That's why I said "it's the storage that is now the main issue", meaning that we already have plenty of ways to collect energy. This invention is still cool, but any invention for harvesting energy is limited in its usefulness if you have to use all the energy immediately.
Now we need to concentrate more on efficient ways of actually storing it - especially if it's going to be collected in such tiny amounts like this device does.
Yep, it's sometimes surprisingly easy just to forget about all this stuff and get caught up in your life, without thinking about how it's all going to end. Other times it's not so easy. I'm one of those people who are more likely to be depressed, could be just something physical, but perhaps I've just grown accustomed to it. Since I have started to look at things as not being led by God it's easier to feel "I can change this situation/my attitude without the help of any God" rather than "this is how it's meant to be", or "this is a punishment for ignoring God's guidance" and that type of thing.
You obviously haven't driven a recent diesel engined car then - horsepower doesn't mean that much out on real roads. Diesels have amazing torque compared to petrol/gasoline. You run out of revs pretty quickly, but by that time you've already passed the car you were aiming to overtake... there is plenty of power.
Besides, what does it matter if a 2litre turbo petrol car can push more power then a 2litre diesel, when the fuel economy in the diesel is far (far far far) better? In that case you can just increase the displacement of the diesel to be much more than the petrol, and still end up paying the less per mile. The Audi R8 diesel version is faster than the petrol, and gets better mileage. Admittedly it obviously won't sound as nice though, especially when idling:p
Likewise, except I had mine remapped so it should be more like upwards of 160HP (bear in mind that this is at about 4000RPM and you get a better idea of the torque involved), and I am averaging 37mpg despite regularly accelerating like a lunatic:)
Yeah, she eventually moved over here for a few months but then it all ended pretty badly. I'll probably end up repeating the cycle of computer games, online forums, meeting a random person who somehow convinces herself she loves me while apparently the whole time just deluding herself that she's not in fact an asexual freak who wants to spend the rest of her life living alone writing books that she doesn't care if anyone else reason, in a mountain cabin. Resulting in me getting horribly burned. Yes, that would be a fun cycle to repeat.
Thankfully though, there aren't many women on slashdot, and the few that are are so hardcore geeky that they won't want someone who didn't complete his honours year:)
I did 4 years of CS only to spend most of 4th year playing CS, mudding and having a long distance relationship with someone in a different timezone (meaning I only did about 25% of my project, which I could have swapped for a more interesting robotics/AI project, but I didn't think the one student who was assigned to the professor I wanted to study with would swap because the project was so awesome - then he swapped with someone else).
Or, you train yourself to fake the reactions that are caused by lying answers, and do them when getting the control questions at the start. Tightening the anal sphincter is a good one:p Though to be good at that you have to learn to do it without contracting your butt-cheeks at the same time (saw it being discussed on QI, as one of the official answers of course)
Yep, sounds about right. Well, my old denomination was big on Calvinism and predestination, which creates a lot of paradoxes if you believe that you should try your best, but no matter what you do, God knew you'd do it, and was in control. Most people in my denomination would just do everything themselves anyway, which is probably the right attitude, but it's sad to say that God is the one doing everything when in fact it's people.
I once heard someone say that often when you pray for something to happen, you find that you are the one that goes to do it anyway (for example those praying for people in other countries would often decide to become a missionary).
At the moment I think it is all people's doing. If we have complete free will then God's control or knowing what was going to happen has no bearing anyway. If he interfered then there would be no free will.
Meh, it's not worth trying to resolve the two ideas anymore! If God knew exactly what would happen, why bother running the experiment? Especially when it involves sending possible billions of people to hell.
Agreed. I heard a nice quote or small story once about scientists climbing a mountain of discovery, and when they reached the top they found a bunch of religious leaders sitting at the summit. I'd say that not every religion can be right of course (if there is such a thing as being 'right' when it comes to spiritual things..), as some purposely state their religion as "the only way".
As you said in your other post, their writings can have elements of wisdom though. I expect that I'll still enjoy reading Proverbs despite no longer being a Christian. In some ways I suppose you could compare it to Zen type teachings ("do not treat a fool according to his folly", then right after "treat a fool according to his folly", etc).
Well, a lack of oxygen leads to a high as well:p Isn't that how alcohol and other poisons work?
Apart from the breathing, the only other yoga I've done is some stretches at the start of the Choi Kwang Do classes I was doing last year, I do still do the stretches occasionally but I should probably be doing them more often as you say. At the moment I've just been spending time walking around, down by the beach etc, it is also good exercise and just gives time to relax..
As for the quote, I don't think it's out of context that much since it was Jesus who said it to satan (satan asked him to jump off the temple or some other building and see if the angels would catch him);) Though he himself was quoting, so perhaps he was taking it out of context? Hehe.
Well, I've gone my whole life so far believing in spiritual things, it's hard to change just like that. I was having trouble seeing the point in Christian existence, but now I don't even have any beliefs to go on, so I need to find some other reason to live!
You weren't to know I'd done psychology, or that I can be a fairly sceptical person, so I probably shouldn't have said you were being patronising, sorry:p I knew already that memories could be modified by leading questions and such, which amounts to the same as what you are saying. It is interesting. I think it could be partially a coping mechanism in dealing with bad memories, or just that things can be revised in the same way that we can fine tune our learning..
I was mostly just wanting to make a joke about cranking:p but put it another way, solar panels only work during the day, and they're wanting power at night! A battery solves that problem, but car batteries aren't that cheap either.. (unless you get one cheap in a junkyard or a wreck by the side of the road, of course).
Vapours are gas. Not all gases are vapours though.
I did some more research on vapour, and some people agree with your terminology, but I guess we're both 'correct', depending on who you're talking to. http://www.av8n.com/physics/vapor.htm has a decent go at making the distinction. I was willing to admit you're right if I could find proof, but I suppose my favourite part of that page with respect to our debate is:
Fog and clouds are visible but are neither gases nor vapors; they are aerosols, i.e. colloidal suspensions of very fine particles of liquid (or sometimes solid) H2O in the air.
If you also are so fucking stupid as to mess up two distinct states after whatever education you have, etc etc.. *shrug*
Apple's own description is that the patent exists to stop legitimate competition. That just doesn't seem like the original intention of the patent system
Not the whole intention, but surely part of it, otherwise why would it be illegal to copy a patented system within the timelimit of the patent? It was originally to give the inventor time to bring an original product to market without fear of copycats just duplicating the design exactly (though they could try to do the same thing but in a different way).
This doesn't seem particularly original though. We've had pedometers that record stats for decades. Attaching it to a network doesn't make it particularly special. Unfortunately, people always seem to get away with patenting "[existing concept], but on a computar/netwurk!". Imagine someone had patented "board games on a computer" or "multiplayer games across a network". Urgh.
I'd say that was much more like vandalism rather than theft. Submerging someone's house under a mountain of junkmail isn't theft, is it? It may be a real pain in the ass for them to clear a path outside/inside, but it's not theft..
It's not, but it made me start doubting my beliefs because almost every other Christian I know takes genesis fairly literally. Yes, that's stupid, but meh. Doubting one thing properly led me to start doubting other things, or combined with other doubts, and it kind of snowballed. I don't believe there is no being we could describe as a god, but if one did exist then it wouldn't be the Christian god. If the god of the new testament does exist, he in my opinion would be a liar.

You mean you don't torque about it? Har de har har!
Second, how about getting out, going behind a 2009 diesel
WTF, you have a time machine? Who's the President? Does Britney go back to rehab? Is 2009 finally the year of Linux on the desktop?

This is what happens when God plays with lighters after eating mexican food.

Indeed, or that she scanned his brain and found a tumour, but said nothing..!

we take the IP address, get all the information that we need from it...
ie, "We only record the first four bytes of the IP address, then we toss the rest"

It has to appeal to his geek side too though, so I recommend setting up a streaming feed from his webcam capturing all the action..

Yeah, that was a great movie! Just imagine all the stuff they could do if they made some sequels!
Hey, when is that movie Wall-E coming out? The adverts looked pretty interesting, I have to say.
