Which funny started out as Merge on SCO Unix, allowed people to run Windows and SCO Unix at the same time.
We have Win4Lin and VMWARE that allows you to run any Windows, but you still need a licensed copy, WINE doesn't. Not sure how Project David would get around not having a licensed copy of windows or using windows.dll's.
Wierd they are demo'ing the product when the development website says its still being designed.
Thats exactly what scares me, legal mp3 streams via net radio will be killed, as all mp3s on legal streams. I bet it allows MS Media format, how monopolistic of them.
Just packet filtering won't stop P2P, unless is stop's known ports. It will hurt the legal services, what a waste of money.
I'm hoping with the free release of Tribes1 and Tribes2, tribes1 will have more tribes1 servers online. I checked a few days ago, and there was only 5 normal Base servers with players, and 1 was password protected (But full 32 players). Tribes1 is mostly mods now, Renegade, Ultra, etc. Super weapons like mechs. Tribes2 at least has bots so you can always play on downloadable maps. And the Bots are rather good at Rabbit on higher levels.
Tribes3 (Vengence) should be pretty impressive using the Unreal2K(4?) engine.
So, now that the games are free, will we see an emergence of new servers and players? If you run a lan party, make it a tribes lan party, share the game. (Legally!)
This is the first mistake, you asked for a specialist first. You always go to your general practice HMO and have them check you out, and have them refer you. Then your insurance company must allow you to visit a specialist.
Insurance will deny you if you ask directly, most of the time. This is why if your doctor recommends an elected procedure is required, you can have your insurance company cover it.
Its easier to pay for a quick docter's office visit, then paying full price for a specialist and going through all the hoops. (IMHO)
is this the test of GPL in the courts everyone has been waiting for?
I dont understand why everyone thinks the GPL isnt valid until it wins a court case. License agreements are common practice, and so is copyright law. The GPL has much research and thought put into it, it was doodled on a baroom napkin.
IANAL, but I dont see how the GPL could be invalid.
Ok, looks like I can upgrade my account to Silver or Gold and get the PowerPack and extra Bonus CD's. Still feel a little squeezed, but I do like the distro.
I downloaded the Debian SID DVD and Boot ISO, both wouldnt install on my system, due to driver issues. Mandrake 10 community saw my IDE controller and installed.
Not everyone has the same issues on the same distro on the same hardware. I still cant get KDE to compile on my test Gentoo box. Fedora has issues with my USB mouse. Mandrake 10 community doesnt have kernel src to compile new drivers.
I like to try a distro before I believe someone elses rants/raves. Mandrake and SuSE would be my top 2 pics for out of the box install with newer applications.
I just signed up for the Standard plan. Now I find out, even though I'm a mandrake club member, I can't download some ISO's. Only Silver and higher can. And the ISO's I get are the public release version. How freaking ABSURD!
I'm calling my credit card and reversing the charges.
The torrent files are ready, silver members and above may download the 3 first ISOs of the PowerPack (PWP) of that release (+ 2 CDs Bonus), standard members may get the 100% GPL 3 ISOs of the download (DLD) edition (+ 1 CD Bonus). Members with a Gold membership will get the 3 PowerPack+ ISOs and 4 CDs bonus. Corporate members will also get the DVD ISO of the PowerPack+.
Too expensive just for backup. DVD's are down to 50 cents, and dual layer 9 gig burners will be out soon. For backup, DVD's are cheaper, and I can read them back on any DVD reader.
And if I want to move files, 160gig firewire/usb2 maxtor onetouch for 180 at costco, pick up 2 of these for the price of an Iomega with 1 35gig drive. (And faster too)
But, I'm sure people will buy it, it is a USB-HD, so you can boot off it, and it comes with ghost, so you can restore a system. It could be handy. Little expensive.
I hope the number of "Basic" unmodified tribes 1 servers go up. Unmodified servers up this weekened was at 5, and 2 where password protected (but almost full, damn i need that password) Mod'ed was over 500.
Some people like playing Tribes mods where the weapons are insanely deadly, rockets, vulcan's, modified sniper rifles. Theres even a RPG mod for tribes.
One thing I really liked in tribes was sound packs, was kinda cool to have real sound clips from movies/music in game. I took every sound pack I could get and put them into one, Called it the Total Sound pack, was over 600 megs. Though I didn't have all the sounds mapped to a menu command, I could at least hear them if someone played them. My very short stint into scripting/modding.
BTW, I have signed Tribes1 and Tribes2 boxes on my desk, with a little Tribescon 2000 winner logo, and tribe pocketwatch. Made it to the first 3 Tribescon's, now those are some lan parties, met the developers, and won some prizes.
Started tribes on a Dual Voodoo2 SLI system. Glide baby!
I finally broke down and paid for File Planet, what good is a 1500 DSL if you can't max it out? On Fileplanet, I always find the files I want, and I dont wait in line. Also bad side effect, people ask me to grab them files off fileplanet.
Serriously, You bitch about Fileplanet, when Fileshack, and everyone else is also charging. Fileplanet was just first to charge. Its getting harder to find downloads of large files in the US.
Now, if they would also off torrents for the larger files for free, that would be impressive.
Tribes 1 borrowed a modified Red Baron engine. Tribes 2 uses Torque (Which is actually nice with current hardware) Tribes Vengeance uses the Unreal200X engine.
I played Tribes1 for 3 years, moving back to CS after the bad launch of Tribes2. Now with current hardware and patches, Tribes 2 is very enjoyable. Actually run the engine with all settings on max, and still nice. Of course, I still like Tribes1 with Anti-alias'ing, still a fun game.
I think Microsoft already saw the writing on the wall, they are moving towards home appliances and entertainment. They are moving into music, video and games. HDTV will have Microsoft media format for recordings, Music will be some DRM'ed version, and video games are out in the form of the Xbox. There already into PDA's, Phones, and Tivo clones. Microsoft will be around in all forms of entertainment. The OS market is dead, its time to move towards the bigger, larger honey pots.
As for software, besides the XP OS so I can run video games, all most applications are open source or free. Mozilla, Thunderbird, putty, Winamp (free version), Open office, cygwin, opengaim, windows player classic. iTunes, PowerDVD and Nero are pay, but they could move to Linux easily enough.
Besides free software for PC, everything else costs for most entertainment. Xbox games, HDTV DVDs, DRM'ed CDs, whatever. Microsoft will be a monopoly in other markets.
It would certainly piss me off if some guy was speeding ahead of me and caused the light ahead of us to turn red, stopping both of us. Its the first day of spring, California law, you must have your handgun with you for times like this.
If you are doing the speed limit, the yellow light should have time to give the driver the second needed to decide to stop or go through the light.
Most the time you run a red light, the light turns yellow after breaking distance, you have a choice, you lock up your tires, or go through.
There was a study that shorting the yellow light increased rear end collisions. (And makes more money for automatic picture tickets) Of course if you increase the time on a yellow light, it gives people a chance to slow down, and clear the intersection.
Seems like a good idea to me if they keep the timing down, the only thing is rush hour traffic needs to be timed, one joker could slow down the entire commute home.
The bill would exclude from this definition any game in which the visual depiction of violence occurs as the result of simultaneous competition between 2 or more players.
I bet this is to exclude sports games.

Lao-tzu (604 BC - 531 BC), The Way of Lao-tzu)
Either way, Nguyen, father of a 2-year-old girl, and his co-workers spend their days scouring the Internet for the most obscene material, following leads sent in by citizens and tracking pornographers operating under different names. The job wears on them all, day after day, so much so that the obscenity division has recently set up in-house counseling for them to talk about what they're seeing and how it is affecting them.
Time to call Childrens Services, Nyuyen surfs porn all day, he must be an unfit parent. Take his child away.
The knife cuts both ways, go after the puppets in government with the same tactics. This is why you triple check your IRS reportings, and make sure that girl you making home sex tapes is over 18.
The right wing controlled Government will go after you with all its powers, and any little law can be used against you. Fight back with the legal system, they will use it against you. (A man sued a judge in montana, the judge classified him as a terrorist.) (A gay couple has to fight all the way to the supreme court to fight for their right to be gay. You can thank Texas.)
The legal system is neither just nor fair. The hardcore religious faction is on par with the Taliban, they just use the courts instead of violence. The voilence comes after you loose in court, while you are being handcuffed and thrown in a cell.
So remember folks, BUSH is pulling the FBI off terrorism to fight PORN. PORN didnt bomb the trade towers on 911.
Don't forget to google for Similar pages, if you migrated to PC after the Apple/C64 classic modem BBS'ing, you can find all the Ansi Door games of the past. BTW, you can run door games under linux with dosemu and Linux BBS software for those broadband Tradewar junkies.
Back in the day for storage on the C64, major C64 BBS's ran SFD 1001 drives a 1 meg floppy drive. SFD stands for Super Floppy Drive. Before HD adapters came along, chain's of floppy drives where common on most BBS's. And really on the C64, 4 megs of diskspace was alot.
Heres something that might give you a c64 flash back.
GOOGOOACKACKBADBAD Punter:) Xmodem-1K and Ymodem-1K 300 Baud modems you pluged your sound into. Ok, I should stop now before I go on about moving to PC playing Tradewars on WWIV BBS's and Galaciticom (Before they turned into ISP software.)
The BBS scene has turned into the IRC scene, now it seems to be the IM scene. Blogs are there too, but I was blogging before it was blogs, so Im blogged out. (Or is Slashdot a BLOG?)
I just went to Real's site to see if they had kept it hidden there, and I'm surprised to say it's not hard to find at all.
Not bad, many many years later you can finally get to it in 2 clicks, and they still want to use a crappy web installer.
Sorry Real, too little too late. Real treated the customers like crap. Spam, Popup ads, couldnt find the link to download, application took over your system, file assocications, and the list goes on.
But the real reason is they got free hosting from Real.
And they even offered to serve the audio for free online, which defrays an expense we'd otherwise have to cover.
We're in no position to ever turn down generosity, no matter how misguided. So, we took them up on their offer, before they could reconsider.
Also they mentioned the "Hidden" free player problem. I mentioned it awhile back on slashdot but the trolls came out and said "Its right there!!!" Well, looks even Real admited the free version was hard to find.;)
On the issue of the "hidden" free player, they've agreed to provide a direct link from Car Talk to a clear, uncluttered, free player download page. On the issue of pop ups, they tell us they're gone.

Then, am I dreaming or what? I installed the kernel-source package easily, using urpmi
The SRC doesnt come on the Install CDs, and the some public mirrors didnt have the SRC online last week due to a naming problem with the DEV releases.
You do have to reconfigure urpmi source to a mirror with the updated src.
URPMI works great, if the mirror is up. (-;
