    Actually, for a while, the Marines had a custom version of Doom [army.mil] for training purposes!

    I wonder if a team of Marines playing RTCW, MOHAA, Ghost Recon or CS would kick ass against us noncombatants.

    Will Microsoft even allow you to recycle your Win2k license on a new computer?

    This really pisses me off. This should of been part of the settlement from the DOJ. M$ Screwed Consumers.

    The OEMS had to accept the M$ price discount plan, and only sell OEM versions to stay in business. M$ should of never been allowed to tie an OS to hardware, too late, damage done.

    We had a site license for m$ at work. We bought 40 pc's and could not get them without windows. We just paid for an OS which we would never use, and couldnt sell. What about all the schools across America that got double billed for an OS? Thats alot of tax money M$ should pay back. I wont even go into the tax scam m$ has, they do not pay federal income tax.

    If I was going to roll out desktops.
    1. Terminal Services/Citrix/etc... Will NEVER tie M$ into hardware, repeat never, rinse repeat, never.
    2. Linux workstations.
    3. Fast network, with gigabit upstream to the TS servers.
    4. Ghost images on CD.

    BTW, 400mhz boxes make good linux workstations.

    8. Please upgrade your product support to super duper gold plus, with cherries on top.
    9. Our product is not ment to be used that way.
    10. Tech on Call (Sorry, im out dinner, it will take me an hour to get to a computer..)
    11. You can only use product X with our product Z, but we will gladly port it for the cost of your first born child.
    12. Honest, this will do exactly what you want!

    Kinda neat, but its a P233 pc. Really the only cool thing is the led display. I have an old IBM thermal printer that uses fax paper also, used it on my c64. Now put linux on a c64 (load "linux",8,1) and I will be impressed.

    Mod this up, dont every buy the bull "Drivers will mature".

    Learn from past mistakes, even if the hardware is good, they write bad drivers, bad software, and they lie about benchmarks.

    Im sticking with Nvidia, and My version 2880 linux nvidia drivers rock my linux world.

    Ok, whats modified? Wheres the changelog? Is Andre's VM not included in 2.4.18?

    Currently I am using 2.4.19-pre7 with preempt-kernel-rml-2.4.19-pre7-1.patch. Im very happy, stable as hell, smooth desktop now. Really would like to know what Suse has modified.

    I think the 4th admendment says it all.

    The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

    Secure - Free from the risk of being intercepted by unauthorized persons.

    There is too much to discuss about this, but it comes down to word "Reasonable". And this changes from person to person.

    You find it "Resonable" to trade Privacy for Security. Patriot ACT on that thought was "Reasonable" to some men and women to combat terrorisism.

    I find that "Unreasonable". The founding fathers had to deal with "Unreasonable" searchs under Kings Law, they would have no such repeat.

    I found vmware 3.0 for 139 bux on the web. And vmware 3.1 is a free upgrade. Win98 runs games fine, came with an older PC. The Game will cost you 50 bux either way. Total cost (not including game) is 139 bux.

    Loki went out of business, not enough demand.

    Vmware runs most things, if it had DirectX support, team this up with a pre-empt/blah new fangled linux kernel, and you dont NEED to port games.

    I bet 5 years from know you will be able to emulate any OS, just run it under linux. So far I have Mac OS 9, VMWare, Amiga, Atari, N64, PS, DreamCast, Mame, C64, etc...

    I like it when a site does a good indepth review, showing screen shots, telling about how many hours of play, replay value (Very important), multiplayer option, what hardware is supported, what gfx resolutions, audio (ex, eax? eax2? directsound, surround sound?), mod support, special features..

    And about 100 things I forgot. Not everyone has 49 bux to drop on the 10 new games that come out each month, some guide helps pick out the good games and dump the crap.

    BTW, power to the reviewers.. Let them get all the goods they can, cheap hookers, booze, whatever. I think I'll notice when all the reviews sites say a game suck, and JoeBlow reviewer says its the greatest game since quake10.

    I dont have a need for rs232 on my workstation, thou I do need it on my ppp/firewall box. The only rs232 connection I had was a modem, and not that I use ethernet no need for it. Plus there are alot of USB modems on the market.

    Easy dont buy this motherboard. This motherboard has most of the stuff a home user would need online. But 3 PCI would be pushing it, but Since my 2 of my 3 PCI cards are Ethernet and Audio (SB Audigy), it does make sense.

    "KEYBOARD AND MOUSE CONVERTER PS2 TO USB" works just fine on KVMs.

    Why not just get a "USB TO SERIAL CONVERTER DB25M", its even supported under linux. I wanted to do this for a bbs, but the price per unit 45 bux was a little expensive.

    This is actually a "GOOD THING" (tm), I'm rather impressed someone in local Government understands that people are moving parts of their lives online. There needs to be some basic protection from companies to mine this data.

    Just think of some of the areas, support groups for rape, drug use, violence, addictions, cancer, etc... Discussion groups, political, sex, food, hobbies, art, cars, investing, etc..

    These laws act like a catalyst. If we make opt-in mandatory, we can push other areas to require opt-in methods. Opt-out is a scam that big companies like AOL and Yahoo love. It takes a couple weeks for your Opt-out to register, while your data is already sold.

    Its bad enough, you can pull most of a persons life from DMV and Credit reports, do we need a persons intimate personal life also?

    Humm, FUD about the USA Law doesnt touch the rest of the world...

    Yes, the USA might not be the rest of the world, but we are a major player. Taiwan and China will put DRM in if its the only way to sell hardware to Americans. Why will they build 2 versions of the hardware, with and without DRM? They wont, its cheaper to build 1 version.

    The world has allot of global players, and they all work with US corporations. Don't kid yourself, what happens to America rubs off on you. Russian citizens being arrested by America, CIA funding the Afghanistan's freedom fighters, FBI installing sniffing software for England, IBM financing Cisco to install logging firewalls for China.

    I just upgraded my DVD-rom just to find out that its RPC-2. They moved the Region code from the OS (RPC-1) to the firmware on the drive. You can only switch it 5 times, then it locks in firmware. No where on the box did it say it was RPC-2, nor is there any requirements for them to do so.

    Maybe DRM is closer than you think.

    Linux running VMware running Win98
    FreeBSD running VMware running WinXP
    WinXP running cygwin with Xfree
    WinXP running VMWare running Linux
    Solaris running citrix clients.
