Beryl is not integrated into Gnome/KDE. And it breaks Gnome themes. Beryl should use Gnome/KDE?XFCE Themes and not it's own.
If you look at the settings manager, There is way to many choices. I turned on one effect and it crashed the system. In the end, it corrupted the partition when I tried to reboot.
And I HAVE USED BERYL. I had to reinstall Ubuntu to get rid of the piece of crap. I don't reinstall it ever again. Settings manager has TO MANY settings. Newbies require less to setup, not more.
If more distros like Mandriva include compositing window managers then Ubuntu is royally boned. And it is time for Gnome and KDE to start including some of Beryl, Compiz or Metisse's features into their window managers.
Did anyone stop and think Google is not interested in being evil like Doubleclick? From the article:
The sale offers Google access to DoubleClick's advertisement software and, more importantly, its relationships with Web publishers, advertisers and advertising agencies.
It also gives Google access to the data that Doubleclick has acquired. Doubleclick will probably be no more and merge into Google's Adsense.
On the other hand, AMD has opened to the door for Intervideo or Cyberlink. Linux users will be forced to buy their software to play HD DVDs on their HTPC systems.
CEO/President is directly or indirectly responsible for employees that the corporation hires. Unless of course one employee went rogue and is defying corporate rules. ie, The corporate charter states that the software it sells must not contain spyware but employee defies it and does it anyways. That is only if the employee is not linked to the ceo in anyway. Witnesses could easily say CEO told the employee to do it. In which case, CEO is responsible.
People are charged with early termination fees because of equipment. Someone has to pay for it and that someone is the customer. And let's not forget the discounts. Those have to be paid for.
I am glad I have had my DSL 7+ years. My DSL Modem is paid for. I got a second modem as backup.
iTunes like service that allows customers to come in, pick the songs they want, and burn the cd in the store. I doubt many non-business minded individuals will get this idea. There is a 'bigger picture' involved with many details to consider.
Perhaps Windows Vista is Microsoft 'new' Windows ME. We all know how well Windows Me did. All I see is a Nice Interface while taking control of the users computer through DRM and so-called security additions.
I vow to let XP be my last. It's Linux onward for me.
The first thing I do on April 1st is visit Google.com. Those people come up with the funniest jokes. Anyone like this years joke? If anyone falls for it. They get a complimentary swirlie on me.
The warranty of the laptop was not void. HP/Compaq simply doesn't have the support for linux. To ensure the item is indeed broken, it has to be tested using steps in a predefined sheet. The sheet doesn't apply to Linux. Therefore the rep was unable to determine what caused the problem and if it really is broken.
She should have just backed up Linux and reinstalled Windows for the support.
This is a good idea but I find open-source software lacking when it comes to their Windows counterparts.
If you compare a open-source software to it's Windows counterpart, you will notice they applications in OSS are downright ugly and lacking many features. For example, AOL and Yahoo Instant Messengers.
It is a hard sell to get a Windows user to give up nice looking applications packed with features for open-source software the lacks a nice ui and many features as their current software. I will never use GAIM because of this.
You are right. People will end up returning it. Thank God that Costco has a very liberal return policy. If it isn't compatible with your old pc hardware, simply return it for full refund.
I have personally vowed to let XP be my last Windows license due to Vista's DRM and TPM control measures.
You missed my point. Apple TV didnt invent anything new. It's just Apple's way of trying to infuse iTunes into the living room. It's too bad iTunes is DRM and the movies sucks for HD.
Netgear just released Digital Entertainer HD EVA8000. It does MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, AVI, WMV, Xvid, YouTube, and PC Tv Tuner with HDMI 1080p. Their previous version is scaled down to just MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, AVI, WMV, and Xvid with component cables.
Apple TV is not inventing anything new but just trying to brand themselves into your living room.
Why do/. people or anyone care about Apple TV? Hauppauge has them beat. Just pick up a MediaMVP (wired or wireless). It even works with Mythtv and runs Linux.
The ONLY reason to use AppleTV is for iTunes movies that were downloaded.
I think Hell just froze over and a pig flew by my window. Why is Microsoft doing this? Perhaps to sponge off OSS developers then turn around and close source it.
The moon is protected by the Earth's magnetosphere. It is in orbit after all.

It is the next step in Linux distro evolution.

Did anyone realize this has "Screw You Linux" written all over it?
Microsoft is trying to cram Vista down the consumers throats. And sales people are lying to consumers to sell desktops and laptops.
Linux is a good alternative but it also lacks severely in a GOOD user-friendly security setup. command-line is NOT by any definition user friendly.
You could say, Both Linux and Windows both have security issues.

It is too bad it does not stand for Safety, Security, Stability, and Spyware-free.

These stores need to adapt or die.
Why did Amazon.com file such a patent? And where does it fit into Amazon.com's current market niche. Their nick is Online Retailer.
