Who has wsus configured to install every microsoft update? Have the wsus thing download the updates but not push them to clients until someone approves them. Yes it means that some admin will have to actually click on the update and approve it but shouldn't that be part of their job?
I thought the desktop search used a service called "search". Disable that service and the desktop search doesn't run.
I know a lot of people who want a PDA and not a PDA/phone. Some people still want to be able to talk on the phone while looking at their PDA and not have to use speaker phone while doing so.
The problem is not activation, it is the number of time one has to activate the same installation of windows. Changing parts in the computer, should not be a problem. If I remember right microsoft has said a motherboard is a major change and they are allowing a limited number of major changes now. That is total crap. If I bought the retail version I should be able to install it on one machine as many times as I want to. It is not uncommon for people who change hardware in their computer (RAM, video cards, sound cards, network cards, replacing failed hard drive, using newer/faster/bigger hard drives) to reinstall the os from time to time.
This was not a problem in earlier microsoft operating systems, it should not be one now.
But the latest browser is removable. The case is looking at older versions. XP comes withe the older version, Vista doesn't. So if microsoft says this is what we are selling now (Vista with ie7 or ie8 I forget) The AT case built on ie5(ie6?) looses creditability. So as others have said, let this AT case end. Then come up with newer more current charges that microsoft doesn't have a way out of.
Having a different password for computer logon and access would be a better security practice. How many people actually lock their computers when they leave their desk/go home for the night? If the computer is logged in and not locked, then anyone can access everything as the logged in user. And forcing the screen saver to use a password only works so far. After a number of complaints from 'important' people those settings will be turned off. I have people not wanting to wait the 30 seconds-1 minute for the computer to start up (newer machine), so they do not power their machine off even if they are on vacation for two weeks!
Only two? My record was 30. 30 emails for the same thing from 30 different email addresses.
On a side note, what determines spam? To most spam is unwanted email. So if you are getting email from say a class listserv you are taking. Then you do not want those emails anymore what do you do. Report to that listserv to remove you? Or report those emails as spam?
Wasn't the little ice age caused by the fresh water being dumped into the Atlantic when a glacier melted on North America? This stopped the gulf stream current which stopped bringing warm water to the northern hemisphere.
How many home computer users are actually changing the video card in their mac? How many people with an imac, power book, mac mini, macbook, macbook pro actually change the video card? The mac pro (the big tower desktop) is the only model that the video card can be changed. Swapping out motherboard on laptop is not a simple thing to do. And I have not even heard of many people how even changing the mini pci video cards that some laptops have. So complaining about video cards on a mac is kind of pointless.
Are you getting the hardware to run it on for free?
Add in the cost of the rest of the computer (include a monitor/keyboard/mouse for the mini) then see how much it cost you. I have my mini on a KVM and people still say I am doing an injustice to mac by not using an apple monitor, keyboard, and mouse. To each their own I guess.
I do wish that apple legally allowed people to buy their software and run it on their own hardware.
"...By the way, the biggest emitters of methane on Earth are Termites. Are you also anti-termite?"
Yes! Ever have to repair your place if they 'move in'? The little buggers can cost you a lot in repair bills. And this was in a brick house. I hate to see the bill in a wooden house.
Go back further in time (like a few 100 million years) There is a whole lot of life on this planet, no man at all, and the temperature was a lot hotter then it is now. Is everyone forgetting the mini ice age that happened when the great lakes (and what ever that fresh water lake that covered much of Canada back then) finally got to empty into the Atlantic ocean? Greenland was a warmer place then it is now. Then the mini ice age happened. Maybe things are just going back to what they were before the all the fresh water caused the warm ocean current to shut down.
7 meters of sea level rise? Have you ever poured a liquid in to a container? Notice how that liquid evens out throughout the whole container. The same will happen with the water from Greenland and Antarctica. The water from all that ice will spread out across all the oceans. There is a lot of water trapped in that ice now. However there is a lot more water in all the oceans already. And the article you linked to says the glaciers are moving faster. Nothing about a 7 meter rise in sea levels. And don't forget that the ice already floating in the water will not make the sea level rise anymore since it already displaces it's own weight.
If all the ice melts will the sea levels rise? Yes they will. Will they rise 7 meters? No way. 1-2 meters maybe. This is still bad news for all of the coastal cities and people whose homes are alone the coast. Most of the coastal cities are less then 3 meters above sea level.
Do you mean the license plate(s)? Unless the stolen car is the same make/model/year/color as your car when they run the plates the police will know that they are following a different car.
"... The primary rule that I drive by is that there's only one driver. I don't care if it's me, someone else, or the car itself, but if it's me, then no way in hell will I put up with the car trying to guess what I meant. Modern electronics can go f**k themselves until they get to the point that I really *can* put on the cruise control and hop in the back seat for a nap."
Has anyone ever tried forcing people to make longer passwords? I worked for a place that hired a firm to come in to actually test the security of the servers. They setup a box to brute force every user name in the system. Pissed me off that my boss handed them all the user ids in the first place. Anyway, After a week there were 7 accounts that were not hacked. I set the passwords on those accounts. All were over 30 characters in length. The firm's attack system only tried up to 15 characters. maybe making longer more 'complex' passwords can a good thing.
Someone else remembered total recall
Best thing about NCIS is that the guy that plays Tony screwed up and lost Jessica Alba. That fact brings a smile everytime I think about it.
Apple == PC
Apple != Windows
Apple IS a pc (personal computer).

Get the apple, boot off of the OSX cd, use the password reset utility, now that you ARE root you can do what ever you want to that machine.
Having that kind of access with almost any OS means your data is no longer secure.

Kari should pass on this on. send in the other ones, just leave Kari alone. She should be protected.
I always thought ME was 98 version 3? There was 98 and 98 version 2

I thought OO was open source? So if it can save in .doc wouldn't that mean that the version of .doc OO is saving to is documented?

450 C to 480 C degrees is a *bit* warmer? I'd really hate to see what you think of as a lot warmer.

Try/use VLC? So far that has played everything and more then the windows media player.

You want cruise control and an auto pilot.
If that is the case I am learning Chinese ASAP.
