My mother 'rented' a phone from the phone company for years and years, and old rotary phone. It sat in the upstairs, where she very rarely goes (she's kinda old).
The monthly charges on the phone were like $5.00 or something. We took the phone back to the company. Turns out she paid, over like thirty years, like $3000 or something, for a lousy rotary dial phone.
I read a similar story recently, on how to cut down living costs, and this was listed too.
So if you know any old people, check out their phones; you might be doing them a favor.
Okay, so when an earthquake happens in California, which is a normal thing to happen, it's posted on the front page, but when an earthquake shakes the northeast (which hasn't happened since 1983) it's not news? What's up with that?
Frogs only eat moving objects (with very few exceptions). The caffiene is absorbed along with water directly into their bloodstream through their skin. It has a 'double-whammy' effect, affecting not only their nervous system, but it also drys them out.
On the website http://www.takaratoys.co.jp/TF/scf/mega_01.html they attempt to translate the expression "More Than Meets They Eye" From English to Japanese back to English. Check out what it translates to!
I would think leaving one of these cars in a high crime area and waiting for them to get stolen is a noble thing. But it scares me when they begin to make false senario's and they target people who fit the profile of a car thief. It seems to me that they are creating crime with these hypothetical situations, then arresting people for having the potential to do wrong if an impossible situation were to occur. Leaving a locked car to be stolen is perfectly acceptable, but creating a situation that is too good to be true frightens me.
This is an interesting point. But you have to remember the actual market for stolen cars stems from the fact that you must have a place to _take_ said cars (that is, if you're stealing for money instead of kicks).
Those who are stealing for kicks will drive the shit out of the car, tear it up, burn it, and dump it somewhere. Someone stealing it for money has one thought in mind; get the car, dump it off, collect the cash, go to next car.
So, pretty much, we're not going after the innocent with this scenario; we're going after the bad guys, the ones who would have done it anyway. We're just made their 'job' a 'little easier.'
Here at first I thought that IBM was bailing out the hard drive industry, not bailing out of the hard drive industry. I was thinking, "Who'd buy them, considering their track record?"
Speaking of spam, I've come across this new program called mailwasher. You can check your mail while it's still on the server, and then - get this - fake a bounced message. There are probably other programs that do this, but this is the first one I've heard of.
Anyway, AFAIK, it's WinBlows only, and available at http://www.mailwasher.com, although right now it seems the site is down, all I get is a 404!

Other moral: say what you like about fujitsu, but their drives support more hdparm options than any other I've seen, and they don't break when you use them.
I know I'd never say anything bad about the drives. I've got two: an old 1G drive, and a 3.4 that's still the boot drive of my machine. Still lightning fast for it's time, and ultra quiet. And it's been thru more abuse than I care to mention, and it's still going. I'd buy more Fujitsu stuff, but didn't they sell to Maxtor?
In later chapters you get to play little games while the chapter is loading. Chptr 14 you get to beat Jar Jar, another you can shoot Jawas, another you get to blast Tie Fighters.

I remember this as well. In fact, I bookmarked the site the first time around. I double checked the second I saw this article to make sure it was the same site. Sure enough...
It was either on here or on HardOCP, but I just don't remember.

Two words: Matinee Pricing
(typing this (slowly) to fill the lame 20 second rule)

Jack Kirby is DEAD. Therefore, no cameo.
Well, I guess there _could_ have been one, but eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww...
Looks like Ed Norton & Brad Pitt's soap making business is going to go bankrupt.

It went on here for about 60 seconds.
Was anyone else affected by the earthquake that seems to have hit the northeast USA about ten minutes ago?

But I see this as a very good thing.
Now they're disguising ads as articles!
Whoops! Thanks!

No, silly boy, they were simply taking advantage of new technology.
I must say, I think that's totally cool. I can't believe they denied the entry permit, however.
It's a shame they couldn't make a permanant roadway (I know, I know, it's 56 miles, but it'd still be cool.
All I have to do is eat lot of beans. Presto! Self heating can!

I've mirrored the original with a couple of changes Here
It was called 'AirQuake'. It was also written for Quake I as well.
