wish we could get our heads out of our asses and start working on real issues, like roads, schools and internet access in rural areas. We don't need more censorship, all TV's come with Vchips, and Video games have warnings.
Nanny nation is right, stop trying to protect everyone. Freedom has risks, and the risks are worth it.
Am I a fool for giving up steady work and good pay
Yes.
Keep a Fuck You fund just for this reason, so you can walk away from the job. Depending on what you do and skill level, you can quit a job at a moments notice and work for someone else, (Or yourself).
If you are smart, you are networked, have other jobs waiting, working multiple jobs, stay in demand, you shouldnt fear switching jobs.
Unless you have your life invested in a company, loyalty stops at the paycheck, they have no problems outsourcing you if it can save them money. Treat your work with as an investment, if you are not getting your moneys worth, invest somewhere else. Your time and work is an investment.
I think there are few issues here, the main one that DRM was cracked and put on the web, doesnt matter what the song was, that was illegal in the USA. I couldnt get on the website, but if its the same file with DRM disabled, thats a problem.
Converting to a non-copyprotected format is already allowed, since they let you burn iTunes to CD. And since they already allow you to convert to one format, you could argue that point that you are just converting to another for personal use.
And the tune itself is nothing but silence, which seems flawed, as there is only 1 silence by nature itself, doesnt seem logically to be copyrightable.
Myself, I stopped using iTunes, as it doesnt carry the music I want, a few only radio stations do, so I use stream rippers, which is the same as saving off a radio. Not illegal yet, but wouldnt stop lawsuits, they can use for anything.
The biggest problem I have with programs, is the way they make you hop all over to input data. If you can just go from input box to input box, flowing continously, then its a good UI design.
Who cares about looks, I care about functionality, well, I guess I do care about looks somewhat, take proxomitron's default colors when it came out, ICK. The user interface is perfect as a program goes.
But back to flow, nothing bothers me more than something taking away attention when you are working, pop up boxes, something that takes focus away from your work. I think this is why so many people like ratpoison, windowmaker, icewm, you can do your work without the distractions.
ok, do I really need Internet explorer to pop up and tell me when my download is finished? When I'm in the middle of typing an email? No. Stay out of the way. Stealing focus, or making a user hop around is biggest problem in UI design IMHO.
In WoW you cant chat between factions, but you can use leet speek using numbers and other non-characters.
Theres a plugin called "Universal Translator" so you can now type/uts Hi and it will translate it into [-]:1 uses ":" for uppercase and "." for lowercase. It also supports morse code.
Not exactly the normal leet speak with letters, but it comes in handy in game.
I've also seen this type of leet speak mix with hex as simple way to send chat in IRC and others wont be able to understand the garbage.
The only one I dont get is "pwned", that just looks stupid.
Governments do not lower taxes once they have established them.
Exactly, my state already one of the highest sales taxes, now wants to establish an Income tax also! WTF are these monkeys thinking?
Average 17-27% of your pay goes towards taxes before you spend your money. Then count in taxes on purchases, services, user fees, state charges, registration costs, required insurances, etc.
Enough money for Internet access and a Beer when done, if lucky.
Oracle tried to charge us a per user license for a EMAIL SERVER. They wanted around a 1.50 per user for a few million users. Crazy...
They didnt want to honor the site license we bought back in the day, after they found what we had in plan.
Licensing gets even worse in corporate companies, after a project is bought and paid for in 1 group, its handed off to another to run, and keep licenses up to date. I've seen the operations group buy licenses they didnt need, and you cant tell them they made a mistake, because its not your department anymore, and your a "Troublemaker"..
Little fiefdoms cost companies millions in license fees, and other expenses. Its amazing how mangelment can spend company money like no tomorrow on big projects without any oversight, tracking.
You think SOX is going to help? Every penny? No, it just tracks money, you can still pay for the same product a dozen times to a vendor.
I will say Oracle wasnt the worst license, but it ranks up there..
Our smaller servers use mysql now, lucky they proven themselves so we can try to use it in larger production boxes. Same with redhat, get in the door, then prove it can handle some tasks..
One thing though, in a major oracle outage, oracle will be on the phone and have a group of people willing to fix the problem, the support has been great. But thats a support contract, not a license.
Google has a website with banner ads, same as TV Commericals or Magazines. Copyright owners shouldnt be able to dictate where ads should be placed on a website.
The ads are in a box, saying "Sponsered Link", search links are below.
Whats next, people suing if they dont appear first in "I feel lucky" searchs?
Thank god for my tivo, too bad they keep canceling the shows I want to record...
Sometimes I wish I was joe-six pack and who wants be a millionaire and survivor made me happy, but no, I have to like Sci-Fi and tech shows....
At least there are tv channels dedictated to golf, cars and knitting. Wheres my Tech news?! Wheres my 24/7 of sci-fi -minus the anime, put that on its own channel... Theres so much anime right now, you could make 20 channels from stuff form China and Japan.
2.5 million people watched it, well duh, the same time Stargate SG1 is on. 2 SCI-Fi shows on at the same time, and the other has been on longer and has a stronger audience.
They fucking killed it by putting it on at the same time.
Why are these posts insightful ever time? The show started out ok, got worse with the time crap, and is now back to good episodes. New directors and writers help.
While the show started out as poor, its gotten better and it now upto TNG in quality. The problem they have, is some people tuned out, and lost viewers.
Instead of working on it, and keeping the show going, they cancel. Where are the 2 hour specials to bring back viewers? They havnt tried shit, other than canceling. The whole idea of a gritter time is great, thats what made Firefly kick ass.
Really tired of all the networks canceling shows and putting reality crap, or fucking with good content. SciFi at least has Stargate and Atlantis. G4 fucked over TechTV, its a poor shell of the show it once was. B5 had many spinoffs, and possible
Last week episode showed how much the show improved. The plot worked, good inship fighting, little drama, and a few ship battles. Everything you want in a good episode.
So before all the posts "Its Crap, Let it DIE", are wrong, its a good now, now that the time war crap is over. I wish they would shoot the writers who are ruining such a good series.

I've been wanting to buy a PPC board for awhile, the problem boards where expensive. Now that systems are cheap with upgradeable CPU slots, I've tempted to pick one up. Ultraspec.us has a systems for 1495, and it runs MorphOS, Amiga OS4, all the PPC versions of Linux and BSD. I hear there are cracks for OSX, but I cant seem to find any proof. There is MacOnLinux which runs OSX under Linux but I found it slow on my dual g4, but useable. There is also a dual G4 cpu card for the board, I've seen on the MorphOS website in development. So a nice upgrade later.
MorphOS looks rather nice, my friends who seen the demo in Germany says it boots in seconds, and multitasks quicker than anything they have seen. Made to run in 128megs of ram, its very stable and quick OS. But it looks like most applications are GNU Applications converted and Amiga applications for PPC recompiled. But since most people are using Linux and GNU applications, or OSX and GNU Applications, its might make a better desktop workstation than KDE. (Hint, someone do an article!)
There are some desktop screenshots of MorphOS at Morphzone.org which shows some eye-candy.
Having used an Amiga, (which the networking started my migration onto linux by way of amitcp and sockets...) I'd like to see what the current status of the whole PPC desktop scene is like. A few friends who got Pegasos boards love it, even the early g3 boards are stable and great little development boxes. Some people still love CygnusEd for coding. (Some moved to Emacs, but I forgive them...)
Good to see Gentoo on the PPC front supporting the pegasos board. I wonder what Gentoo does beyond bring the Gentoo base to PPC, do they have developers working on PPC specifics drivers, etc? More detail than just taking the linux PPC kernel and add Gentoo's features and package support.

Thats the point what people are saying, blizzard is playing both sides of the fence, they want you to play but not think outside of their box. But they dont mention what their box is.
Hunters pulling is their main skill, now when everyone is using it, blizzard tells them not to use it on linked mobs. Problem is, they forgot to link mobs in all instances!
Warriors are having issues as they have been nerfed and cant fight paladins 10 levels beneath them.
Then there is issues with the game being stable, people dropping, respawn rates, scripts for bosses not working, massive server lag with more than 30 people... The list goes on with problems and bugs in game. While this is expected, the total lack of response is to in game TT's have made people upset.
So, while people are starting to enter 50's and some 60's, you have to raid group just to finish the last games, which cant be done.
If nothing changes, 1/4th of the subscribers will leave in 2-3 months, Blizzard is aware of this and working their ass off to finish the big servers and code needed for Battlegrounds.
Talk about churn, there are a dozen MMOPGS's out, and blizzard could loose tens of thousands to them.
EULA's have been proven to be invalid after you pay for a product. Now since most people bought the game, pre-payed by Credit card, then got the EULA, there are some real legal questions about this type of EULA.
Now, the EULA also doesnt cover your legal rights, you dont give them away with the EULA, you never loose your legal rights on an EULA, its not the same as a standard contract, no matter what the slashdot lawyers say.
And by the way contracts can be challanged and overturned on wording or lack of wording, or intent. Anyone who says contracts are binding, dont have the legal muscle normally to fight one.
Now, No where in the EULA does it say you must stop playing the game if Blizzard asks, it does say they can change the EULA at any time, so they could add that at a later time.
If 200 people want to protest, it only takes 5 to start the class action lawsuit. Yes, its over the top for a game, but when you start banning people and still charging their credit cards, you enter some very murky legal problems, not providing service after payment.
I'm sure a good set of lawyers for the tabacco company could keep blizzard in court for years...;)
Law is blind, the best lawyers win, the law doesnt.
You are correct, never pay yearly, NEVER. I've worked at ISP's that do this to keep afloat. (cet.com) ahem...
The most you should ever pay is first/last, and no setup fee for webhost. And if co-locating a server, look at normal prices, ive seen anywhere from 99 on up. Be careful.
I should also mention, the other one I was thinking of going with after some research was Dotster.com they had good packages, and did mention CMS support which I use. But they had a little less disk space. They appear to be one of the largest registar's also in a few surveys ive seen.

Gamespy has more money for lawyers, so Yahoo wont sue them until they have a small legal victory to help fight gamespy.
They wont win, and hopefully xfire can sue yahoo for legal expenses.

Star Trek has sucked for years. I've got higher hopes for the latest attempt to resurrect Doctor Who than for that sinking franchise
Stop with the +Insightful posts, many people like the Enterprise tv show. 2.5 million people watched it the same time Stargate SG1 was on.
They are trying to kill Enterprise by putting it on at friday night, it cant win in that timeslot.
I'm just reposting my article, since people modded it up and down, up and down, so really, more people are watching it than you give credit..
