Do you think Photoshop would be one of the most pirated software in existence if they sold it for $60-80 instead of $600? Probably not [...]
There's a double-sided sword here. If they sold Photoshop for, say, $75 then a lot of people who currently pirate Photoshop (going with the argument that they can't afford it) would get the impression that "it's only $75 so Adobe will never notice or care" and use that to justify the piracy. As long as there are people who don't want to shell out money for software, there will be excuses and rationalizations against buying it, no matter the price.
What we should really do is outlaw all campaign contributions and all gifts to elected representatives.
And who do you think will be passing these laws? Unfortunately, I doubt there is a single politician willing to even suggest this law, let alone get it passed.
...don't force me to use it by powering off my computer if I stop for a breather
Easy fix to that: have the device power the monitor. If you get off to take a breather, only your monitor loses power (saving you money in electricity use..).
The biggest problem I have with the tubes analogy is that he doesn't seem to grasp the fact that messages (data) are broken up into packets. Someone's email will not be "queued up" behind someone else's movie download (filling the pipes/tubes? what?).
This reminds me of a similar fact I heard that ants have been found on every island of the world, with no obvious explanation as to how they got there.
Ironically enough, the Captcha image below is for the word "anteater."
Just because it is the default format for Windows importing does not make it good...
A good media player should have support for all major formats. Yes, I consider OGG a 'major' format; even if it is just 1% of the computing community that uses it, 1% of a lot of people is still quite a few.
Let me guess, you are one of the stupid Americans who believed that Iraq was actually located where Australia is, when shown an incorrectly labelled map?
Australia? Well...g'day, mate! Let's put another shrimp on the barbie!
Breaking news! Any password hashing can be broken! Details on the pigeonhole principle at 11.
Never mind the fact that blind people would probably have a field day with this!
Why they didn't make it more integrated is beyond me.
And GTA would be much better if it taught you how to kill people, right?
Video games != real life.
Perhaps you're thinking of KDevelop. Much of the User Manual is missing. Here's an example: http://docs.kde.org/development/en/kdevelop/kdevel op/ui-elements.html
I'll second this; my school is about 10% deaf/hearing-impaired and they almost unanimously use Sidekicks.

Many more instances can be found on Google for other free (in both senses) software sales. eBay also used to be rife with it.
You could say you specialize in Windows security (yeah, yeah, oxymoron and all that), or you're a "Security analyst" or similar.

It does not carry across extensions, but Google Browser Sync is close.
There are huge differences between morality and legality. What is wrong is not always illegal, and what is illegal is not always wrong.

I know that my Palm Tungsten E is no thicker than a pad of paper. It's about the thickness of your average ballpoint pen; how thick is your paper?
The headline would read:
MICROSOFT PROMISES TO RELEASE DVR SOFTWARE FOR XBOX 360 IN 2006
You know, right after WinFS in Vista and Hi-Def compatibilty in the XBOX 360

The article linked in the post mentions nothing of an oboe. They consistently call it Obeo...I think the submitter just read it wrong.

Has the article already been slashdotted? Wow, that's impressive...
